andxxxParticipantMy list is
1. Lebron- I know he sucked in the finals and I won’t blame know one from dropping him down a few spots, but he was the second best scorer in the NBA and one of the best defenders in the league. Before the finals few would question that he was the best player in the league. He sucked in the finals, but for everything else he’s still my best player in the league.
2. Dirk Nowitzki- I’m just realizing how much of a beast he is. He is unstoppable on offense and is right now the most clutch player in the league no question. People forget, but the Mavs had 1 of the best records in the league before he got injured and the Mavs may have finished with the 1st or 2nd best record in the league if he remained healthy. His defense is underrated the Mavs actually improve on defense when he gets in the game. From watching him his defense improved a lot this year
3. Dwight Howard- The guy now has moves in the post and becoming more unstoppable in the low block. His defense is phenomenal and if his teammates could knock down shots like Dirk’s teammates he’d probably have a ring by now.
4. Dwyane Wade- The guy has surpassed Kobe mostly because of Kobe’s decline. He is almost unstoppable at getting to the rim and even though he gambles a lot on defense the plays he makes more than make up for it. If he’d be more consistent with his jumpshot he’d be the remix of MJ, not as good of course.
5. Derrick Rose- The guy was a monster this year and was unstoppable all season. I expect him to improve so much next year. His defense could be better, but at this point he plays slightly above average defense, which will only improve. He made plays in the clucth all year his performance against the Heat shocked me. He did not get the help from his teammates that he needed, but I felt he could have been better, he’ll come back strong next year.
6. Kobe Bryant- It was tough to leave him off my top 5, but he’s just not as good as he once was. He did not deserve 2nd team all defense this year, he couldn’t make plays late in games when his team really needed and even his offense was inconsistent. I feel getting eliminated early may have been a blessing in disguise; he’s getting extra rest and from the latest vids I’ve seen he’s looking healthy as ever I expect him to have a better year next year than he had this past year. For the record I’d take his prime over anyone above him right now including Dirk and Bron.
7. Kevin Durant- Excellent scorer, okay on defense, but not as good as he should be. His scoring ability is so special plus with his talent I see a big jump in his play for next year.
8. Chris Paul- If this guy was fully healthy he’d be way higher on the list. The guy is an excellent point guard and passer, but also has the perfect balance between scoring and passing (Derrick Rose could take notes). His defense is above average and he’s excellent at forcing turnovers. People who saw the Lakers series saw how special this guy is when he’s feeling healthy if his knee is good next year he’ll take his rightful place as best PG in the game.
9. Carmelo Anthony- Excellent scorer with the ability to put teams on his back and can score in so many ways. The reason he’s 9 for me is his defense sucks bad the only time he tries on defense depends on who he’s matched up against and how big the game is. The thing that bothers me is that he could be an excellent defender if he focused on it more, but sometimes it’s like he doesn’t care.
10. Deron Williams- The third best point guard in the league in my opinion. What makes him so special is his balance with scoring and passing that CP3 has. He is a good defender and once he plays in a bigger market people will appreciate how special he is.

TRC1991Participant1) LeBron James – Almost inarguable
2) Dwyane Wade- I still think Miami has the game’s top 2 players
3) Kobe Bryant- Agreed not what he once was but still an elite NBA player
4) Dirk Nowitzki- Had him more around the 6-7 range before this season’s playoffs
5) Dwight Howard- The most dominant big man in today’s game
6) Kevin Durant- Still not very clutch but one of the craftiest and most gifted scorers
7) Chris Paul- Had a sub-par reg. season but his playoff performance was exemplary
8) Derrick Rose- Don’t think he’s up to CP3’s level yet but boy is it close
9) Carmelo Anthony- Premier NBA scorer and clutch producer
10) Amare Stoudemire- Through the first 35 games, nobody was playing better

ZeroParticipantSolid list, but IMO I’d take Chris Paul over Derrick Rose. Mainly because he’s more of a true point guard in that he makes his teammates better with his playmaking skills and can score a bunch if he needs to.

NO EZ BUCKETSParticipantI love dirk just as much as the next guy, but i don’t know why everyone just hops on the bandwagon. I think he is defanitly a top 5 player, but i’ve heard people say he’s #1 or #2 player in the world. Dirk is an amazing scorer, shooter, leader, and is cutch wih the toughest shot to defend in the league but he doesn’t play great D and is a sub par rebounder. If you look at some of the all-time greats, they were amazing at both ends of the court. I agree that dirk’s offense makes up a little for his D and rebounding, come on people!

I May Be WrongParticipantBlake Griffin – Not a top 10 yet but man what he did kast season was just scary! Rebounding machine, great motor, athleticism matched by no other PF in the league. If he adds a jumper and commits defensively, he’ll be in that top 10 easily

andxxxParticipantCP3 under Rose was a tough choice I agree he’s the better PG, but when not fully healthy I don’t think he’s the better player. Blake Griffin will make this list pretty soon and as I said about Dirk he’s really underrated on defense.

