d-grizzlyParticipantmany players have the potential to have a strong breakout season..and many other players have the possibility of disapointing us all. Take 1 player who you think will breakout, and 1 player who may disapoint you this upcoming year…and explain why.
Breakout Player – Anthony Randolph. He’ll live up to the hype. He showed some a lot of it in the summer league ( yes it’s still summer league). He’s gonna find ways to score with his size. The nice thing is he’s on a team with ellis, curry, biedrins and jackson. With a breakout season from this kid, i think GS could make the playoffs if lack of consistency and health issues don’t get in the way of the team.
Disapointing Player – Kevin Martin. the second disapointing season in a row…to me. Easy on the hate on me…i’m not a hater on this guy. I am disapointed on how he has turned out. I can go back to his memorable lay up against san antonio in the playoffs back when artest had just joined the kings and adelman had the job still. Since then, he’s averaged over 20ppg each season. let’s get real though…a scorer should never get all star recognition…and that’s all kevin has shown. he can’t rebound, he can’t defend, he can’t dish the ball and he’s turnover prone. I see another 20+ppg season for 40-60 games…and not contributing in any way other than points…. it just won’t be enough to help the kings win more. this kid has to show us he can do something other than find a way to score….before we dare give him all star consideration again.

MallStax5Participantpeople are going to start to relize how special Danny Granger can be i think him and Rudy Gay are going to have all star caliber season along with Kevin Martin..
please gizzly dont hate on kevin. you will see he is real good
last time i checkd rashard lewis was just a three point shooter and he made the all star team0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:31am #191144

d-grizzlyParticipanthe can rebound…and he can defend….and he hits clutch shots also… you can’t compare kevin martin to him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:33am #191148

R-Dot-13ParticipantDanny Granger had a breakout season last year and will only get better, but i think his teammate, TJ Ford is ready for his breakout season.
TJ has had some good years in the league, and was a key part of when the raptors were the 3rd seed in the east one year. Now, i think he will have his best year of his career this year, and have an all-star caliber season. He is a good passer, and will be able to feed Granger the ball for his points, and Ford will be able to score aswell. I predict something like 15-16 ppg, 7-9 apg for Ford this year. He can also play good D and is one of the fastest in the league.

knicksfreakParticipantDanilo Gallinari is poised to bank major minutes this year in the absence of Quentin Richardson. He will supposedly have all of his medical issues resolved come season time. He is the best 3-point shooter on the Knicks squad an will get plenty of looks in this go-for-broke season the Knicks have planned since they have no 1st rounder next season.
I think Rudy gay will have a drop-off when it comes to his stats next season. Mayo plays alot with the ball in his hands and the Grizz have added a ball-hog in Zach Randolph. Gay will get less touches and possibly even take a step back next season.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:38am #191157

JNixonParticipantI think you guys should watch out for Nick Young. He will break out this season.
I think Trevor Ariza will be a COLOSSAL dissapointment, he will prove to be vastly overpaid and not a good offensive player with his poor ability to create his own shots.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:39am #191159

d-grizzlyParticipantgood predictions
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:39am #191160

Pierre JordanParticipantSoooo…. Michael Redd should’ve never been an allstar?
Breakout Players- Anthony Randolph, Charlie V, Monta Ellis (again), Louis Williams
Biggest Disappointments- TREVOR ARIZA, Greg Oden, Paul Milsap
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:40am #191165

d-grizzlyParticipantthere you go comparing martin and redd again….
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:41am #191167

knicksfreakParticipantI think Nick Young will have trouble logging minutes, especially with the acquisitions of Miller and Foye. He has great talent but is stuck in a log jam at the 2. Washington is giving it everything they have this year to make a strong playoff push so I doubt they will send playing time trying to develop Young this season.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:46am #191172
MallStax5Participantwhat are yu sayn? redd cant defend either??? he is slow on his feet and Lewis isnt bruce bown either???
kevin martin can only score ok and?
he is still young and he is playing out in sac town…not much help there.one hting that ill give yu is that he is injury prone
and yea ariza was VASTLY overpaid i cant beleve he got the same amount of money as artest
i have a problem with gms giving out mega bucks for players who came alive in the postseason..
just look at jerome james.
need i say more?0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:49am #191177

JoeWolf1Breakouts – I think Greg Oden is going to have his coming out party this year, with a shaky rookie year under his belt, which was disappointing yet he still managed 9 and 7, He is coming in healthy and in good shape with improved fundamentals, and Andre Miller running the show instead of Steve Blake, His numbers may not be huge still, but i think he will prove this year he is deserving of the #1 pick in 07′
Disappointments – Shaq, I know a 37 year old dude is an easy pick for a disappointment, but its more the whole scenario, Shaq i think is hurt for a lot of the season, and Lebron is stuck with Big Z for yet another playoff run
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:50am #191179

d-grizzlyParticipantare you defending kevin? i like the kings…i think they wasted money on kevin. 5 years, 50 million contract for a guy who can only shoot. i stand right about this kid until he shows us anything else besides 24ppg for 40-50 games a year.
atleast lewis lived up to his 6/120 contract…..you can’t say the guy doesn’t defend or rebound.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:51am #191181

