LeBron and Durant are the top 2 not even debateable.

After those two guys it’s interesting.

In my opinion when you look at all factors (current productivity, long term outlook, etc)

I will go with Anthony Davis. I know he has a lot to prove but I think after the end of this season he will be a solidified NBA megastar.

I’m sure the other name that will be thrown out there is CP3 and maybe a few dark horses that people will fight to the death over like Blake, Melo, Tony Parker, Love….

I will go with Anthony Davis who are you guys going with?

I like AD chances but I have to see him next season..

So far 26/7/8 in playoffs outplaying CP3 and Partker was enough for me from Russell Westbrook

You guys can’t crown AD just yet, he really hasn’t done enough, now after this season I wouldn’t even be surprised if he establishes himself as the third best player.. But as of now, I have to go with Westbrook, dude got the better of CP3 in the playoffs and I think it puts him above CP3 for the third best player, but it does not mean he’s the best point guard though, I still put CP3 above him in that category..

Could have said the same thing about Lebron after his 2nd year in the NBA.  Was he not top 3 after two years because he hadn’t accomplished anything?  No.

Westbrook 3rd best player in the league…comical.  He isn’t better than Chris Paul.  Everyone gets caught up on the exciting plays, and fail to realize he’s behind Paul in so many aspects of basketball.  Westbrook isn’t better than Paul, and isn’t the 3rd best player in the league.

    I would go with Westbrook.

Complete franchise type of player.  Alpha dog mentality.

But, you couldn’t go wrong with Chris Paul, Steph Curry, Blake Griffin, Carmelo Anthony, or Kevin Love.  Almost want to go with Anthony Davis.  You also have to consider Noah, Tony Parker, Derrick Rose, and James Harden.  And, Dirk.  The guy can still shoot and score.  I guess that is your NEXT TWELVE.

Along with Durant and LeBron, the rest of my top 20 would be LaMarcus Aldridge, Kobe, Chris Bosh, Kawhi Leonard, John Wall, and Marc Gasol.

I don’t think you can give someone a thumbs down for selecting a Top 10 player as their 3rd best…

Personally, I believe a healthy D. Rose is better than Westbrook last year…  And that’s the Westbrook that outplayed Chris Paul…  Still, it’s hard for me to say D. Rose is better than Melo…  Melo really had an MVP year last year as everyone else on that team checked out…  It was also his first year in the league EVER missing the playoffs, no one in your top 10 can say they made the playoffs every year as the team’s best player…  Everyone has missed more than one playoffs…  A lot of people talk about Melo’s playoff woes, but take a look at Chris Paul prior to going to the Clippers and teaming up with an All-Star BG, he’s got out the first round once…  Then you look at his entire tenure there, only the second round twice…  Plus he missed 3 playoffs…

I’m not saying CP3 is overrated, just relax on Melo and the "playoff" thing…  Without CP3 I still think the Clippers are a lottery team, he changed that culture…  So, he has a HUGE impact, I just don’t think him, Rose, or Westbrook are better than Melo…

Very good question, I don’t think Anthony Davis is there yet, K-Love has never made a play off appearance but both are likely to be considered in due course. When I read the forum topic CP3 first sprang to mind but the points about Westbrook outplaying him are very valid.

A fit and MVP level D-Rose would be right up there as would a fit and scoring Kobe. Melo has to be considered for his scoring and James Harden and an on form D12 are top 10 contenders.

I don’t see any of the older guys really being top 3 these days although Dirk still plays to an elite level and Tim Duncan’s presence on court is still immense.

LaMarcus Aldridge is another highly skilled player but I don’t see him as top 3 in the NBA.

I think Westbrook is too inconsistent to be  the 3rd best player.  He shows flashes that he can be,  but he has too many games where it feels like he is just chucking it. Chris Paul is more consistent,  and more efficient.

Depends on how much you weight past performance. If past performance, then got to go with CP3. If you want my guess for their ability to play basketball in the coming season, then Davis. But I’m assuming an uptick by AD and a down tick by CP3 (he isn’t getting any younger and he can’t really get "smarter" considering the level he is already at).