JBrace19Participant- LeBron "The Decision Maker" James: He is a freak, not a champion, but the best overall talent in the league.
- Dwyane Wade: Even in LeBron’s shadow, i think he is the second best in the league, he can do it all, outstanding defense, good shooter, great slasher, shot blocker, rim rocker, stealer, distributor, whatever you think of he can do it efficiently
- Dirk Nowitzki: In my opinion, he is the best scorer in the league right now, not the greatest defender but he is solid, same with his rebounding, but he has a hunger to win like no other!
- Dwight "The ManChild" Howard: Beast…spectacular defender, can board it, and slam it with authority.
- Kobe Bryant: He was, is, and always will be "The Closer" and still is a dominant force in the league offensively and defensivly.
- Derrick Rose: A freak athlete, much improved shooting, great defender, explosive, good passer, and great slasher.
- Kevin "The Duranchula" Durant: Top 3 scorer in the league right now, can defend, rebound, pass, and handle it. Very smart on the court.
- Deron Williams: Still produces in New Jersey and is still dominant. Can’t get much better than 20ppg and 10apg
- Carmelo Anthony: All around player…when he wants to. Great scorer, good rebounder, and defends well. Also can handle it and pass.
- Rajon Rondo: Can’t shoot, but can play. Great ball handler, maybe the best on ball defender in the league (Remember he took on LeBron James), good rebounder for a guard, amazing passer, quick as a cat and fast as a cheetah.

WizardofOzParticipantI don’t have a full top 10, but LeBron’s definitely not at the top of my list anymore. He’s ALREADY declining athletically. His body is a shell of what it used to be. His drives in the hal-court are in slow-motion now, and he also doesn’t have as much bounce as he used to. Without the big-time athleticism, he’s basically useless on offense, like the Finals. Whether this is due to wear & tear or too much muscle mass, it could just be possible that he’s on the decline.
I think that Dwyane Wade has eclipsed him as the #1 player in the league, and I’d put Dirk and Dwight ahead of LeBron at this point. It will be very interesting to see how LeBron plays next year (if there’s a season).

flybobbyflyParticipantlebron went 27,7,7 last year. what the hell are you guys talking about? The reason he couldnt get to the basket as much is that in cleveland he always had three guys on the court that were shooters that would stretch the floor for him. In miami hes arguably th best shot on the team.
As much as I would like to believe he is declining at the age of 27 i just dont see it.

WizardofOzParticipantJust watch 1-minute of Miami LeBron, and watch 30-seconds of Cleveland LeBron, and you’ll see the difference. When LeBron was in his prime athletically, he was the greatest athlete in NBA history. But his body is a shell of what it used to be.
On this link I’m about to post, you’ll see somebody that agrees with me and posts gifs where LeBron can’t get past the Bulls big men. http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1117310&start=90
And what’s with all these people laughing at the notion of a 26-27 year old declining? The NBA is full of players that dont last more than a few years in the league. Especially if you come in as a teenager, it’s not crazy to think a player can decline after 8 years in the league. especially if you rely on athleticism primarily. It’s not impossible to say the least.

andxxxParticipantI don’t get what ya’ll are saying about Lebron how do you decline at 27 with no injuries? Did you watch any of his games before the finals? He was ballin’ and Dwade is inconsistent (see the Bulls series and him against Boston during the regular season). You could have said Lebron looked guardable in 2008 against the Celtics during the playoffs except for that monstrous game 7, which is my biggest problem with him he needs to stay aggresive. With all that said how can you really put D-Wade ahead of him its close, but I need a more legit argument than just looking at the finals

WizardofOzParticipantLeBron has spent 8 years in the league, and has played MANY minutes. It’s not irrational to say that a 27-year-old that has played as many minutes as he has and has been carrying his large frame around for many years is losing athleticism.
And there’s a reason why he’s not playing aggressive. It’s because if he does, it’s going to hurt his team because of the way he plays now. In Game 1, he honestly didn’t give a sh*t, but in Game 2, he tried to play more aggressive but he couldn’t and wasn’t very effective. Youi can’t play aggressive when your drives in the half-court are in slow-motion, and you’re not skilled enough to compensate. If he kept on trying to take it to the whole like everyone is saying, he would’ve have commited a plethora of turnovers beacuse of his diminished 1st step.
And the reason why he was balling before the Finals is because his jumpshot was strokin’. He was making unreal jumpers. But in the Finals, he showed just how useless an offensive player he’s become when his his jumper’s off.

kobyzParticipanthow can you put Lebron ahead of Wade, we were all been witness in the last playoff to the true, no knoking or hate against the guy just being rational, Lebron still amazing player with amazing qualities but lacks basic and important stuff for being the very bests, things that exposed mainly come playoff time when defenses are serious, as a scorer, he lacks the ability of the real great ones to be unstoppable in every situation, as he dosen’t have the elite feel for the game and his scoring game base on speed and explosiveness and not quickness and body control and he doesn’t have legitimate post game or natural outside shooting prowess to compensate.
Lebron always been like this, it’s not only the last playoff, Wade in other end has what it take to be unstoppable and hard play for the defense no matter what.