Pierre JordanParticipantBecause there’s not much of a difference. People said/say the same thing about Redd, but he’s a great player who never really had a good team. Martin has no help on D, and ZERO help from the point spot.
When a man beats you off the dribble, there should be help coming over… how intimidating are Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes? Trust me if he had a Marcus Camby in the paint, he’d look much better on D.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:53am #191185

Pierre JordanParticipantOh and BTW, Martin gets to the line with the best of them. Have you ever watched more than one Kings game?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:55am #191188

auberParticipantHands down Louis Williams. Dude put up 250+ 3pters last year and will only improve on his field goal percentages. Guys got game and with Andre Miller on the Out Louis Williams will show Philly fans how much of a mistake it was to draft Jrue Holiday.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:56am #191191
MallStax5Participantdefending Kevin and Pierre
like put it this why Grizzly.
if yu gm of a STRUGGLING TEAM and you had a chance to lock up your best player/scorerand he is the only thing keeping yu from 10-72? why not do it?
you have to !
he is like it or not top 5 best scoring wings in that division…kobe
Baron
KEVIN
Monta/Jackson
Artest0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:57am #191193

d-grizzlyParticipantthat was a pretty stupid question to ask. have you ever watch more than one kings game? get f**kin real dude. my family are diehard king fans. i watch king games whenever and i’m biased towards the grizzlies. kevin martin is worthless for the money he gets…and until he shows he can do something else other than score..he should receive no allstar recognition.
btw, there’s a huge difference between hawes/thompson and camby…try like 10+ years of age and experience…have you ever watched a kings game?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:57am #191194

Toronto16ParticipantGood seasons: Anthony Randolph, Andrea Bargnani, Greg Oden, Lou Williams
Disappointments: Rudy Gay, Dantay Jones, Allen Iverson
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 8:58am #191195
MallStax5ParticipantYES WE FINALLY AGREE ON SOMETHING LOL!
yes it was a mistake to get holiday
they should have dfated a more nba ready pg than holiday.
alaTeague
Maynor
even Collison
would have been better choices!
thank you auber lolol0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:00am #191199
MallStax5ParticipantBEN GORDON GOT A 5 YEAR 58 MILLION DOLLER DEAL
from the pistons…
mmhmmm i thin khe can only shoot and nothing else!
right or wrong?0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:02am #191202

d-grizzlyParticipantgordon makes an effort on d..while it may not look like a lot…when’s the last time you’ve seen kevin actually try real hard on defense?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:03am #191204

d-grizzlyParticipantfor example, he had to defend allen in the first round. bg was fouling constantly…aka..effort.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:06am #191206
MallStax5Participantdoesnt mean you try hard.
you ever consider he got beaten on the play then he had to foul?
then then
how many times did ray hit clutch 3s cause ben couldnt get around screens leaving Ray wide open??and and on top of that.
its real disrespectful for you to call out
kevin Martin’s heart like that.
all im sayn is you cant say whether a guy is tryn hard or not you dont kno what is in him you kno what im sayn?0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:09am #191209

d-grizzlyParticipanti don’t know him. but for the seasons i’ve been watching the kings…this is the most awful overhyped player i’ve seen. he really does have to show other than scoring to be given all star recognition.
it’s obvious the kings are in rebuilding mode, so i would expect to see kevin take an early exit again this year….around game 50-60. he’s injury prone…and i wish he’d do more for the kings. see, i like the kings…but i will call a player out.
i’m biased towards the grizzlies…but i’m extremely p!ssed off at rudy for taking last season off.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:09am #191210

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantMostly some notable players that are in their contract years will have a big year. Disappointing ones are usually the ones just signed big contract deals that is worth the skill level the player have.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:15am #191213
ckowalskiParticipantBesides the game where Allen had 51 he shot pretty bad that whole playoff series. And I think that same game Gordon had 40 some points anyway. I don’t think Gordon is a great defender but that’s a poor argument if you are using the Bulls Celtics series as proof.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:25am #191219
nateoak10Participantif ellis breaks out again it will be his 3rd time! he went from getting MIP as a 6th man, to proving he is a great starter, to maybe becoming a star
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:26am #191220
bluedevils12Participantbut d grizzly wat u said about a guy hacking and geting in foul trouble. it doesnt mean he was trying to play defense.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:33am #191229

d-grizzlyParticipantthen what was he trying to play if he was hacking ?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 9:38am #191234

d-grizzlyParticipanti think it’s safe to say there’s a distinct difference between km and bg/mr. the commons of km and mr, they both can score and are injury prone.
the commons of km and bg, they both can score. i think overall, bg and mr defend better.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 11:59am #191322

