NYKnicksuperFanParticipantA couple of years ago Jerome James then playing for Seattle had a very good first round outplaying Tim Duncan, the Knicks saw this and spent giant cash only to be very dissapointed, another instance this time through a trade when Jason Richardson led Golden State to a huge upset over Dirk and the Mavs, then Charlotte traded their lottery pick for him hoping he would finally lead them to the playoffs only to be let down
This year guys like Trevor Ariza, Chris(Birdman)Anderson, and Hedo Turkelu(Player option) are all having fantastic postseasons and are all potential free agents
Do you guys think they are deserving of big bucks?, Ariza and birdman will want to be payed like starters and Hedo will want to get All-star cash, If they are deserving where will they land? And on the flip side guys like Lamar Odom are FAs and are having bad postseasons would you still pay Odom the salary you would have payed him before the playoffs started?

NYK423Participantof them will get the cash they want. This is a bad economy and players wont be over paid. I think both ariza and birdman can fetch the midlevel exception. Both can be starters and the main problem with james was that he was only good for the playoffs that year and never stretch like that in his season and probaly his career. Both ariza and birdman have proven to be quality starters throughout this year and their careers (when they’re not getting busted for pot)
Hedo is a different situation, like u said wants to b paid like an all-star. With only detroit okc, and memphis having cap room i doubt he is going to get the money he wants because he does not fill a need any of those teams
Odom was going to take a hit no matter what. he is in a similar situation as hedo. He mite have to take the midlevel exception or resign with the lakers for about 7-8 mil a year.

rtbtParticipantI though this was a forum on the NBA Draft. The last time I checked, Free Agents weren’t in the draft. Doesn’t this thread belong in the NBA forum?

ZKParticipantwill be vastly overpaid by someone this off season. Every year there is one guy who is overvalued, this year its him. Another possibility is Birdman.

gatorheelsParticipantAriza should get a descent contract but nothing spectacular. He is a pretty good small forward but not elite.
Birdman just can’t score good enough to get a big payday but he will find a team willing to pay him descent. I don’t think he is a starter in the NBA yet.
No way in hell would I pay Hedo All-Star cash. He is solid and causes matchup problems but I don’t think he can step up and lead a team. He will get paid but no the huge payday he is hoping for.
Gortat has looked impressive in the playoffs. However, you have to remeber he is only playing limited minutes. I don’t think he can be a full time starter at Center.
Odom still has talent and a team will pay him more than he deserves. Personally I think he is overrated. He has a ton of potential but just never seems to live up to the hype.

llperezI was checking out their situation, and it is not good as far as free agents. I would very much like to see them re-sign Odom, Ariza, and Shannon Brown. However, they are over the salary cap even before they try and sign any of those guys. They will receive some relief in 2010 when both Fisher and Morrison free up some space. But I hope they can keep the 3 free-agents together this year. Odom has already said that the Lakers would get a home team discount.

rtbtParticipantWhat does this have to do with the NBA Draft? Why don’t you move this thread to the NBA?