andxxxParticipantWizardofOz even D-Wade had trouble getting past the Bulls’ big men at times that’s why their defense is so good. As far as Cleveland Lebron I’ve seen a bunch of him and the way he looked against the Mavs and even the Bulls at times was the way he looked against the Celtics during the playoffs. There have always been certain defenders and defenses Lebron has trouble against and it tends to make him not look as athletic as he is. He had no trouble against that 2007 Pistons defense, but I could argue the Celts, Mavs, and Bulls defenses are better than the 07 Pistons defense.
Watch him blow past durant doesn’t look to slow to me:

aamir543ParticipantIn the finals, he averaged more threes per game than free throws. smh, smh.
And to flybobbyfly, I initially thought the same thing you thought, how the hell can a 26 year old superstar, who has frickin god given talents to do anything he wants on the court, how can he be declining already? I still don’t know, but he has bulked up toooooo much, and his mindset is messed up. He wants to take 30 foot Js over Peja Stojakovic.
If Lebron does not develop a post game, I will hate him(Same goes for Durant) Hate him for what he is robbing us of, what we could’ve had, and what he gave us. He mails in parts of seasons, coasts through parts of games, and still gets 27, 7, and 7! And forget about MJ, At this point I am ready to say he won’t even be on Kobe’s level. But I will say he should be better than MJ. He should have 3 tittles in Cleveland. And by this point in his cateer, we should already be hailing him as the GOAT. I hope someone has sent a message along the lines of this to Lebron, because he needs to realize that he is not helping himself by taking fadeaway 30 footers over legendarily bad defenders.

HadzialijagicParticipant1. Wade: Lebron may be more talented but wade is the one that did the most to carry the team its his team
2. Lebron: is a talent i agree he isnt as athletic as he once was in cleveland
3. Dirk: Matchup nightmare, showed the grit he lacked his entire career when he led his team to the championship
4. Dwight: Still head and shoulders above the rest of the centers is a freak.
5. Kobe: He was widely considered the best player in the nba up until his teams playoff collapse.
6. CP3: when healthy the guy is a pure point guard with the heart of a warrior
7. Durant: Super Talented doesnt have the killer instinct i want he has time to get one though
8. Rose: MVP but doesnt make the players around him better
9. Anthony: close to unstoppable to stop scoring but needs more playoff success or he will always be remembered like Tmac/Wilkins
10. Deron Williams: Fantastic point guard great passer strong im worried about his move to NJ though

andxxxParticipantI know I said its close between Wade and Lebron, but how could anyone who watched the entirety of the Heat’s season have Wade ahead when Lebron was better throughout the year. Its like ppl just watched the finals and ignored everything that happened before hand. Why do ppl keep saying Lebron is bad in the post he’s an excellent passer out of the post and is mostly effective when facing up, using a drop step, and his fadeaway has been improving as well. Do ppl still think Dwight doesn’t have a post game? If wer’re going off this past year Lebron was 17th in the league at scoring in the post and the year before 14th according to Synergy. If you got Lebron behind Dwade fine, but bring a better argument please.

WizardofOzParticipantI think this clip is from the 09-10 season, but I don’t think you can honestly tell me with a straight face that he’s as quick/athletic as he was in this clip. Watch at 7:03 and 8:06. Some crazy stuff!
I’m telling you, just watch the best LeBron Heat mix you can find, and compare that with the mixes of Cleveland LeBron, and you’ll see a BIG difference, and it’s really affecting his play on the court.

andxxxParticipantWizardofOz I looked at the vids and can see where you’re coming from, but even if his first step is not quite what it used to be he’s still one of the fastest players in the league end to end and one of the most explosive finishers. He’s also has been putting in a lot more work on defense which expends energy that could be used for offense. The guy still has the best combination of size and speed in the league so you can’t say he’s really declined that much and in my opinion not at all, but the muscle mass looks to have slowed him down slightly I’ll give you that.

ChrispyParticipantThe whole minutes thing is BS. "Watching someone’s minutes" adds up to what? An extra few hours a regular season off. These guys are professional athletes. If anything it is the constant pounding of fouls and jumping/ running year round for practice and conditioning. But minutes? Puh-lease. Never bought into it and never will.