Tobe BryantParticipantBreakouts: Odom, Randolph, Mayo, Gay, Morrow, Joe Johnson
DISSAPOINTMENTS: ARIZA
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:14pm #191330

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantYou never know, Ariza could have a breakout year since the team will need him to score.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:20pm #191335

JNixonParticipantTrevor Ariza CANT score, unless he has someone to get him open shots or set him up for cuts to the basket. He will be forced to be the 2nd option, when he’s truly a 5th option offensively. Recipe for disaster.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:29pm #191339

morgatilParticipantDude got snubbed for team U.S.A. in Vegas…. pretty sure he is going to play with a huge chip on his shoulder this year.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 1:27pm #191377

Bryant24ParticipantI think Rudy Gay will have a breakout season him and oj are good but oj shoots to much i think rudy gay will average like 25 before oj came he average 21 but when oj he came he average 19.
Disapointing Player i got to go with Greg Oden he aint prove to me he a good scorer yet i think he can hold good d but his offensive game is horribe. Picture Portland if they wouldve took Kevin Durant instead of Greg Oden.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 2:20pm #191404

sheltwon3Participantat 10 million a season to be the top offensive weopon or a second guy is not bad. Martin was hurt a lot but i think healthy he at least earns his money. He was not signed to be a defensive player because if he could play defense and score 24 or so point mostly from the perimeter he would have gotten paid more money. I do think that Sacramento is trying to be the next young team to make that leap which means it will be a while before they are good but maybe like Portland they make that jump but just like Portland you have to add a least one solid vet to the your young talent. Also Minnesota could have shore up most of their positions in this draft but instead did not and had to make moves for veterans. I wish I could be a GM because a lot of people screwed up but I think that GM may be just a fall guy because how can you consistently not draft well and you play all those people to scout and judge talent.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 3:01pm #191421

llperezFirst off, I’m not a fan of his, but i have watched plenty of him play. He is not an all-star, but he far from sucks either. 10 mill per is a great price for him. And he does’nt just shoot, he creates offense on broken plays, he get’s into the paint where he has shown a much improving pull up game. He get’s to the foul line witht the best of them. His fg% is high.
Keep in mind. KMart was not a lottery pick. He was never billed the next SacTown savior. He has gotten better every year he has been in the league and has gotten the most out of his talent. He would put up big numbers on any team becuase he is efficeint on offense and does’nt need a whole bunch of plays called for him. He might not be a all-star, but he is far from a dissapointment either.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 3:06pm #191425

Sorry.Winning.Participantsurprise break out joe alexander, he should be in line to start if skiles decieds to let him play.
I think jamal crawford might have a disapointing year hes in a backcourt that has joe johnson and mike bibby who will start ahead of him. Also i dont see how don nelson will find minutes for cory maggette altho they do like to just run, catch and shoot so maybe he will still have a role
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 6:36pm #191585

auberParticipantD Grizz,
I don’t think it was so much as Gay taking the season off despite his numbers dipping, I just see him being a Robin to OJ Mayo’s Batman. Mayo is the leader on this team. I don’t think Rudy want’s all that pressure on him. He’s a very talented player in his own right, but is he going to be the guy that comes in through the clutch and take over a game like Mayo is capable of doing? I really don’t think so. He’s a great young Athletic Wing Man in this league, but aside from that I think the days of myself saying that Rudy Gay would lead the league in scoring at some point are long gone. Mayo’s going to the the majority to gay’s minority when it comes to shot selection. Let’s not forget instead of Jordan Hill we added a boneheaded ball hog into our offense with Zach Randolph. Rudy will average 17 ppg max this season and I think that’s even stretching it. Not because of ability, but because of everything else around him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 6:41pm #191595
Michael.S.ParticipantGay has been working on his overall game every second this offseason, and from what i heard he is really really impressing the U.S.A coaches soooo much he is about a fingernail away from a garunteed roster spot for Team U.S.A
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 6:49pm #191603
jordanrose13ParticipantI think this is the year he finally puts it all together and plays very well. Mostly because he has to because its his contract year, but its a breakout nonetheless. As for a disappointment, I’ll take Michael Beasley, I just have this feeling that he’s still a tweener and won’t necessarily find his place yet.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 4:51pm #192794
bluedevils12Participanti mean to be honest alot of the time guys hack when they either get lazy or get beat on defense. sometimes its intentional sometimes its not. i didnt say ben didnt try and play D i was jus saying ppl hack 4 different reasons.
