After an extremely inconsistant year with a bunch of clashing personalities and still a strong run through the East the Pacers essentially replaced Stephenson and Turner with Stuckey and Miles. Some say they degressed and lost talent and others argue they got rid of negative attitudes and got better fits next to Paul George.

Now Paul George breaks his leg and it looks nasty. This is terrible and I hole the best for this young man. He could be out for the whole season possibly a season and a half or more. Hopefully he comes back the same. I bet they wish they had resigned Stephenson now for whatever amount he was asking.

Obviously the plan as of now is in limbo depending on how long PG is out. Tanking this season is not an option with the new lotto rules potentially kicking in and a likely weaker draft class. With that being said Indiana should continue competing and maintain their winning culture. How do they go about doing that?

    Also a couple notes.

If the Pacers lose 50 games and Vogel gets fired I would lose respect for that management.

Team USA needs to cover any paycheques that PG will get from his 5yr 100mil contract. I think this will create alot of tension in international play for NBA players. These should be treated as contractual rentals as apposed to volounteering to "serve" your country.

I dont think Hill, West, and Hibbert can carry this team into the playoffs although in past years Indiana has shown alot of heart and fought through adversiry so anythings possible.

They are lost their best two players so far and even with the terrible Eastern Conference I am not sure if they are a playoff team or not because I am not seeing it. With James going back home the Pacers could have kept their team the exact same and might have been favored to head to the finals with the uncertainly of Rose still. Going from that to the lottery is extremely rough. I wish Paul George the best.

Pull a Philly. Break it up man. You just lost a major asset in Lance for nothing and PG is lost for at least the year. Maybe wait until the deadline but David West, Hibbert and George Hill have value. Get some young prospects for those guys. Portland might give up McCollum & T-Rob or a pick for Hibbert. West and Hill could be useful to contenders who can part with some youngins. Tank it for a top 5 pick and go for Mudiay, Okafor, Oubre or Alexander. This injury gives them an excuse to blow it up and start over. Not sure people will agree, especially the fan base, Larry or Donnie Walsh, but if they have the cajones, they should do it. Or just meddle trying to make an 8 seed.

This talk of blowing this team up is crazy. Yes, their finals hopes this year are over with but this team can still get to the playoffs. They get 5.3$ million dollars to sign another guy to fill PGs roster spot per the injured player clause in the newest collective bargaining agreement. Obviously no one they sign for that much is gonna replace what PG did but it helps a little. It’s one year gone. I could understand if by the trade deadline they are looking at the 7-8 seed or maybe missing out in the playoffs then you start looking to move your older guys like David West and Scola, maybe even George hill since you need an upgrade there anyway. With the prospect of the new draft rules evening out the lottery a bit, being the last team out of the playoffs is ok. Also, maybe getting a couple good young players or a pick in return for West and Hill then you get PG back in 2015-2016, I think they’ll be ok. Also, I know this is maybe a crazy idea or not realistic but maybe with PG out and Lance gone Roy Hibbert finally steps his game up. He’s never been solely relied on for offense because of those other guys, especially when Granger was around and healthy but he has a good offensive skill set and great touch for his massive size. Maybe this year with added offensive responsibility and literally no pressure or expectations to win anything this year, he’ll step up.

100% agree.  They aren’t going anywhere without George.  Trade the assets you have.  Clear some cap space for next year.  I’d definitely move Hill, West, and Hibbert.

    ^^^what he said.

Get some cap space, draft picks, and young prospects, and sell your potential Free Agent signings on pairing up with George when he comes back.

And if Indiana does have a really bad year, they could benefit by drafting a really good player to pair up with Paul George when he does return. The most memerable scenario from a similar situation would be when the Spurs sucked cuz David Robinson got hurt, ended up with the #1 pick in the lottery and then drafted Tim Duncan.

I was going to say Robinson misses most of a season and then comes back with Duncan in the team with him.  You beat me to that.

Pacers might as well trade away West and Scola, they can help contenders but right now the Pacers are not a contender.

Sign Shawn Marion and try to keep hope alive or trade Hibbert for a good  SF & decent C.

When an injury like this happens playing for a national team in soccer, there is usually some sort of exhibition game that goes in which most of the proceeds go towards the franchise as compensation. It doesn’t appear that something like that is plausible in this situation, and I wonder if the Pacers will seek compensation from Team USA.

The Pacers will at least get an injured player’s exception for George so they can get somebody at the MLE level.

It looks like Chris Copeland will be getting a significant boost in minutes as of now.

They could sign young players in need of a change of scenery like Jordan Hamilton or Chris Singleton to give them some chances as well.

Only way this season can be decent for Indy is by getting some kind of special exception for George and using that money to lure in Bledsoe. Highly unlikely but it could be enough to compete in the East. Though I think they are better off going the route of the Spurs when David Robinson was hurt
