Sharp ShooterParticipantThe Lottery is coming up and im just wondering some players the pistons should consider if they get the by some strike of luck with the number 1 pick (99.9 would say Davis) but if they had the 9th pick who should they go with? Also is there anyone they should target in Free Agency/via trade?
Personally, i would take Jared Sullinger because he is NBA ready and would be an upgrade over Charlie V and Gordon off the bench…andwould be nice playing alongside Jerebko. If somehow he is taken, i would take a gamble on Arnett Moultrie.
In free agency, i would target an atheletic big like Josh Smith, Amare Stoudemire (he should be leaving the knicks after his performance in the post-season) Derrick Favors, or DeMarcus Cousins (unlikely), Tyrus Thomas…Also i would listen to offers for stuckey, daye, Gordon and Villianueva ..or at least try to package them for a legit scorer at the sf posistion or pf.
I really want to see the pistons return back to prominance because the east is up for grabs by anyone.. pistons are soo close..

F_DA_POParticipantI can picture the Pistons signing Josh Smith to the max and drafting Sullinger. They might compete for an 8 seed if this happens or maybe a .500 record. Unforunately, the Pistons are going nowhere with their current roster other than Monroe.

PulseGlazerParticipantHow the hell are you targeting non-free agents in free agency?

omphalosParticipantDepends where they end up in the lottery, but taking a look at Moultrie, Robinson (if he drops) or Henson are probably your best options at this stage.
They all bring an energy and athleticism that Monroe lacks, with Henson in particular providing shot-blocking the Pistons D will need with Ben Wallace gone.

TheBigEasyParticipantI don´t know about Jared Sullinger. He can shoot the outside shot (which I think is important if you want to pair him with Monroe, who you really need to use on his strong points), but his shot release is, right now, too slow for the NBA game. I have a bit of doubts there. Only if Perry Jones could get his head straight….

SwatLakeCityParticipantI agree with Big Easy. Sullinger and Monroe are very similar players. Both are offensive oriented, both struggle against bigger down low competition, both are great passers for big men. So they are just too similar. Normally if you’re looking for a dominating post combo you want two different players that way they can compensate for eathother’s weaknesses, complimenting each other well ultimately making it very hard for the opposition to stop them. So in other words the Pistons need someone who is defensive oriented and does struggle against bigger post players. John Henson would be nice addition, as would T-Rob or Anthony Davis. Unless the Pistons get very lucky and land a top 3 pick, T-Rob and Anthony Davis are out of the question, which leaves John Henson as the best pick. Moultrie doesn’t try very hard and isn’t committed enough. He would probably drive Monroe crazy instead of helping him out, not only that but he would also drive Detroit management crazy. Perry Jones operates best as a 3, but hasn’t played that position since high school, so he be pretty raw at that position, and Tayshaun Prince, Jonas Jerebko, and Austin Daye the Pistons don’t really need a 3. Leaving John Henson as the best pick.

Shanetaylor95ParticipantWhat They should do is go sign a couple players best suited to be a 6th man ( Ben Gordon , charlie v) and then sign them for a massive contract , and let them come off the bench. That eventually sets them back for a couple years cause you have no salary cap ( sacasm)

I mean target them in a off-season trade…

PulseGlazerParticipantThe Pistons lack the assets to even get close to Favors or Cousins via trade. They and everyone else are avoiding Amare and his uninsured injuries like the plague. That leaves Ty Thomas who can be had… but the question is how?

NYK2010ParticipantI’d like to see teams trade for Amare but chances of that happening are slim.
As for Amare’s playoff performance he shot 55% but only got 9 shots a game that isn’t nearly enough.
He needs 15-17 shots a game esp. since Lin, Shumpert were out. J.R. Smit gettint 15 shots a game makes no sense. If the team is healthy next year with a back up PG and Lin/Mello/Amare/Chandler learn to play together the team should improve a lot.
As for the Pistons they are stuck with Ben Gordon and Charlie V’s contracts for 2 yrs unless they opt out after a year which isn’t likely. Being capped out hurts but most likely they’ll have the 9th pick in very good draft.
Team needs some serious help on the boards 26th in the league and 27th on offense wow not a good combination.

dmo21ParticipantThis is what I realistically think the Pistons should do. Right now they have 10 guys under contract for next year:
PG- Knight and Bynum
SG- Stuckey and Gordon
SF- Prince and Daye
PF- Jerebko and Villanueva
C- Monroe and Maxiell
all of these guys will see pretty good minutes except maybe Bynum and Villanueva. So with a steady roster right now they just have to improve as a team and can draft players that might need a year or two to work on their game. They should also grab some vets to help their young players learn the game.
So in the draft I have them taking Henson with their first round pick to be a shot blocker in the future next to Monroe. In the second round I have them taking Darius Miller and Herb Pope for depth at the forward positions.
In free agency I see them looking to add a veteran presence for this young team but at a cheap price. So I would add a 3rd point guard in somebody like Keyon Dooling. Lastly I would look to add another center to move Monroe to power forward and to help evolve Henson. Marcus Camby would be the perfect fit. He could start next to Monroe and then teach the game to Henson, hopefully turning Henson into a player like himself who blocks shots and rebounds.
In the end, the 15 man roster would be:
PG- Knight, Dooling, Bynum
SG- Gordon, Stuckey
SF- Prince, Daye, Miller
PF- Monroe, Jerebko, Villanueva, Pope
C- Camby, Hensons, Maxiell
looks like a fairly good to me