Rose is struggling to score in Fiba this summer. Frankly he wasn’t top three when he got the MVP and he certainly isn’t going to be top three this season.

Kevin Love for me.  Hate on it all you wont, men lie women lie numbers don’t lie.  why give it to someone like Anthony Davis who’s accomplished even less than Kevin Love has.  Had the there not been so many injuries on the wolves these past couple years he would’ve accomplished more and have been competing in the postseason already.  It’s a GIVEN next year.

The key word is "long term outlook"… I mean, if we’re considering that as a key factor, how do you put anyone over Anthony Davis not named LeBron James or Kevin Durant?

If we were just looking at right now though… I still have Chris Paul as the 3rd best player in the NBA. I think it’s very questionable Davis is even the best player at his position right now. He’s not better than LaMarcus Aldridge or Blake Griffin. I’m not sure he’s better than Kevin Love. Is he THAT much better than Serge Ibaka right now? If you had to win a big game right now, would you take him over Tim Duncan or Dirk Nowitzki?

It’s up for GRABS. 2nd place was up for grabs for a lot of years until Kevin Durant made no doubt about it anymore. The distance between them isn’t large anymore, The difference is defense where Lebron could just TOTALLY stop someone the last 3 minutes of a tight game. But the way that the Spurs carved them up and D Wade wasn’t on point, it didn’t even look like it mattered.
IT isn’t Chris Paul for two reasons; he is injury prone and two he just won’t take over games in the playoffs like he can. When he wants to, he can score easily going to the basket and making jumpers. He just won’t do it all the way because he believes in being a point and passing. But that’s why I say he’s great, but not the 3rd best.
IF James Harden played defense I might say it was his. Anthony davis is a good choice though because he started so raw and he always progresses so quickly. IF the Knicks won 50 games, you’d say Melo, but that’s not happening. It’s kind of weird because we know who the top two are, then after that, it’s like 10 people that are pretty much on the same level.

Considering the way he played last season you can make a strong case for Blake Griffin…But the field for whoever is the 3rd best player is wide open…Anthony Davis future looks bright..CP3 is the conversation..Melo has been consistent for years, even though his team didnt do much last season…We havent seen what Rose can still do..At the mid way of last season some were saying PG was the 3rd best…

I think Chris Paul hasearned the title.  Numbers alone support this claim IMO, but his impact is even greater that statistics show.  Underrated defender and clutch performer.  Toughest player in the league arguably.  Still holds the title of best point guard in the league, and is a top 5, if not top 3 player.  It’s very close though I admit.

I like Anthony Davis and other players mentioned, but I’m not quite ready to say they are better than CP3 or KD.  Although if Davis keeps improving at the rate he is I could be eating my words by mid season.  Not to mention Russell Westbrook who I think is talented enough to be league MVP if he can get out of Durants shadow.

Cp3 has become insanely overrated. Imo, he’s no longer even top 5. The way guys have played this year, LBJ and KD included, the top 5 is quite open to interpretation. Personally I have Curry, Westbrook, LBJ, KD, and AD with no be all over end all top 3, though I do feel like Westbrook and Curry have been the best of his season.

Davis is being held back by his teammates. Anyone who’s feels Davis is on par with Ibaka is showing some kind of blind opinion. Davis has a handle that Serge oh dreams of. Not to mention I have on far too many occasions seen Ibaka get beat off the dribble by far inferior players athletically such as Dirk and Marc.davis as a guy who Is often a third option in New Orleans still manages to put up 20+ and 10+.

I’m usually the guy who walks his own path when it comes to players, and I never follow what the common outlook of a player is. I take every NBA season as it’s own entity, and think that just because player A was the best player in 2000-2015 doesn’t mean he’s automatically the best in 2016. Every season is different, I don’t care if DRose was an MVP a few years ago, what’s he doing now that warrents that recognition?  Yes LeBron James has been the best player in the NBA for a while, but is he having a better year than others in 2015? That’s my mentality atleast, and I only base a player off of what I see in game, not in the boxscores. I don’t watch every game, but I do follow every team for the most part, and here’s my take on the top 5 players for the 2014-15 season, that I have seen.

