First off, Jimmer Fredette is projected to go in the 20-25 range in the draft right now, and that is where the Utah Jazz would be drafting at. The only problem with that is Fredette is going to have a great year and shoot up draft boards, but the Jazz could always trade up for him if they really like him.

Second, the Jazz need a back-up point guard badly Ronnie Price is more suited to be a 3rd string point guard. Fredette would be a pefect back-up to D-Will. Also he could play a little shooting guard off the bench and be a shooter just like Eddie House use to.

Lastly, the Jazz would most likely take Fredette if he was available when they pick. He is a local boy since he is going to BYU and he would have no problem playing for the Jazz.

What do some you guys think?

I actually think Fredette can be a good starting PG, but he would be an absolutely elite backup.

He excels in the pick and roll (the staple of Coach Sloan’s offense) so the Jazz wold be a good fit. I wouldn’t be suprised if he was a top 15 pick. He’s my bet to lead the nation in scoring next season, and I think he’ll go about it efficiently, which is always good to scouts. The Jazz, Knicks, Warriors, Magic, or Lakers are all the teams he could stand out on IMO because they all fit the style of play he’s best in.

Eh, I’m not high on Jimmer.

I think he needs to show he could be more of a point guard. Right now: What makes him all that better then Eddie House? I think at the draft next year: He could be a mid 1st rounder but that’s about it in my eyes.

He’s not a pure PG, but he has more PG ability and a better off the dribble game than Eddie House. I don’t like that comparison that much, it gets thrown out there too much. Especially since House has never been the type of pure shot-creator.

house dropped 61 in a colleg game and averaged 23 his senior year when the pac 10 was strong. He created a lot for himself in college. It didnt translate ot the nba much, but he still has one of the quickest triggers and doesnt need much time.

Then what about Carlos Arroyo as a comparison?

House was great in college, but your right, it didn’t translate. Fredette’s ability translate’s to me. He has enough PG ability to run a team and still get his points. House isn’t a PG at all really. Fredette’s ability to play PG will allow him the ability to handle the ball more, and allow his scoring to translate much easier.

He’s a better scorer than Carlos Arroyo IMO…I think he’s similar to Mike Bibby. I’ve compared him to a less talented Stephen Curry before too, but I think calling someone a less talented version of someone defeats the purpose so I’ll scrap that one.

I have seen a lil bit of Fredette and I think he will be a solid back up but with all the great point guard out there and even some guys like Eric Maynor, Sessions, and a few others, he will not get the chance to start because if you say he is starting, you have to realistically be like he will start over this player and have a legit argument and also they have to need a point guard over any other need.
I see him and a 15 – 26 pick guy right now but maybe next year if he can show more point guard skills he can move higher. I will say his playmaking in the two games I have seen him seem below Jameer Nelson but if his offensive game can translate then maybe. I never seen him make a natural point guard move but he make a few plays with the ball in his hand but he was mostly looking to score. I did not get a chance to look at him more so I could be off by some. I doubt he has more playmaking in him then Jarryd Bayless who has yet to show much at the point guard position but can score a lot of points.

House did not look that bad early on in the NBA and he is a solid guy but when you an undersized shooting guard it is hard to get minutes regardless how well you can score. If house was two inches taller than things might be different.

“Eh, I’m not high on Jimmer.

Fredette earned a ton of praise from Team USA for his work on the Select Team. You want to know what he can do better than Eddie House, have the likes of Russell Westbrook and Rajon Rondo pick him up full court and not turn it over. The little matter of being able to get into the paint, having the strength to absorb bumps, and the intelligence to know how to either finish or get the ball to a teammate. How much more praise can he get than to have Frank Martin have his guys face guard him full court and run a second man at him as soon as he crosses half court, and Jimmer still scored 21 points. I think if the old rules applied where players were able to have until mid-June to decide whether to stay in the draft or not, he would have gotten a first round guarantee and gone in the teens. He easily would have gone before Vasquez. He is stronger, better able to get to the line, and a better shooter. Working out for one or two teams more than a month before the draft did not provide the underclassmen with enough time to make an fully informed decision. I can’t think of another returning NCAA point guard I would rather have than him for a college team or in the NBA, so I see no reason he can’t get as high as the lottery.

I just don’t see it. I rather be wrong on this one. I honestly don’t see it. I could see him coming into the NBA and being a solid player but

I feel Lottery picks are picks who should be the best 14. I think the team would matter to me too. If a bad team added him, I would be skeptical of it. If San Antonio or Dallas or Houston ( those teams don’t need a PG but you know what I mean) took him- I think I would buy it more.

Lol, another great post from BTPH.

I agree. The way he played against Kansas State was what was most impressive to me. We threw all kinds of gimmicks at him and he still had a relatively strong game with 21 points. He’s going to be good. I slept terribly on Stephen Curry around 2 years ago, I’m not making that mistake again. Fredette has that same type of feel.
