JDB12ParticipantThis has been quite the debate over the last few years with the aging CP3, and emergence of Curry, Westbrook, and Lillard of recent years. Strictly based off of last year, I don’t think there was a question that Curry was 1a, and Westrbook was 1b. Then followed by an interchangable group of Irving, Lillard, Wall, and Paul. But what has happened so far this season I believe has changed things a bit. The two best point guards this first part of the season have been Westbrook, and Harden if we are now considering him a point. And then Curry is right behind them with Lillard and Irving. So who do you think is the best point guard in the league right now? Because Westbrook and Harden have been dynamite this season, and Curry has still had a lowkey great start to his season while Lillard is carrying Portland the best he can. Irving took the ring last season and people seem to want to put him at the top based off of the go-ahead-bucket in game 7, which I believe is a bit hasty. Wall has played well, but the Wizards have been on the struggle bus for a while, and Paul’s statistics aren’t phenomenol, but his leadership and Clippers record keep him in the race. In my opinion, based off of who I believe is the best point guard in the league is..
Curry, and Westbrook at 1a
Lillard
Irving
Paul
Wall
And if Harden is considered a point guard, put him third right along side Irving, just because I don’t believe there is a large enough sample size to put him up with Curry and Westbrook yet.
What are your thoughts?

Robb_CParticipantThe best way to judge a PG is not by his stats but the other 4 guys around him.. I’d rather have a pg who puts 4 guys in good scoring positions oppose to a PG who is only knows how to pick his own spots, Its becoming a lost art in the league..

trelos6ParticipantSo Lebron is the best PG then. He can carry 3 turds and a shovel to the NBA Finals.

SlickBouncePassParticipantyou asked…
1. Westbrook – puts team on his back. May not make the best decisions, but is all out every game and impacts the game in the greatest way.
2. Harden – No way he is below Lillard. Has more of a complete control on offense than anyone on this list…he is nasty offensively. Defensively less of a knock on him due to the system he plays in now. He is a great fit for D’Antoni’s system…and everyone around him has a role and is playing hard and is following in his footsteps. His teammates know they need him, just like Westbrook.
3. Curry – makes everyone around him better and the video game jumpshot potential, but sorry, he has too many weapons and the system around him is too good. If he had what Westbrook or Harden have, I don’t think his team is better. The guy has too many good players around him. Yes, I think those other players feed off Curry’s energy, and Curry is the antithesis to like a Carmelo type player. But he came up very very small in the playoffs last year, and his defense is weak. No way Kevin Love stays in front of Harden and Westbrook.
4. Paul – intangibles as a floor leader. Hits big shots, but always comes up short in the playoffs with other great teams they haven’t been able to work a system around him. I think its due to his size limitations that he has less of an impact, but I would take his fire and competetiveness over anyone in this league, and he is a throwback PG.
5. Lillard – Bad shots, bad shots, bad shots. He is not Curry. Curry and Harden have a great ability to know when to pass to others and when to get his own. Lillard at times is too selfish. This is very true when he’s playing against teh Warriors, but maybe he’d dish it more if he had the Warriors cast. Still, I’m all about good shots and no matter how exciting he can be in the playoffs, Portland has too much talent to have the record they have right now.
I need to look over the rest of the league but I would definitely put Isiah Thomas up there with Irving and probably above Wall. Irving is feeding off his system he’s not a PG, he doesn’t know what a pass is. He’s a scorer. Wall is low energy, doesn’t make his teammates better. Plays a selfish game. He surrounding cast isn’t horrible. Again, this goes back to my thread from yesterday, the overvalue of athleticism vs. savvy.
The best guards impact the game by taking good shots and getting their teammates involved, playing hard, and having the unique ability to get their shoot when called upon.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantLebron James is the best point guard in the league

RUDEBOY_Participant1.westbrook.dude is the only player since the 83-84 season to total 380 + pts/190 + rbs & 190 +assts in his first 19 gms…he’s on pace for record breaking season..
2.curry.he havent missed a beat this season despite the addition of former mvp kd.
3.paul.a great leader and 1 of the few pure pg in the nba..
4.harden.he’s not a tradional pg,but he’s a good passer and has an outstanding b ball iq ”on offense”.”on offense”.
5.conley.not as physically gifted or an explosive scorer as some of the other pgs,but he gets the most out of his abilities….being a huge memphis fan, there was a time when i wasnt a fan of conley.but now i respect and appreciate his game..and understand why a small market team like the grizzlies gave him that huge contract to retain his services..
honorable mention :irving,wall,lilliard

SubZeroParticipantI’m the most stubborn John Wall fan in the world because I still don’t see how Kyrie is above him. If you asked who the best scorer at the 1 is, Kyrie would probably be #1. But that’s all he does on an All-Star level, he’s a PG averaging less than 5 assists. This season Wall is averaging as many points, more rebounds, and double the assists. My top 5 is
1. Russell Westbrook
2. Steph Curry
3. Chris Paul
4. John Wall
5. Damian LillardWith Kyrie, Lowry, IT, and Kenna following. I may be seen as a John Wall homer but I don’t think my rankings are crazy just because there’s so many great PGs and arguments can be made for most of them

RUDEBOY_Participantkemba walker might be the most underrated pg in the league….