    1. James Harden- I know a lot of people by into the hate of James, but he’s havng an incredible year. He’s by far the best offensive player this year, and does everything on that end of the floor. His defense has really improved, and he now has a 118 ORtg and a 102 DRtg. Those numbers are just eye popping. He also sports a 35% Ast%, and takes almost 10 free throws a game. This is such an under rated aspect of basketball, and Harden is simply the best at it. He’s accounted for about 230 shooting fouls, and this leads to players getting into foul trouble, and teams getting in the bonus earlier then most, which equates to far easier points for the Rockets.

    2. Anthony Davis- I don’t care what your team does. I really could give a **** that AD plays on an averave team because AD as a player is just going off on the league. He’s added a filthy midrange game, and is shooting about 45% from 16ft-three pt line, and it’s really made him unguardable. He’s sporting a ridiculous 125 offensive rating, 31.4 PER, and has the size and speed to just over power or run through anyone that is put in front of him. Defensively we all know that he is special. Leades the league in blocks at 2.8, 101 DRtg, 10+ boards every game, and turns the other team into a jumpshooting team for stretches of the game. In 2014-15 Davis is the 2nd best player I’ve seen

    3. Chris Paul- I’ll start off by saying I hate Paul. I never understood the hype and always though he was over rated. My biggest gripe with him was that he never knew when he had to turn it up, and take over the game. This year, I hate to admit it, he’s done just that and it’s kind of remarkable. He’s been a lights out shooter all year, and I’m pretty sure if hitting daggers was a recorded stat Chris Paul would lead the league in that too. Every time his team needs a shot or the other team gets momentum Paul just sinks it. He’s probably the best midrange shooter in the NBA this year, and sports an outlandish 47% ast %. His defense has also been well documented this year, and he’s sporting a good 105 DRtg, and rarely makes bad desicions on that side of the ball. He’s been a big reason why the Clippers haven’t missed a beat since the Blake injury, and makes guys like JJ Reddick and Deandre Jordan look too good sometimes.

Just some more notes. I think Curry is having a great year, but he’s not really playing better than he was last year, the Warriors just hired a real coach instead of a preacher. He’s def. a top 5 player this year and I wouldn’t argue with anyone who wanted to put him above Chris Paul as the #3 this year.

Westbrook is my favorite player in the NBA, but he’s not the MVP and he’s not the best player in the league. He isolates his teammates for long stretches of games, and sometimes he doesn’t know when to slow it down. He brings himself to the game instead of waiting for the game to come to him, and that’s wht I love about him, but it hurts the Thunder a lot. I think if they ever got a real coach things would be different, but right now Westbrook hurts the Thunder too much to be put above the above mentioned guys. Most recently look at the PHX game and the POR game. He played great, but at the end of the day he shut his team mates out and the because of that the Thunder lost.

Honorable mention goes out to Deandre Jordan. Not that I think he’s a top ten player, but this year I would put him in my top 15. He dominates plain and simple. If you don’t have somebody to match him, you’re probably going to lose. The best example of this is the DAL game. Chandler goes down, and the game was pretty much over. He’s the best rebounder in the NBA, and has improved his D dramatically. He’s a beast on the offensive glass, and even though he doesn’t have many post moves his defender and the defense still has to pay attention to him because he’s always going to be an ally-opp target or get the ball off of a defensive break down. Like Harden above, he also draws a ridiculous amount of fouls. Some people look down on him for his free throw shooting, but imo it doesn’t really effect the Clippers as much as people think when they look at box scores. The Clippers are 9-3 in games that he takes 9+ FTA, and those three losses came against BRK, CLE, and POR.

So easy.  Bunch of moronic clowns who didn’t agree.  And you wonder why this site is evaporating.
