Just hype and the way Kawhi is playing is helping him… I still think Ball and Fultz are more franchise changing players. Jackson is a more Jimmy Butler/Kawhi player.. We will see tonight when he plays though, heck of a player

Is Kawhi not a franchise player???? Jackson’s placement as a potential #1 overall pick is justified. Before the season began he was #1 on many draft boards.  His jumpshot has improved and he’s playing with confidence and intensity that you want in a wing player.  He’s a great defender, passer, and he’s shown that he can create shots for himself in the half court.  His "hype" is justified by his production.

Yeah saying he’s not a franchise changing player and then comparing him to Kawhi seems kinda backwards. Kawhi took over the Spurs and bridged the gap between the Tim Duncan era and the future without missing a step

And Jimmy Butler is a really, really good player too that’s stuck in a horrible situation. Either of those guys would be worthy of a #1 pick (but especially Kawhi)

Hes #1 in my mock draft as well. The biggest thing Ive noticed him change is his decision making. He no longer hesitates or second guesses his decisions and he is taking what the defence gives him and creating offense efficiently. He used to second guess and pass up open shots or make wild shots/plays but he has progressed and fast. Hes playing very smart and can effect the game in so many ways. Thats why I threw out the Kawhi Leonard comparison. He has all the tools you could want from a wing and at the same time he always makes the smart play and attacks the defence at thier point of weakness. Defensively he is a nightmare and he doesnt take plays off or look to run up his stats.

When I think about how everyone was salivating at Wiggins potential I absolutely think Jackson has more upside then him. This is coming from an extremely bias Canadian team Canada megafan.

Canada I had the same feeling looking at him playing for Kansas. It’s no question who the leader of that team is in Mason and he’s going to have the ball 80 percent of the time because he makes plays and averages 20. Before the season I wondered what Jacksons numbers would look like.

From the beginning of the season he more or less was trying to fit in and now you see him really filling in his role. As far as his game I’ve been somewhat surprised with how easily he moves around the court with the ball in his hand. I heard somebody compare Andrew Wiggins to Dr. J on here last year, but this guy reminds me of him even more.

It’s a grace that he has that’s effortless. I think it was the 2nd round when he just had the ball in his hand like he was about to make a scoop layup and he was still on his second step before jumping. He sort of just guided it in the hoop like he does it all of the time. All of the announcers were startled like, “what was that?” Then he went from one side of the rim and did a little imitation of that Dr. J statue of liberty layup from one side of the rim and laying it in on the other side.
The only questions are his shot looks funny a little bit and he could tighten his handles. He makes a fair amount of his jumpers though.

Honestly I assumed it was just a team need thing. If Boston ends up with the #1 pick, I couldn’t see them taking Ball when they already have one of the league’s best PGs in Thomas. I could maybe see a scenario where they take Fultz and have him play SG, but that feels unlikely. That leaves three options:

    1) Take Jackson first and groom him and Jaylen Brown to be your long-term wing players.

    2) Trade down for a hybrid forward like Isaac or another PF (Markkanen, Leaf, etc)

    3) Trade out of the draft entirely

I think out of those options, I like the prospect of taking Jackson the best.

I think Lonzo and IT could actually coexist well offensively, but they’d get absolutely torched all day on defense.

If I’m a Celtic fan or Brad Stevens I’d be salivating at the thought of adding Jackson on defense along with AB, Smart, Brown, and Crowder, and he’d be a good secondary playmaker to IT (if he’s even still there) so that Smart can make his transformation and go full Tony Allen

Jackson playing bad this game. Not assertive at all. No handle and can’t create offense smh. I assume Ball or Fultz will be moved back to # 1. Brooks killing Jackson

I think it depends on who’s drafting where. If Boston gets the 1st pick then drafting Jackson would be like drafting  a Jaylen Brown clone. Ball makes no sense for Boston because of our abundance of guards. Fultz would be the pick for Boston (unless we trade him for a franchise player. If LA  picks first I can see the temptation to draft Ball even though they already have Russell.  Now if PHX gets the first pick then Jackson might be a possibility especially if they think  that he has more upside than Warren. Yes Jackson is a kwahi Leonard type. But Leonard is part of a GREAT organization. Does Jackson have the work ethic and desire to be great like Kwahi has? That’s the unknown with Jackson. So taking him #1 imo is more of a gamble than Ball or Fultz

