ropeParticipantSeriously, take a look at their roster – especially up front – and compare it to the other top tier programs. Has Roy Williams just lost it on the recruiting trail or is there another explanation?

ropeParticipantWould it possibly be that UNC hasn’t embraced the one and done / short train to the NBA? Like you say, Calipari could be a lot of it on his own. If UK and UNC used to get 2 – 3 blue chippers a year and now UK get 5 or 6, that shrinks the pool right there. There are also other schools that have managed to established a recruiting presence that really weren’t in play 10 years ago. I am still mystified by Baylor’s ability to continuely be in the mix for big recruits, given no more than the program has done.

Anton123ParticipantIf PJ Hairston is eligible to play I think their roster looks pretty good
PG M. Paige (N. Britt)
SG McDonald
SF PJ Hairston (Tokoto)
PF McAdoo (B. Johnson, I. Hicks)
C J. James (Meeks, Hubert)They have three 5 star commitments for 2014 already too, I think North Carolina is fine.

MalcolmxParticipantThey have a ton of All american’s on their roster. They are just not the top tier one’s but they still have a few.

SiggyParticipantIn the front court I see 2 five star and 3 four star recruits. What’s the problem?

The8thDeadlySinParticipantKids have realized that they can go other places and still head to the NBA because of the tv coverage.. Once upon a time, UNC was on TV more than any other school. That has drastically changed. Players can still get amazing exposure at other schools.

TarHeelRavenParticipantDear lord. Roy Williams has not lost his ability to recruit. Carolina’s last 2 recruiting classes have not brought in the top five star talent that fans are accustomed to seeing in Chapel Hill. Last years class with Paige, Britt, Brice Johnson and Joel James was a foundation class for Roy. This year, Roy did miss out on some top recruits and it was surprising to me. Roy really wanted Julius Randle, but he obviously ended up going to Kentucky. What is most surprising to me is that Carolina has not had a shooting guard commit in the past 2 classes. This is why Rashad Vaughan is an important get for Roy next year. As people have noted, Roy has 3 five star recruits coming in next year in Theo Pinson, Joel Berry and Justin Jackson. UNC will be fine.
