FrozetoesParticipantAt this point you have to wonder how the Lakers are even going to be a competitive team.
All of the impact FA’s are gone and they’ve got nothing, but Kobe and unproven players.
It’s time for Buss and Kupchak to take a long look in the mirror.

dmo21ParticipantIf they want to pick up some guys that are low key that could turn out to be pretty good players while fitting with the rest of the laker players I’d look at Koufus, Gerald Green, and Beasley. All of these guys still have some potential and can increase their numbers.

llperezany free agent signings going forward need to be focused on defense, hustle. Guys like mbah a moute or bigs and stuff. I dont want to see anymore guys like gerald green or beasley who just want to come and get shots up. We already got nick young.

bobbybParticipantI LOVE Mike Beasley. It is like the stock market. You want to buy low. As long as B-Easy hasnt been smokin the krills, he will be a great pickup. Draymond Green and Damare Carroll are suckers buys at 15-20 mill per

llperezthey were patient and went after the big names and lost. They still have lots of youth with julius randle, jordan clarkson, deangelo russle, tarik black, anthony brown, larry nance jr and will give robert upshaw a look in summer league as well. Rest the team consists of robert sacre, ryan kelly and nick young. Add in KObe and thats 11 players. Read today they are talking with koufus. I also would like to see jordan hill come back and get ronnie price back on a minnimum.
This is obviously one of the worst teams in the league, but they have good young pieces and tons of cap space going forward especially once kobe comes off the boards after this year. They are being smart not overpaying for guys that will simply allow them to get to 35 wins instead of 20 wins. They are going the old fashion route of building with youth through the draft while trying to swing for the fences with the elite guys. Its the smartest way to go about things, people just dont epexct to see the lakers build through the daft becasue theyve never had to do it before.

HitsterParticipantMarc Gasol hasn’t offically resigned with Grizzlies but I’m assuming he remains there and LBJ seems a lock to stay in Cleveland. Josh Smith might be worth a look for them perhaps.
The Lakers need to have a good think for if they overpay for way down the FA ratings they use up cap space which could be useful next summer.
The problem is that their pick next year is only top 3 protected and so even if they have a bad season then a very nice pick could fall to Sam Hinkie and Philly. The team could virtually be gambling on the lottery balls to get a shot at Simmons, Brown and co.
If it is Kobe’s last season he may want to go out with a bang and having Randle fit and Russell to come in would point to the Lakers not being as bad as last year.
I’d be interested to know how a team like the Lakers treat FA markets, do they make as many pitches as they can to the top players or do they do a more targeted approach like the Spurs did for Aldridge.
No doubt Lakers will be linked with every top FA next summer but it may take more than a team’s name to lure top FA’s in the post Kobe era. That is not to say the Lakers cannot get back into contention fairly soon, they have some nice young prospects to develop in Randle and Russell and they may want to take a look at how the Spurs and Mavs have both recruited successfully with a legendary player near the end of his career.
A fun idea for the Lakers could be they recruit a load of veterans on one year deals to give the youngsters a lot of experience in the locker room and whatever they do on court is a bonus and the majority of contracts expire next year so their is no major commitment to the cap.

TyroberParticipantI wonder if Kobe is going to demand a trade? Going to be a long ass season for the Lakers.

HitsterParticipantWho would take a guy pushing 37 on $25 million a year although I assume the trade post was slightly tongue in cheek.
If he did legit demand a trade I guess the only takers could be Brooklyn, they’d flip Johnson for him easy enough or maybe the Knicks if Melo still doesn’t fit the triangle and it reunites Phil with Kobe gives Knicks 2016 cap space, Lakers get Melo as their star etc.

What do you want Indy to do with the cap $? They could use a backup PG & some 4 depth

IndianaBasketballParticipantI agree with you. The Pacers need a quality backup point for Hill and more depth at the 4/5. Was just about to look and see who’s still available in free-agency and who’d be good fits.

llperezMakes sense for lakers, desperately needed a big man and defense without commiting long term salary. Hopefully Hubert can have a bounce back season, lakers need all the rim protection they can get since randle isn’t a defensive presence and Kobe and Russell on the wings are going to get beat a lot. I like the move

sheltwon3ParticipantI love what the Lakers are going because next offseason they will have enough to add 2 or 3 top players to a a great bunch of young guys. The Lakers future is brighter than a lot of people want to give them credit for.

IndianaBasketballParticipantHibbert and Kobe will be interesting lol…
Hibbert is still an elite rim protector though. He’s very durable too. Maybe he just needed a change. He lost confidence here in Indy for some reason. IF it doesn’t work, his contract expires after the season.

CoachWyersParticipantI think this is a great move for the Lakers because all they give up is 2nd rounder and they still have cap flexibility next year. I thought going into free agency their two biggest needs were rim protecting Center and a SF so I think pickup is great. The only other rim protecting center I would rather have is Deandre Jordan who they missed out on. Tyson Chandler and Robin Lopez would have been nice, but not at the contracts they got I would rather have Hibbert on the one year.
Even though Lamarcus would have gave the Lakers a star I never liked the fit because Lamarcus didn’t want to play C at all and the Lakers should be developing Randle, Clarkson, and Russell, which means Lamarcus and Randle were going to have to play a lot together and out of those two Lamarcus would have been the one playing center.
Now if the Lakers can land KJ McDaniels he would be another nice young piece to add to the other three guys. Won’t make them great right away, but if all the youngsters develop and pan out they have a nice future and the money to add 3 max players around them or a lot of nice pieces.

King CaluchaParticipantThis season hasn’t started and it’s already wasted. They should look for 1+1 (team option) contracts for high risk/high reward players like McGee. Looking for mediocre established players is only going to make things worse.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHibbert will slow them down and clog up the middle.
i think they need to go small.
3 guard lineup or Clarkson, Russell, Kobe, Randle, and an athletic center. Javale McGee would be worth a shot. You are right King Calucha. Jerome Jordan is cheap, long, and fairly athletic. Hasheem Thabeet could be a decent reclamation project.
Well, at least LA had MLB and hockey.
