Niang is a skilled college player, but he lacks positional size and athletic ability, and I mean really lacks. His best NBA skill is his range, but I agree with his omission. He’ll most likely go the free agent route, but he seems more like a Euro player, even in his style.

I’m gunna have to disagree with you. I just read and saw pics to prove that Niang has gotten in much better shape. He said he was playing at almost 255 last year and has dropped 25 pounds. He also looks more defined as well so he isnt just losing weight, he is getting stronger too. He has two years left to get quicker and prove he can be a perimeter player. He keeps getting better as a ballhandler and playmaker and is starting to look like a point forward type of 3/4 with NBA range. He’s going to be the man this year and I wouldnt be surprised to see him put up 20, 5, and 5 and get serious first round looks. I think him getting in better shape is a really big step for him, and I fully expect him to take another big step forward as a player and as a prospect.

Georges getting in shape will certainly help his cause next season and beyond, but he really is a slow player, especially laterally. Maximizing his ability will do him good, but I just don’t buy him as a perimeter player in the NBA. Iowa State plays a small ball uptempo system, and I don’t doubt Niang could put up 20/5/5 for Fred Hoiberg, but pure stat production in a "system" doesn’t always correlate to NBA success.

Again, I think his range is his most NBA ready trait, as is his IQ, but a 6’8” power forward who is an poor rebounder and defender and not particularly athletic is going to prevent him from getting 1st round looks. It’s not out of the realm of possibility he can get drafted in the 2nd round as a senior, and maybe for a club like Phoenix, who likes to run, he could make the roster, but I don’t feel Niang is a no brainer as far as being drafted. 

Length gives him problems, and he’d often work around it by running around on the perimeter when guarded by a slow college big man, but that won’t work in the league where most 5’s are as fast as he is, and most 3’s and 4’s are much faster. Against Baylor, Texas, and Kansas, the biggest teams in the Big 12, his FG% dropped to 41%.

Never say never, but if Niang makes it I think it’s in the vain of a Brian Scalabrine type player who mainly just lumbers around the perimeter and shoots 3’s in garbage time, but has a high enough bball IQ and is a good enough character guy that he has worth to a team during practices. Again, I have no problem with the omission of Georges Niang in the 2016 mock draft. I’m sure he’ll be a 20 point scorer by the time he leaves Ames, and possibly a Big 12 first teamer as soon as next season, but I feel his NBA translatable skills are minimal despite the fact he’ll continue to add to his accomplishments at the NCAA level.

niang measure 6’7", 238lb with a 6’9" wingspan.  to put it in perspective, jordan adams has a longer wingspan.  i think niang has to pull a jae crowder or ryan gomes type transformation to the be a 3rd sf with stretch pf skills to make it into the league.

don’t know too much about the other guy except that he’s a monster (size wise).  in this day and age, i don’t think guys with that size are needed unless they have the athleticism to match.  again, never seen him but at 7’6" 300; i’m assuming he’s a slow plodder with limited post moves that gets by playing in a weak conference and getting alot of offensive putbacks because of his size advantage.

He actually has solid end to end speed, exceptional for his size in fact.  He was incredibly raw last year and only scored about 8 per game.  He got in foul trouble a few times and needs lower body strength.  However, he has a great work ethic and a gregarious personality.  His shotblocking instincts are terrific. He has the potential to lead the country in blocks next year.  Honestly next year is a huge one for him.  If he shows considerable development I’d say he has late first round potential.  If not he’ll be a late second rounder.  But this guy isn’t Sim Bhullar.  He has potential.