I wish he wasn’t playing PF for Kansas.  Would like to see him out on the perimeter.  Most definitely a skill he will need to complete his all around game…that and scoring more than 10.

because Boston holds the Nets pick and they need a point guard like a hole in the head.  Same for the Suns – both could use a 3.  There is no clear #1 in my book and this is a draft where you pick more based on need inside the Top 10.  Is Ball better than Fox ?  Or Dennis Smith ?

With all the PGs in the draft and Boston have a loaded back court plus Suns and Lakers having a number of good young players there, add in the Philly Siummons point forward idea and where all the PGs go in the draft does make us wonder.

But apart from Boston all these teams are legit lottery teams so we cannot really look for reasons for them not taking BPA as often we do.

The Knicks are currently 6th on mock boards, so I’ll be interested to see what they do especially if they move up.

Also Lakers with Magic Johnson working out all those PGs talk about auditioning before a master.

Part of what makes Kawhi special is his relentless work ethic and ability to get better. Its why he is the player he is today. Tough to characterize that in a scouting report. So I wouldn’t saying being like Kawhi on the court is enough to push him over the other guys. Theres been lots of athletic wings with questionable jumpshots that end up being role players.

The potential legit top 3 in this draft

Reasoning for why Jackson may have jumped them…

Futlz didn’t make the tournament…Therefore their is less footage on him and the fact he couldn’t guide his team to the tournament is slightly worrying for some possibly…”Most franchise(there is the odd exception)” players can drag scrubs/avarage players at least to the sweet 16/elite 8. He still will be a top 4 pick but if you are looking for a quality player/ safe pick Futlz isn’t a horrible pick at 1.

Ball- Was banged up  and this may have affected his play but at least the guy played through it which may appeal to some coaches/teams…The only real knock on him is maybe the defense as fox lit him up both times and there are pleanty of guards like him in the NBA. Does Ball have the tools to be a two way player definitely does, but the coach will have to make sure he does it as he has been allowed to be more of a one way player for far too long…

Then this leads us to Jackson. The reason he may have jumped so high is some mocks is this: He seemed to be a perfect team 1st guy who looks like he has a better TWO WAY potential vs the rest of top 3, his offensive game grew a little/improved and he has that potential word mixed with height and length to be compared to Wiggins and Kawhi both who are deemed to be a franchise or one of the main 3 guys you can build around…The only slight blemish is the car accident he had-apparent damage and run which may worry some teams…

So it really comes down to how much of a risk you can take on the number 1 pick: if low risk Futlz and ball make sense as their floor is probably better than  Jacksons, but if you can afford a slight risk Jackson then Jacksons ceiling may appeal to them and you may look you a lot better if he reaches it.

I’ve said it quite a few times how high I am on Josh Jackson.

I have had him number 1 on my mock for the past month or so when all the sheep had Fultz

Number 1 could one of 4-5 legit ways due to Fit, Need or How much of risk you want to take

1)Ball if they need a pure PG.

2)Fultz if they want a combo guard/a player who can possibly play with/without the ball…

3)Jackson if they want that combo forward/Wing

4)Taytum if they want that Jabari/Danny Granger/Otto porter/Battier pick SF/small ball forward all who went top 3 bar Granger…

5)Wild cards: D Fox(U.K pg) or an international player there is limited info on the net about but is balling…

      1) could end up going number 1 if Suns,Kings(if trade both their 76ers pick and pelicans pick for it),Dallas,Knick/Lakers(if they luck onto number 1). The rest not so much due to having pretty good PGs/ball dominent players

      2) Could go number 1 to all bar maybe the lakers as the have Russell who is to similar to Futlz so it makes very little sense to draft him…But I still could see him working if he went there if you believe that back court could work…

3)Fits everyone bar Lakers due to Ingram who is the same build and same position…

      4) Fits all teams but 76ers maybe but that is only if Simmons is your SF not Point forward as taking Taytum number 1 would make no sense if Simmons is your SF…
