Greg Oden is probably one of my favorite players, it’s been hard to see him be injured for so long/have such crappy luck. Some team is going to give him a shot next year, hopefully a team with a better medical staff than Portland (also did a great job with Brandon Roy, way to go). Here’s some places I could see him going: 

1) Thunder/Heat/Mavs. Each of these teams have a lot in common: they’re title contenders, deep teams, and…they have a hole bigger than the Gulf of Mexico at the 5. Oden may be looking for more money than these teams can offer, but I’m sure each of these teams would love to give him a shot. I have them tied at #1, but I give OKC the advantage because they have the best ability to free up cap space. I can’t rule out Miami or Dallas, because they may be good enough to make Oden want to play for less money.

2) Phoenix. They’ve worked wonders for Grant Hill’s career, maybe they can do the same for Oden. Yeah, Phoenix is rebuilding and has Gortat starting, but Oden would need limited playing time to get back into playing shape anyways.

I personally would love to see him as a Timberwolf…but then again, they DO have Kahn running their team, so it’s not gonna happen. XD

all due respect to oden, but who would sign him? He’s not even worth taking a flyer on at this point. His knees are the equivlent of an 80 yr old man. He is a walking injury and thats the truth. He has probably around 15 million from his playing days, call me crazy but i think life after basketball is pretty bright for him

supposedly have one of the best training staffs in the NBA. Bringing the big guy and Eric Gordon home will be on their minds this offseason. I’d like to see Gordon get some mins this year for NO to see where his knee is at. Re-sign Hibbert and Hill, and sign Oden for $2.5m/1yr, and Gordon for $9-10m per. Good health and a little luck would put them in the conference title chase.

 I don’t even think he could play until about half way through next years season if he will be able to play at all. And I don’t think Oden cares about getting a ring with a title contender at this point in his career. Thats mostly veterans would have had a long career and want a ring. At this point he doesn’t know how much he will be able to play and will sign for the biggest pay check he can get.

IF the Pacers offer Gordon a $9-10 million contract, the Hornets will definitely match that. I mean, they offered him around that much just not too long ago.

I definitely think Bird will take a look at Oden and try to bring him home. IF he’s going to get healthy, what better place to do it than his home state.

Oden doesnt seem like a bad guy but he has "ALWAYS’ had injury problems. The first half of college, he shot left handed because of wrist injury,  when he tried out for the team, he was out of breath and had bulging disc in his back, he couldnt even finish the summer league because he needed his tonsils out.

I remember an article about Durant during the combine about" how he couldnt press even one rep"  I was like if someone passes on him because of that, then they know nothing about basketball.  Combine means nothing

Maybe Portland were told Oden will never play again…And Oden havent come to conclusion that he”l never play again..If he’s healthy,teams will go after him like NFL teams are going after Peyton Manning…Miami tried to sign him last summer,he’ll fit in in a number of places,if he’s healthy…But this last setback might be the end for him…

Phoenix with their medical staff would be a logical place for Oden to look to revive his career especially if Robin Lopez moves on. The Pacers also have the Kevin Pritchard connection so could be in the running for him.

But realistically I think that Greg would need to get fit and prove it during a trial period to be offered any deal of length. I could well see Oden returning to college and moving on with his life if he has any more setbacks.

He has already expressed interest in playing for the Pacers, NBA.com says. That’d be a good place for him anyways, somewhere he can get support if things don’t get better, and playing wise he would never have to log large minutes with Roy Hibbert becoming a very good Center.

They need some size to rebound and block shots. Catch some easy ones from Rondo and dunk them. Really nothing to lose, not like they have to give anything up or over pay him.

Oden’s camp needs to gather up the best doctor’s money can buy. Call Kobe’s German specialist. Go to Alabama and see Dr. Andrews. I mean, they need the best of the best.

Because something isn’t right. Based on all reports, they’ve done just about every test on Oden and he’s fine. They’ve checked his bone density, blood, etc, etc. His ligaments, patella tendon, mensicus, etc are fine. There’s nothing wrong with him.

I think the broken patella was a freak injury, but there’s something wrong with his articular cartilage since this injuries keep happening out of nowhere. There’s got to be some sort of inbalance in his body or something genetic maybe that’s causing this. Based on the reports, his articular cartilage injury is very small… Like the size of a pinky fingernail. That’s what leads me to always think he can come back strong. These injuries aren’t career ending, just the rehab to get back is a b*tch.