mwalling2117Participant1) LeBron James – Most talented player in the NBA. Dude is the closest thing to averaging a triple double since the big O. Despite his 4th quarter struggles he is still the most dominate player since Jordan.
2) Derrick Rose – Where is the love? All this guy did was lead his team to the best record in the NBA, with less talents around him than Lebron, Kobe, Durant, Dirk and Dwyane. He won the NBA MVP by a landslide and the highest he has been ranked on any list is 5th. My man gets to the rim at will, is the best fiinisher under 6’7", and completely dominated Dwyane Wade in the Eastern conference finals. But then again Rose is my favorite player, so I might be biased.
3) Kobe Bryant – Hypothetical scenario – Game 7, down by 1, 10 seconds left on the game clock; is there anyone you would rather have the ball in their hands than Kobe? I can’t think of one.
4) Dwight Howard – Most dominant low post force since Shaq. Best low post defender since the dream. A complete pencil in for 20, 15 and 3. I think he would be higher if he actually a little competition for best center in the league.
5) Kevin Durant – Best pure scorer in the NBA. Tall, unblockable adn a solid rebounder for a perimeter player. He is also the leader for the next breakout franchise.
6) Dirk Nowitzki – THE CHAMP! Dude is most unstopable player in the NBA not named Lebron. Can score on the perimeter and on th block. Best low-post scorer in the NBA and a solid rebounder. Would be higher on the list, but he is not as good of a defender as the people above him, but still an amazing player.
7) Dwyane Wade – I will start this by saying he is a great player, dynamic scorer, a very good passer/ rebounder and one of the best defenders at his position. But I think he might be the most overrated player in the NBA. everyone is getting on Lebron about coming up small, by in the Eastern conference finals Dwyane was dominated and had to rely on Bosh and James to carry "his team". He is obviously a great player, but the best player in the NBA? He isn’t even the best player at his position or on his team.
8) Chris Paul – Best pure point guard in the NBA. Has carried ever since he was drafted. If he hadn’t been injured and had more talent around him, he might be in the top 5.
9) Carmelo Anthony – I would call him the second beast scorer in the NBA and he could drop 40 on you any night. But his defence lacks a bit, and he isn’t that good of a passer.
10) Blake Griffin – I might be premature on this one, but Blake is the man. Best game dunker I ever, yes better than Jordan. He is explosive, a great rebounder, and an underrated post game. I could see Blake being in the top 5 on this list by this time next year if we have a season next year.

aamir543Participant@Andxxx, Watch where his head is in comparision to the rim in the video you posted, then watch the highlights Wizofoz wanted you to see. See how high his head was in the cleveland video, compared to both dunks in the Miami video.
I agree he has lost a couple inches off his vert, as well as some speed, but he is still one of the fastest on the court, that is why he was able to get by Durant. Plus Durant didn’t even try ot slide his feet.

RUDEBOY_Participant1.Lebron-Talent wise he has it all, except sometimes he’s his own worse enemy..Out of high school he could’ve picked a number that people could identify him with. But instead he chosed the most famous number in sports. Then then changed it to 6,the same number as 2 other legends of the game wore( Russell & Dr. J). He could’ve remained in Cleveland and won a ring, but instead chosed to join another superstar..It seems to me that he
2.Kobe-Ask any coach which player they fear most with the ball in his hands in the finals seconds? 85% will say its ‘The Black Mamba
3.Wade-When i saw him during the 2003 NCAA Tournament, i saw alot of Jordan in his game..Despite not being a great shooter.Alot of coaches think he’s the 2nd most feared player in the league with the ball in his hands in the final seconds..
4.Durant-Most of the people that jumped on his bandwagon last year after the World Games .Have now Abandoned him for Dirk..But people who really know & follow the game will agree that he’s a top 5 talent..He’s more in the mold of a George Gervin or T Mac than Jordan or Magic…
5.Howard-His defense, rebounding & shot blocking keeps him in the top 5…
6.D Rose-I got alot of flack last year when i said he had the talent to be the best pg in the league..Now most will agree thats true..
7.Nowitzski-I think he’s improved his game so much than being a jump shooter..He has to be now 1 of the 3 most unstoppable guys in the league…
8.Carmelo-I think him Durant & Kobe have the best offensive skill set out of all the players in the league..His poor defense and failure to make teammates better keeps him out of the top 5…
9.Blake Griffin-Some would say he’s not there yet.But if a vet had done what he did last season. He would’ve been the MVP..
10.CP3-Injuries have slowed him..But he has intangibles you cant teach…He’s 1 of the few players in the nba, that i think if you can put on any team in the league, they’ll be in the playoffs…

RafterParticipantI agree LeBron is less athletic then he was in Cleveland but he’s still a fabulous athlete and still one of the most athletic small forwards around.
1. LeBron James
2. Dirk Nowitzki
3. Dwyane Wade
4. Derrick Rose
5. Kobe Bryant
6. Kevin Durant
7. Dwight Howard
8. Amar’e Stoudemire
9. Carmelo Anthony
10. Chris Paul
I honestly think there isn’t much difference between one to five, i could easily see any of the top five as the number one on other people’s list.

BigDParticipant1- LeBron James- There’s nobody to knock him off this spot just yet, and i unfortunately fear something big to come from this guy next season.
2- Dwight Howard- If only this guy can have a decent 2nd option on his team to compliment his game, then a ring is in question, most dominant true centre around these days.
3- Chris Paul- The way he showed he can still play in these playoffs puts in him back into number 3 for me, i suspect he will be moved this coming season, Clippers are the most likely destination as they have that top 5 protected pick or something.
4- Dirk Nowitzki- 2011 Playoffs, enough said.
5- Dwayne Wade- Domination production when it’s needed, just has those couple of complete disappearing acts in crucial games to me.
6- Derrick Rose- Already a ultimate superstar, just needs to be able to shoot and lead a team better.
7- Kobe Bryant- Been on the decline lately, but still is up there in production.
8- Carmelo Anthony- Most dominant scorer and i fear this season it will only become worse.
9- Kevin Durant- Yes i know he’s know, but he doesn’t have that superstar attitude that i want the ball now and it’s my time. He needs to tell Russell Westbrook just how good he is to rise higher for me.
10- Amar’e Stoudemire- For someone with so many injuries and major ones at that, to still be one of the most athletic bigs in this league is a testimony to his work ethic alone, New York are on the rise thanks to this man.