DC FrazParticipantI know he doesnt put up the big flashy numbers, ala Steph,Russ,Kyrie, etc. but just watching this dude play, and how effiecient he is with what he does on the court offensively and his intensity on defense, hes #1 on my list. If there was a player i would my son to model after, it would be Paul all day.
There are alot of great PGs in the game right now and you couldnt go wrong with any of the top 4 or 5 as the best.
1.CP3
2.Steph
3.Harden
4.Russ
5.Dame
6.Kyrie
7.Kemba
8.Wall
9.Conley
10.Lowry
11.Thomas

Andrew1984Participant1. Steph
2. Westbrook
3. Harden
4. Kyrie
5. CP3
6. Lillard
7. Wall
8. Kemba
9. IT
10. Lowry0 - Posted on: Wed, 12/07/2016 - 12:43pm #1089235
trelos6ParticipantHonestly, It doesn’t matter who you have in the top 4.
Westbrook, Harden, Curry, CP3.
All 4 guys run their teams, and do it well. Westbrook and Harden can get you the big triple doubles, and are forced to do everything for their teams.
CP3 plays the best defense of the lot.
Curry’s gravity gets guys open shots. Plus, if he’s hot, he can change a game in a few min.
From there, I’d go Lowry, Wall and Conley. 3 of the better all round PG’s,
and then: Kyrie, Lillard, Kemba, IT. These guys can all flat out score, but are all quite horrible on D.

Pro-21Participant1. Westbrook: Carrying a mediocre offensive nba team to a 50 win pace while averaging 31 11 and 11. Not efficient as a scorer, but around league average.
2. Curry: Worst season in the last 3 years, but he’s averaging 26/6/4 with a 66 TS%. Don’t really think he’s necessarily worse than Westbrook. Really a tie roughly. Westbrook can do more with less, Curry can transition to more teams more easily.
3. Harden: Averaging 29/11.4/7.5 62 TS%. Carrying a decent team to a 51 win or so pace. Beasting. I think Westbrook is more irrepressible than Harden, but not sure Curry is. Still give the nod to curry.
4. CP3/Dame: CP3 still has the best Bball IQ, is a great defender and is a solid scorer who can shoot from anywhere. 18/9/5 on 61 TS%. Dame is averaging 28/6/5 on 61 TS%. The Blazers are struggling, but not really his fault, though his defense is awful.
5. John Wall: Wall is averaging 24/10/4 on 55 TS%, but the Wizards are trash. Not truly his fault, but if he keeps it up, it seems about right to me. He really just needed to prove he could score a bit better, and he’s done that. Imagine him on the Spurs?
6. Kyrie Irving: Now that Harden is a "PG," Kyrie is the game’s best shooting guard, since LeBron is effectively the Cavs’ PG. He’s averaging 25/5/3 on 59 TS%.
7. Kyle Lowry: He’s just rock solid and seemingly gets better every year. He’s averaging 21/7/5 on 59 TS% with very good defense. I don’t think Kyrie is better game-to-game, but his best is better than Lowry’s –aka, Kyrie can destroy the league’s best defenses in the playoffs.
8. Isaiah Thomas: Defied all odds and is averaging 26/6/4 on 57 TS% with a really high usage rate. Have to see if his scoring will translate to the playoffs though.
9. Kemba: He’s averaging 24/5/4 with a 58 TS% and he has the hornets in a good spot. He’s really awesome, might make the all star team.
10. Mike Conley: So solid. Great bball IQ, solid defender and decent scorer.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantIf I was going off everyone on their current teams this is who I would choose as top 5 in no particular order its all down to what your team to look like and style of play you wanted to run:
Russell Westbrook: As people have above have said Russell is making everyone better(with encouragement/energy and setting them up) and essentially dragging his team to the playoffs no matter what with his competitive drive. The crazy stats are just a bonus.
CP3: He has a High B-Ball IQ,leads that team, intiates the offense and has stats that show he more of a pure PG.
Curry: Here is serious question is he truly a PG now or a positionless player? Look how often he plays off the ball essentially making him a SG and someone else intiates the offense-Which is usually the PGs job to do. He score a lot more now(minus last year) and his assits are down.
Harden: I like this version of Harden the best so far since he left OKC,He has a coach that is finally using him right and maximizing his strengthes. I would prefer a bigger sample size but so far so good as he is making the rockets look at lot better this year. It’s kind of funny its almost like Curry and Harden wanted to switch positions this year(Curry being a Sg and Harden being a PG lol)
John wall: A respectable pass first PG that score when needed to he is just a victim of the wrong team and wrong coach currently for him to fully show his skills off..
