We can all assume that Sam Mitchell is on his way out. He does not bring the basketball I.Q and knowledge that you expect from a headcoach. He is great at pushing players but that is something he can do in a ass. coach role.
I can say that i will be the first to celebrate when he is out. Who do you guys think should be the new coach for the T-Wolves? I belive that a lot of great coaches could be intrested in the job. Such as Thibs, Blatt or maybe Brooks. What do you guys think?
    Thanks for your time

Scott Brooks would seem a logical choice given his success at OKC developing players and he’d have a very nice young talent pool at T-Wolves.

Blatt and Thibs would be safe choices too, Thibs may want a more win now team perhaps.

It would be an ideal first NBA job for any top young college coach who wants a challenge.

Could they appoint an insider such as Prince, KG I wonder. KG in particular would be a hugely popular choice, he’d know all the players, have their respect. He could appoint an experienced lead assistant to give the bench extra tactical experience too.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they gave Mitchell a 1 year deal and let him prove himself. Let’s be realistic here.. Sam Mitchell isn’t the reason that they’re losing so many games. It’s simply due to their lack of experience and youth. Put any coach in that situation and it result in the same thing. The plays that really hurt them during key stretches of the game is their lack of strength and toughness (since the core unit for this team is around 20-22 years old). Once they develop a little but more physically their close games will ultimately turn into more W’s..

All I’m saying is don’t sleep on Mitchell’s ability to coach. If you watch their games, you can tell that they’re improving! And that they are truly showing significant promise to the league and the MN fan base.

Let’s not forget Sam Mitchell was once the coach of the year when we was in Toronto. One thing that Mitchell has over guys like Thibs and Blatt is that he actually played in the league and knows what it’s like for the players, he can also relate to the guys both on and off the court. That was one big knock on Thibs part as he left Chicago. By running his players into the dirt and not ever letting his players get a day off (which is needed in a 82 game season)…

If the Wolves cannot land a big name coach I wouldn’t mind them keeping Mitchell for one more year and see how it plays out.

Mitchell is fine to have as an assistant coach but he isn’t in blatt’s, thibs or brooks league as a head coach. I would like to keep him as an assistant coach but they are probably the most attractive roster for a head coach to grow with. They don’t have time to waste on a bad or even average hire. I wouldn’t even mind the twolves taking a risk on a guy like shaka smart, the potential is there for him to be a great coach but a safe good to great hire like blatt, thibs or brooks would be best

Sam Mitchell’s position is a hard one to call, he had some decent success at the Raptors but didn’t get another lead job until he had to step in when Flip sadly died. Also Sam like Flip and KG is a bit of a T-Wolves legend having played there for over a decade in two spells before returning as Assistant under Flip. So there could be a logical role for Scott if he wasn’t Head Coach. He has been an Assistant for several other teams and could take on that sort of role alongside KG for example.

We don’t know if Flip did have any long term plan in place whereby he might have given up the coaching reigns possibly to say KG or Sam himself in due course. If the T-Wolves did decide to replace Scott with an established coach then ideally they would give Scott a front office role if he wanted one as he knows the franchise well.

As regards BBL’s comment on Thibs I’d guess any hiring of Thibs would be monitored carefully and you’d have senior players like KG, Prince to speak up if he ran guys into the ground etc.

with all the young talent, and more to come, isnt this potentially the best coaching job in the league for the next 5 years at least? Thibs seems like the perfect guy to me.

Both Thibs and Brooks have former connections to the Wolves and I think they would both be good choices.  Thibs would perhaps create a more defensive driven style while I would guess Scott Brooks would bring a higher scoring brand of ball.

Mitchell has done a good job handling the Wolves young players and they have made strides throughout the season.  I can envision coaches lining up with a hope to coach the Wolves now whereas that has not have been the case much lately.

I like Thibs, but I do not like him for the T-Wolves.  I think Brooks would be better for all the kids.

I like thibs because the team will gut out games defensively. The twolves have a bunch of hard working skilled athletes. They need a coach who will grind them into a great defensive team. Wiggins and towns can each get 20 to 25ppg using an isolation heavy offense. There is no reason with athletes like wiggins and Lavine on the wing and towns in the post that this team cant be a top 5 defensive team with a guy like thibs, then grind out points with wiggins, towns and lavine on offense. That team would have a chance to contend for 5 to 8 years, which is enough time to win a championship. Then by the time they are 30 they will worn out but I would rather have that than become the clippers and only get to the second round.

Hornacek seems like the best choice to me.

He’s an overachiever who was put in a tough situation by management with Dragic, Bledsoe and Thomas – then the deal with the Morris bros.

Brooks might work from a player development standpoint, but his lack of tactical acumen is worrying and let’s not forget how poorly he developed Jeremy Lamb.