frogmanParticipantRUDEBOY – I do agree that Griffin should be somewhere towards the back end of the top 10 but if a vet puts up 22.5 12.1 and 3.8 on a team that goes 32 – 50, they have a whole 0% chance of winning MVP

R-Dot-13ParticipantI think Griffin is top 20 after last year.. but he can definetly move into the top 10 this year if he improves, which he will.
Expecially if CP3 goes to the Clippers.Imagine Paul, Griffin and Gordon.
The Clippers goes from awful to possible top 4-5 seed.
IMO there are 2 people that have a chance to over take Wade and Lebron as the best player in the league, and their names are Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin.

theTKOshowParticipantI got to say I like most of the top 10s, there seems to be a general consensus of the top 5-6 guys with durant and rose being another dominating season or 2 from being in that group that has dominated for many years now. One thing I don’t like is Carmelo getting the nod over amare in most top 10s. He is an absolute beast who took the Knicks on his shoulders before the Carmelo deal happened and had them playing just as well as they did after the trade. He was a man on a mission with a streak 30+ pt games while facing constant doubles and showing he wasnt a player who needed nash to dominate. This is a big man is one of the more athletic players even after the microfacture knee surgery, has a soft touch around the rim, has shown that he can even step back and hit the occasional 3, hits his free throws and can take his man off the dribble. To me carmelo, i dont want to say is overrated because not many guys have put up numbers like him but i wouldnt put him ahead of amare in terms of best players. he is a volume shooter who doesnt really make his teammates much better and hasnt shown much willingness to defend. i feel like there are multiple guys in the league who could match his stats if they were given the green light he has to shoot as he pleases

kevnix5Participant1. Lebron James – not a fan but hard to argue with the numbers and the talent.
2. Kevin Durant – just an unbelievable scorer and pretty solid defender as well.
3. Dwayne Wade – guy attacks the rim better than anyone in the league.
4. Kobe Bryant – again not a fan but this guy is one of the 10 best ever but did take a step back this year for sure.
5. Dirk Nowitzki – after that playoffs run he just went on its hard to keep him out of the top 5 so I won’t. Most clutch player in the league today.
6. Dwight Howard – best defensive player in the league year after year and offensive game is starting to come around a bit.
7. Derrick Rose – just became the youngest MVP in league history and although he is not a classic PG he still puts up good assists numbers and may be the best scoring PG in history before he’s done.
8. Chris Paul – can single handedly carry a team to the playoffs and win games with little to no help from his teammates.
9 Carmelo Anthony – can score the ball at will, still not convinced going to the Knicks was the right decision they still need to add alot to truly be competitive.
10 Deron Williams – I know Amare is close but he just doesn’t play enough defense (partly D’Antoni’s fault). Deron Williams carried the Jazz for years and could be higher on this list if he can take the Nets to the playoffs.

