OhCanada-ParticipantLooking at different mock drafts online and even Riley’s community mock draft we made on NBA draft.net the one name I always see at #20 is Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. Now I wouldn’t say he isn’t worthy of the pick yet he is a terrible fit for what Toronto is building.
RHJ is the closest thing in this draft to James Johnson a player that found his place on Casey’s bench due to lack of offensive execution. Johnson is under contract this year.
RHJ is a guy with limited offensive upside due to lack of a jumper. Ujiri usually drafts on upside.
3 out of the last 5 draft picks including the only 3 of those picks still on Toronto’s roster and the only 1st round picks Toronto picked in that time are all players Toronto picked to play along Derozan as SF’s. The other two Quincy Acy now with NY and Tomislav Zubcic last I remember stashed with Cibona were also projected as combo forwards.
If Toronto drafts another player shouldn’t he be able to compliment Daniels and Caboclo instead of clog the depth of their two main non rotation developmental pieces from last year. If they are going to build the D-League team they will need to do that.
Casey likes shooters on his team and needs them to space the floor around Derozan. Jeffersons jump shot is irrelevant.
It just doesn’t make sense to me and even if he gets picked I still won’t understand it unless they make a ton of trades. It is more likely they trade out or pick another position other than SF.
I’d rather see Hernangomez, Anderson, Vaughn, Wood, Martin, Grant, Jones, Hunter, or Rozier picked before RHJ. Even Harrell would be much better.
I’m hoping someone falls to us like Looney, Portis, or Dekker.

TRC1991ParticipantThey need a guy who can stretch the floor to pair with DeRozan and Amir

Mad MaxParticipantI’ve always thought he would be a good fit. Toronto was one the worst defensive teams and they don’t have any good defensive players who can make an impact on that end. RHJ could come in play about 20 mins of lockdown defense which is something Toronto could really use. Especially at 20 that’s good value even for a one way player

mixtape2003ParticipantYea I was wondering why he was in about 80% to 90% of the mocks I’ve seen going to Toronto.

mamadouParticipantLooney will fall to you or you’ll overrate Anderson, don’t worry!
Somebody will be more than happy to draft RHJ, earlier, later.
You could still draft him and trade with the lakers for 27-34, if they’re out of cousins contention.

The_ReversalParticipantI like RHJ as a prospect, but I’d say he’s not really a "great" fit anywhere since he’s a wing player that can’t shoot.
