TripleDoubleScoutParticipantI know everyone is talking about the news about Embiid’s foot, but I feel as if this is an obvious lie to make the bucks pass on embiid so the philly trade will work. The cavs are trying to rebound from the botched smokescreen after the embiid physical news was leaked and it was revealed that embiid checked out fine. Guys, even the wording in the report’s sources had holes. Example: the article says he injured his foot "sometime over the last couple days". Come on y’all. Think about that. His AGENT doesn’t know exactly when his prize client was injured! Yeah right. And then to top it off, this freak injury just happened to occur just before a scheduled workout for…the Milwaukee Bucks. Not buying it, and even if you disagree, you gotta admit that what im saying at least sounds very plausible. Thoughts?

Clean187ParticipantIt is something to be considered. It did cross my mind when Wojo tweeted it was the Cavs medical staff that discovered the injury.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantexactly bro. And think about this: why on freaking earth would his AGENT say something so damaging to his stock and earnings potential in public?

AstroParticipantWhy not just refuse all further workouts and stay quiet if that was the case? The Cavs cleared him already.
This is a major league smokescreen – sometime “within the last couple of days” (umm, during a workout? While walking to 7/11? While surfing the web?) Joel Embiid suffered a “foot injury” which “may or may not be a break” (if not, it may be a stubbed toe, perhaps?)
Sorry, I’m gonna need more deets before I buy into this fish tale.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantIm not saying your wrong but why would they say he is injured? If they don’t want to be drafted by the Bucks, just don’t workout for them..
Is it better to be thought a jerk, for refusing to workout for a particular team, or to be thought of as injury prone because of another injury?? I think for a prospect, it is better to be thought a jerk..

AstroParticipantMaybe they have already colluded with Gilbert to arrange a trade with Philly.
The point is, who cares whether others think he’s injury-prone. He only needs the team he’s going to to know the truth, and then if he stays healthy for 3 years, no-one will give it another thought.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantwell it’s actually not uncommon for teams to draft players that don’t workout for them. I understand your point but that’s the problem with your scenario. Btw let’s say the Bucks figure out this smokescreen. Do they draft a player that would prefer to play elsewhere or grab one the other TWO elite prospects, both of whom by all accounts would have no problem suiting up. Remember, this is considered a strong draft, especially at the top.

AstroParticipantI’m not saying the smokescreen is 100% guaranteed to work. It has a chance of working though (I think Stephon Curry is a good recent example of this.)
And if they draft him, pretend it never happened. It’s not like the Bucks’ organization doesn’t know they’re not exactly the first choice for elite prospects.

Moon RiverParticipantAccording to Woj, the Cavs conducted the medical exam on Embiid and the Bucks did the exam on Parker and they exchanged medical reports. I don’t know the history between the teams, but at this point, not sure I would trust that medical report that came from Cleveland.

hbomb3300ParticipantI’ve had a stress fracture on my foot from basketball and I was able to play awhile with it… it’s possible he got the injury a week or two before the physical and the Cavs were the first to notice it.

mikeyvthedonParticipantAt first, I thought it might be. Now, it seems like he has a fracture in his right foot and will be going in for surgery immediately. Plus, also according to Adrian Wojnarowski, he will not be attending the draft. I know that Cleveland is planning to bring in Dante Exum, though am guessing it is between Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins now. Reports are Wiggins looked good in his workout, guessing Parker will as well. Also going to guess that Embiid slips past Milwaukee and that Philly probably will not want to wait for another rookie to miss a good amount of time.
Could be wrong, though I think with the information that was just presented, this at the very least seems to be a real injury that could have consequences on where Embiid is taken. The recovery time seems to be 6-8 weeks, than probably some more time to work yourself into playing shape. That would mean he could possibly start the season. One thing is for sure, when it comes to 7-footers, foot injuries can be a big concern. Not to mention other questions regarding his durability with the back issues. He is a fantastic prospect and I can’t see him slipping too far, though I do believe these concerns could be quite real. A lot to risk a top 3 pick on when it comes to the teams making the selections.

mikeyvthedonParticipantStatement from Arn Tellem: "Joel Embiid suffered a stress fracture to the navicular bone in his right foot. He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. Joel will be unable to participate in additional workouts, and will not attend the draft in NY"
https://twitter.com/chadfordinsider/status/479703457604333568 https://twitter.com/chadfordinsider/status/479703815139389440
If this is a smokescreen, it is pretty damn elaborate. Why wouldn’t Joel show up to the draft? Apparently, recovery from this can take up to 4 months. Players that had a hard time dealing with this include: Yao Ming and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Again, think this stopped being a smokescreen once the news about surgery popped up. So, while the draft can indeed make one skeptical, seems that this has now gone beyond that point.

Andrew1984ParticipantIt’s not a smoke screen. The dude broke his foot. The Cavs still love him though, and are faced with quite a dilemma. Do you panic and take someone else and then have egg on your face when he recovers and enjoys a successful, healthy career? Or do you take an injured guy two years in a row and allow him to come into camp out of shape like Bennett did?
Conventional wisdom says just take Wiggins! Don’t overthink it. Don’t outsmart yourself.
I am wondering though, if the Cavs are so infatuated with Embiid that they use this as an opportunity to trade down and still get their man, while accumulating another pick in the process. If they can get the No. 10 from Philly, maybe they’ll hope to replace Luol Deng with a three at No. 10 after selecting Embiid at No. 3. McDermott, Saric,…PLEASE don’t say Rodney Hood…

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantum this actually doesn’t change the smokescreen scenario y’all. If you are the cavs/sixers, you HAVE to make Milwaukee believe the report. Case in point: the agent could have simply privately told a team about the foot but instead he just told all 30 teams! There is no reason to do that unless you are trying to engineer something!

He is golfing? The day before a surgery for a fractured foot? What is going on, lol? I guess he hasn’t been following the news on, uh, himself. Still belive it is not a smokescreen. Why fake surgery? If it was a "red flag" type thing, I could believe that being a possible smokescreen. Foot surgery, that justs seems like they would be going WAY too far for whatever they had "planned" to execute. Again, could see believing this when the news dropped, just think the gun was jumped on the whole "conspiracy" angle with this new information.

Ghost01Participant23 points? This thread is the very definition why the thumbs up/thumbs down on this site is moronic.
I thought maybe the whole "Stress fracture" "Will have surgery" thing would temper all smokescreen conspiracies, but apparently not.

Neggedpastorthe things is if he worked out for the cavs and looked good and no red flags were said about his back where did the foot come into play? when they saw his xray was it something that look like it should be fixed before a problem arose?
I don’t think he hurt his self I don’t. I think if anything they saw something in his xray that the already scared doctor wanted to be even more scared about.
I say this again okc doctors red flagged Tyson chandler ,Tyson went on to win a championship the following season playing a big part in the wins and hasn’t had a serious injury yet.who golfs with a broken foot? hours after they know the info was leaked on them via text and social media.
This might be smoke screen Cleveland is the only team to have worked him out and has medical records on him.
sounds so funny to meI didn’t want to accept the theory but im calling it as I see it. it may be a little price fixing of the first pick so a deal can be made and the bucks don’t interfere