IndianaBasketballParticipant1. LeBron James – I’ve been critical of the holes in his game for the past few seasons, however there aren’t too many players in the history of the league who are worth a guaranteed 50-60 wins just by adding them to the roster. He’s heard the criticisms loud and clear, and I think he’ll come back next season a much better player. I’m hoping he comes back with a post game (low, mid and high post), a couple of go-to moves and a more consistent jumpshot. Players can’t stay as athletic as they were when they were 18-24 years old… You lose your athleticism as you get older. That’s life. However, he’s still big, strong, fast and a great/strong leaper. He probably could lose some weight this off-season… I think that’d take some of the pressure off of his knees, etc (he looked like an old man during the Finals with all of the ice on his knees). IF LeBron is going to be this big/heavy, then he needs to develop that post game. He needs to learn to score easy buckets… He has to work too hard.
2. Dwight Howard – He’s arguably the most important player to his team in the league. His offense has improved significantly… He’s dominating the paint at both ends of the floor. Other than him, there isn’t one player on Orlando that’s a good defensive player, yet they’re always ranked among the top defensive teams in the league. That should tell you something… Big men who can dominate the paint at both ends make the game easier for everybody else.
3. Dwyane Wade – He’s a MVP caliber player in his own right. LeBron is a better overall player (and not as injury prone), but Wade has made more improvements in his game in my opinion. Wade also has what LeBron just doesn’t seem to have and that’s elite level killer instinct, and that’s at both ends of the floor.
4. Kobe Bryant – He has quite a few characteristics keeping him in the top five despite aging. He’s still the most complete player in the league, the most competive, has an insane work ethic and has more killer instinct/will than anybody else. A lot of people forget that this man has been playing injured for awhile now. IF Pau Gasol doesn’t give up on the Lakers, they probably make it to the Finals.
5. Dirk Nowitzki – He’s unguardable offensively… Period. Like I said before the Finals… There is no player in the world that can defend him (not even LeBron)… No defense that can stop him. He’s seen every defense and every kind of defender. He’s a complete player offensively who’s also unselfish. He makes the right passes (sometimes that’s the pass that leads to the assist). He’s a solid rebounder. He’s not a great defender, but understands where to be and has quick hands (he gets a lot of strips). He’s not as mentally fragile as he once was. He’s improved his leadership skills. Cuban should be given credit because he surrounded Dirk with the perfect teammates this season. Kidd, Terry, Barea and Chanlder were huge. Even Stevenson played a key role. Total team effort on their parts.
6. Derrick Rose – He’s the MVP of the NBA. Combine freak athleticism with an insane work ethic… Plus he looks like a player who’s on the way to having elite level killer instinct. Miami’s defense really did a number on him though… I expect him to be a much better player next season because of what Miami and LeBron did to him. He needs to keep improving his jumpshot, defense and become an even better passer… He just needs more experience playing in those kind of games.
7. Chris Paul – The torn meniscus he suffered really impacted him this past season, but we saw glimpses of the old CP3 vs the Lakers (albeit he was being defended by Fisher and Blake). When healthy, he’s the best point guard in the league and arguably a top five player. The thing about a torn mensicus though is that you can’t replace it… Once it’s gone, it’s gone. He’ll be playing with some pain for the rest of his career (there will be times his knee swells up, etc). Overall, he’s still the best point guard in the league. I just don’t think he’s as dominant as Rose is at this point.
8. Carmelo Anthony – He’s a bully. He can shoot the three ball, has a killer mid-range game, can put the ball on the floor and can destroy you in the post. He’s not always a willing passer, but his offensive game is great. He’s one of the most clutch players in the league. I’d like to see him dedicate more to the defensive end consistently. The pressure to perform is high in New York, so I hope his working hard this summer.
9. Kevin Durant – He’s a great offensive player, which is scary because he doesn’t even have a complete offensive game yet. The next step in his development is getting stronger, adding a post game and becoming a better passer (he has to see the floor better). As he develops those things, I think his ability to perform more consistently in the clutch will improve as well. He’ll pretty much be unguardable, similar to Dirk. His work ethic is insane, so we know he’ll get better. One thing I don’t like though is that he doesn’t demand the ball down the stretch of games… At times, he looked like he was running from the ball. I don’t like that… Which is why I have him ranked below Anthony for right now.
10. Deron Williams – He had a rough season. The whole thing in Utah, being injured and then traded to the worst team in the league the past season. I question his leadership ability, but his total package as a player keeps him in the top ten. When healthy, many people consider him the best point guard in the league.

mikeyvthedonParticipantThey were all in my article for the best "franchise players" that I posted around a week or so ago.
1. LeBron James: Say whatever you want, there is not a better basketball player in the game right now. He has yet to win it all, but I think his time is coming rapidly. Also, his athleticism may be "declining", and he is still the most incredible athletic specimen in the NBA. So, saying anything about his athleticism taking him out of the top spot sounds incredibly ridiculous.
2. Dwyane Wade: Honestly, I love him, he is a fantastic all-around player, but I am still torn between him and the next player on the list. Still, Dwyane is incredible, and I think it is a matter of time before he and LeBron get their team up to their level. It is kind of crazy for a team with the two best players in basketball not winning a championship, but give them time.
3. Kobe Bryant: If there is an NBA season next year, expect Kobe to be even better than he was last season. My brother has friends working his camp, and he is JACKED. He will be stronger and more determined this season, and there is no player more focused. He is a competitive monster, and he out wills people. No one is better at the end of the game, and if the Lakers make subtle differences, they will again have one of the best teams in basketball. Kobe Bryant is a proven winner and an ever dependable presence.
4. Dirk Nowitzki: It is difficult to rank him this low after his incredible play-offs, where he indeed looked like the best in the world on multiple occasions. He is an offensive weapon who makes shots with incredible degrees of difficulty. Plus, while they may be just free throws, his displays at the line were INCREDIBLY devestating, and if other players were even close to his capability in this one area and were crucial in keeping the Mavericks a level above everyone they faced. If LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were able to make their free throws at a level even close to Dirk, the series might have gone much differently. Nonetheless, he is a major competitor and carried his team to a title. He had some great teammates, and their team defensive effort was fantastic, but Dirk deserves most of the props. The guy improves every year, has been incredibly consistent and even became a very proficient defensive rebounder. He is by far the best player at the position with the most All-Star caliber players in the league and I expect him to be at this level for a while longer still.
5. Dwight Howard: His presence on both ends of the court stands out completely. In a league without REAL All-Star Centers, he is a superstar. His numbers offensively may not be up to par with the great Centers of the 90’s, but he is definitely a force, and he is a player that makes his team much better. If given the proper pieces, or teamed with another superstar, he could definitely lead the charge toward a championship.
6. Kevin Durant: This is just assuming he progresses at the rate he has been. I think the Melo vs. KD debate tilts in Melo’s favor, WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING EACH OTHER Much like Chris Paul is usually seen as superior to a Deron Williams, who gets the best of him in head to head match-ups, this one goes to the player who is more consistent and efficient on average. That is Kevin Durant. He does not have the strength of Melo, but he is a better long range shooter, is incredibly difficult to guard as a face-up player, and he has the length to develop an unstoppable post game. Truly, Kevin Durant is further along than Melo was at a similar point, and I think he will just continue to develop as such.
7. Chris Paul: Derrick Rose had the better overall season, but I still believe Chris Paul is the best PG in the league. He can do things no one else can at incredible efficiency. No one is a better floor general, and if Chris Paul were put in the right situation, it could be scary. I think he makes people MUCH better than they would be otherwise, and while he may not have put up his usual scoring numbers, New Orleans would have been lost without him. If he gets to a team with some solid pieces, watch out, because the Isiah Thomas comparisons are real with CP3.
8. Derrick Rose: I would rank him higher if this list was based on just last season, and I am sure Derrick will continue to improve. Nonetheless, to be ranked this high after only 3 seasons in the league should be seen as an honor, and D-Rose is definitely deserving. The term "ice water in his veins" seems to be incredibly fitting, and I do not know if there is a PG who has been as explosive as Derrick Rose in NBA history. John Wall is being called by many to usurp him, but I think Rose’s combination of strength and speed is unmatched. He definitely could be one to lead a team to titles, and his defense will indeed improve with time. As he becomes a more complete player, he should be near the top of this list.
9. Carmelo Anthony: No one makes offense look more smooth. He can handle incredibly well, and on occasion he is an unstoppable offensive force. Not only that, but he is actually a strong rebounder and he has a more complete offensive game than either of the SF’s in front of him, considering his post game and use of his body. Still, it seems as if Melo’s intensity is almost one sided, he has never been a consistent defender. He has improved in this area, but it will more than likely never be his strong suit. What Melo needs to do is become a more efficient shooter as far as his offensive percentages, which have not been up to snuff with some of the elite players listed ahead of him. A full season on the Knicks should be a great way to see if Melo is indeed one of the elite’s in the league and can lead a team to contending. We know he can make it look easy, but he needs to do the difficult things that bring his team up to a championship caliber level. If so, he may indeed be near the class of his draft mates at the top of the list.
10. Deron Williams: Some may disagree with this pick, but I think he has proven that he can lead teams to great levels. He is an incredibly complete player, and I am not so sure that he is not just as good as either Chris Paul or Derrick Rose. Clearly he can compete at their level and makes his team better. New Jersey’s team last season was an incredibly tough project, but with Williams at the helm, it seemed like much bigger things could be done. The Jerry Sloan situation was incredibly messy, and one has to wonder as to how Deron will bring a still pretty lacking group of talent up another level, but he is someone great players would want to play with. His passing is on the level of any player in the league, and he is over powers opponents consistently. He can beat people in so many different ways, and I just see him as a winner. The Jazz did score quite a bit in return for him, but the Nets still got the best player in the Deal, and a major franchise building block.