Maybe Greg does need to get healthy, go away, decide what he wants to do and forget about basketball for a bit. We know he’ll keep himself in good shape, so if he wanted to return provided he was sound then he could but don’t worry about playing, give the injuries time and if all goes well then see what offers are there.

Greg is still on crutches I believe so he’s not going to go onto a roster any time soon but come training camp time if he is anywhere near being ready to resume training he’ll surely get offers.

But as Cheyene says above he has made several million from his NBA contracts and he never seems to be the sort of guy who would waste his money and with his good attitude I could see him making a success of his life whatever he chooses to do. The last thing he wants to do is to end up walking with a stick or worse for the rest of his life, he is only 24 so could maybe have another 60 plus years to enjoy by which time he may be as old as he looks.

Agent: Oden wants to play again, eyes hometown Pacers

The 7-foot center was limited to just 82 games by injuries after the Portland Trail Blazers took him over Kevin Durant with the first selection in the 2007 draft. Portland waived the former No. 1 overall pick Thursday after an injury-plagued five-year run in which he averaged just 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots. He recently underwent his third microfracture knee surgery, the second on his left knee, ending his season.

"He feels bad for Portland and the team, more than anything, more than he did for himself," Oden’s agent, Mike Conley Sr., said Friday. "He felt he could have made an impact, and he knows they were counting on him."

Oden’s knee problems have drawn comparisons to Sam Bowie, the injury-plagued post the Blazers took ahead of Michael Jordan in 1984. Bowie played in 76 games as a rookie but appeared in just 63 games over the next four seasons because of injuries. In all, he had five operations. That history has made Oden’s situation a particularly sore topic for the Trail Blazers, who also have had to deal with Brandon Roy’s premature retirement due to injury.

"It is kind of closing the chapter on Greg Oden," Blazers interim general manager Chad Buchanan said. "Between Brandon Roy, Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge, we had kind of built the team around those three. We’ve lost Brandon to retirement, and we’ve lost Greg to injury — and we have nothing to show for it. We don’t have an asset, we don’t have a draft pick, we don’t have a player. And that’s hard to come back from."

Oden isn’t quite ready to give up yet. Conley says his client is recovering in his hometown of Indianapolis. Oden has been on crutches since the Feb. 20 procedure and is expected to remain on them for another five weeks.

He said Oden briefly contemplated ending his career.

"That at some point could become a reality, and you have no control over it, so you have to think about it," Conley said. "He’s one of the strongest willed guys I know. He’s come back from every injury he’s had 100 percent before another one happened. It took a lot of focus and dedication to come back from these injuries, and he’ll come back from this one. I have no doubt about that."

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Oden’s latest injury is that all seemed well.

He thought he might be able to play this season, but a checkup before the start of training camp in December reportedly revealed concerns about a non-weight-bearing ligament in the left knee. He was undergoing a minor procedure last month to clear out debris in his left knee when the surgeon said there was additional damage that required microfracture surgery. Oden had been jumping and starting to feel close to normal before the latest setback.

"It’s very difficult for him," Conley said. "I think he’s in a better place now than he was when he first learned about this new injury."

Conley said Oden is contemplating a return to school during rehab — he played one college season at Ohio State. He shouldn’t have too much trouble finding employment if he recovers. Several teams showed interest in him in March, despite knowing he wouldn’t be immediately available.

"Now that he finally has the ability to take over his rehab himself, he’s just going to focus on getting through the surgery and doing the things to try to avoid the things happening in the future," Conley said. "When he’s healthy and he’s back doing the things he knows he can do on the floor, then we’ll look at NBA options and teams at that point."

Oden will be an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers on Saturday. Conley said he fielded at least one call from a team during the waiver period.

Conley said Oden has expressed interest in playing for the hometown Pacers after he recovers.

"I know Greg would love to play in Indy," Conley said. "I know that’s something he’d definitely be interested in. But in my conversations with Greg, we’re not even thinking or talking about basketball right now."

 I still say he needs to go to Phoenix to get healthy. If he wants to be a Pacer, he can just sign with them after a year or two in Phoenix.