thparadoxParticipant1. Lebron
2. Wade
3. Chris Paul – when healthy, he might be the best PG ever to play
4. Durant – not as reliable on offense as other elite scorers just yet because he takes a few too many jupmers sometimes. but when he’s on, he’s unstoppable. he’s also very good defensively
5. Dirk
6. Howard – offense is still very limited, and FT% still a big weakness.
7. Gasol – extremely efficient, does all the dirty work and is also a go-to post option. Had a horrible playoff series, but he’s still top 10.
8. Kobe – he has clearly declined. His last peak year was 2 years ago. I cannot see an argument for him being in the top 5 here.
9. Manu Ginobili – Keeps getting better. Dominates in limited minutes and he even improved his passing this year.
10. Derrick Rose – Absolutely dominant and efficient scorer, but still lacking some defensive awareness.
Carmelo and Amare? Talk to me when they get serious on defense.

kobyzParticipantif you summarize the amount of the abilities and you join all aspects of the game(Defense, playmaking, scoring etc.) maybe Lebron has more than all, more than Wade, Kobe and even Jordan, but it’s not work like this when you try to judge who the best, it still not make Lebron better than Jordan, Kobe or Wade, cause all these 3 players are high level at all aspects but in additional has the extraordinary scoring ability to be unstoppables in every situation and to be closers, that the one somthing that has no alternative, the things Lebron better in them, these things you can somehow receive from teammates and others…

iguapops420ParticipantIt’s funny how every year we ALWAYS hear how we expect HUGE things from LBJ, NEXT year, but when next year comes same old 27,7,7 LBJ(great numbers) but yet unable to lead his team to the victory at the big dance. That is why I say he’s not the best. Not because I wanna take away his incredible regular seasons and 3/4 of posteason. but because when the REAL pressure is on, he has to have his 2nd in command lead his team. And IMO, the reason Wade struggled so much during the first part of playoffs was simply because of the fact LBJ had gone back to playing Lebron ball. If we’re talking overall talent , yeah LBJ is best, but if we’re talking about being able to consistently do the stuff, then by no means is he the best. 3rd or 4th, yes, but not #1.
This is not hatred, this is me simpy feeling that the best player isn’t always the guy with the best numbers, but the guy who gets it done at the end of the day.
BTW, to those who say LBJ’s on the physical decline, I must strongly disagree,. For the amount of weight he has put on, he’s still a top level athlete who is even able to guard PG’s. All the guy needs to do is lose 10-15 lbs and he’ll be right back to athletic marvel LBJ. HE’S 27 YEARS OLD, NOT 37.

Memphis MadnessParticipant1. Dirk
2. Wade
3. LeBron
4. Derrick Rose
5. Dwight Howard
6. Kevin Durant
7. Kobe Bryant
8. Chris Paul
9. Zach Randolph
10. Blake Griffin
That’s RIGHT NOW. Dirk can move down some, even though he is the best offensive weapon in the game who also gives you some rebounding and is a matchup nightmare. He is unstoppable on offense when he is on his game and his fallaway shots are unguardable. He is also automatic from the foul line and a pretty decent shot blocker. Wade is the best shooting guard in the game, but I can see Kobe Byrant narrowing the gap some next year. LeBron is the best all-around but not the clutch go-to guy like Dirk is. Rose and Howard are the best little guy and big guy in the game respectively. Chris Paul is the best pure point guard, and you can debate that he is better than Rose. I was considering D-Will in the top 10 but his teams haven’t really done well recently and he is signed with a Turkish team so I am not sure he qualifies. Z Bo had a great finish to the year and has really played well the past two seasons. I like him at 9 but after Chris Paul I could go with Z Bo (9) and Blake Griffin (10) or other guys like Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, Rondo, or Steve Nash. I have Blake Griffin at 10 because he attacks the basket on offense and can get to the rim better than Love or LA. He is also a very good rebounder and a pretty decent ball handler. Griffin can also get up the floor faster than Love and could turn into a better defender (quicker, better athlete) than Love.
I don’t really see much difference in the guys between 1 and 7. Then I have Chris Paul who is always a sleeper MVP candidate if not a legit one. After those guys it drops a little bit but I have to go with Z Bo and Blake with Kevin Love and LA getting a lot of attention.

StF616ParticipantMine:
1.LeBron James – Statistically he’s the best, now if only he could win a ring. IMO he has already reached his prime and wont get any better seasons.
2.Kobe Bryant – LeBron is the best player, however kobe is the Greatest player (that is still playing right now) clutch, a winner, killer instinct.
3.Kevin Durant – Imo it will be LeBron vs Durant as the best player in the NBA for years to come. He gets good rebounds. He just needs to work on his defense (which he as great potential on 6’11 wing come on he could be great on defense, but he is still young and has not even reached his prime.)
4.Dwyane Wade – Getting older, but can also be in the top 3 maybe best shooting guard in the NBA. it depends on the person.
5.Dirk Nowitzki – Yes he’s good, but i dont like people overrating and getting caught up in the moment. DON’T JUMP THE BANDWAGON
6.Derrick Rose – Next great point guard in the NBA
7.Dwight Howard – Needs to develop post moves. Unless he does i dont see him truely dominating the NBA like any great center did.
8.Carmelo Anthony – Good scorer. has already reached his prime. Won;t get any better.
9.Chris Paul – Same case for chris paul. He needs to go to another team or get better teammates and start winning.
10.Russell Westbrook – I see him as Kevin Durant’s scottie pippen, the robin next to batman. Once he matures as a point guard. Makes better decisions i could see him getting better than rose.0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/12/2011 - 9:21am #569502

Memphis MadnessParticipantRW could make the jump this year, and I really hope he does. Amare is right there with Blake and Z Bo but Blake is better athletically and on the boards while Z Bo has a slightly better post game and is a better rebounder. If Z Bo plays like he did in the playoffs then he is a top 10 guy. If Amare plays like he did early last year then he is easily a top 10 guy.
I have Kevin Love below Z Bo because I think Z Bo is a better low post scorer and more clutch. Both are supbar on defense, both can hit the 3 a little bit. Love is a better outlet passer and is a slightly better rebounder but I am not sure there is that big of a diference. If Love improves his low post game and his defense, and if Z Bo starts to slip then I will put Love over Z Bo and maybe even Blake. To me, to be a Top 10 guy you have to be a franchise guy so that is one reason why LA isn’t in my top 10. Going on playoffs, Z Bo is in there and Blake Griffin is obviously a franchise-type talent. But you can make a case for Amare due to his awesome offense and the way he really put the Knicks on his back earlier in the year.
Carmelo is a great player but his teams haven’t really done well in the playoffs. He is probably in that 10-20 range that has some really great players but not Franchise Guys on Legit Contenders. Others in this list are Love, LA, Russell Westbrook, Rajon Rondo, D-Will (if he doesn’t play in Turkey), Steve Nash, and Amare (could be a top 5-10 guy if he starts the year hot). My last two guys in this range would be Manu and Pau Gasol. Very good players and great 2nd options on contenders, but maybe not a premier franchise guy.
I am not sure that anyone moves up into the Top 20 this year like Z Bo, LA, and Kevin Love moved into the Top 20 last year. If Golden State gets into the playoffs somehow (I think that the last spot will be up for grabs as the Hornets will probably miss the playoffs) then Monta Ellis or Steph Curry could get into the Top 20. If the Kings make a major move up the Western Conference standings I can see Tyreke Evans getting consideration especially if he averages something like 22-6-6.
