BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantJerry Colangelo is now the Special Advisor to the Managing General Partner and Chairman of Basketball Operations, which is quite the title. Really, babysitter for Sam Hinkie does not have the same gravitas.

Magic JordanParticipantIs this the NBA intervening? The fix is in. Look for the 76ers to secure the 1st and 4th picks. Cohersiangelo is only there to make sure no injured players or Euros are taken.
SAMGPCBO….. now that we know the title exists…. is he the best SAMGPCBO in basketball?

MeloSwagParticipantYou gotta think he’s there to turn their assets into something tangible I’m not sure they trust Hinkie fully with the basketball side of things . Team building, player evaluation, etc,

negguaryParticipantIm a huge supporter of Heinke, but his lack of communication and clarity around Jahlil Okafor’s suspension was a major error. He put Brett Brown in a weird position to answer questions he shouldn’t have had to answer. I think it has more to do with things like that and Jerry’s pull with big names as opposed to anything else because he has set us up pretty well.

NBAjunkie81Participanttheir fans & the organization b/c the previous regime headed by Doug Collins just absolutely destroyed the present & especially the Future of that team……
I think Hinkie has made some really smart moves as well….. But the silence regarding the Embiid injury & now Okafor’s issues left a Terrible impression…..
This is a major American sports franchise & the man in charge of the organization after Major incidents refuses to communicate w/ the fans through the press….
I understand they want to keep their moves close to the vest…. But they do Not even give a Press Release….. It’s a wall of silence & it makes them look like a mickey mouse organization……
I don;t claim to know what this move means but Colangelo at least gives them a very well known, savy NBA exec who can at least do spin coontrol with the press…….

ballislyfe25ParticipantThe article mentions Colangelo’s position as the head of USA basketball and his postive rapport with many of the best players in the league through Team USA.
I think this is the most underrated part of the hire. Colangelo gives them a trusted and experienced front office member who can deal with the agents and players that Hinkie has turned off. Great move by the Sixers.

RUDEBOY_Participantyeah,negguary nailed it. alot of owners were complaining to silver to do something about the way the 76’ers were being run.silver responded by putting 1 of major league sports best ever front office men to oversee the organization.
Report: NBA owners lobbied Adam Silver to do something about 76ers http://wp.me/p14QT0-3c2m via @basketballtalk

Gold ChainHard to imagine a more fun job for the next year. 76ers can be a .500 team next year.

markfitz14ParticipantThis is bull Shit! I would be pissed if I was Hinkie. The leauge wants to mess with my plan. TRy and force me to alter my ideas. Everybody has to remember this would have looked a lot different if Embid hadn’t gotten injured again. He would have played last year and people would have said the 76ers a a young up and coming team. Now its Hinkie just wants to tank. Well duh he had to again this year. This is the last year though. Oakafor is someone to build around. Tons of picks coming next draft. Covington is pretty well established now. They could even trade around picks/players to get a good PG next year. Now if it happens they will say oh this new guy made it happen. Ridic I say, Hinkie would have done it next year anyway.

220ParticipantWill Colangelo’s decisions supersede Hinkie’s and the owners? If not then he’ll just be a knowledgeable asset for the team. Plus the 76ers need a front office person who will talk to the press and public on what’s happening with the organization rather than leaving the head coach to do it.
Now I wonder if the owners are at all sick of the losing or concerned with the rumor that no free agents want to deal with Hinkie. If that’s the case then Hinkie should have reason for concern. It’s not hard to imagine that the owners might be feeling nervous that the team has shown little improvement and that there are only a couple of NBA quality rotational players.

MatosParticipantWe all know the Lottery is rigged. I dont see the NBA allowing the Sixers to get two picks in the top 5. Not gonna happen. Clearly they (along with the other owners) are not happy with Philly’s tanking, so promoting the success of tanking (by allowing the Tanker to get two top-5 picks) is not gonna happen. They may even let two teams leapfrog the sixers in the lottery.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantNothing screams fixed like Minnesota, Cleveland, Cleveland, New Orleans, and Cleveland winning the lottery in the previous five runs. They must have those Danny Ocean weighted balls thing going. Who needs LeBron when you have a fixed lottery, right Cleveland?!?!

MatosParticipantI remember posting my predictions for the lottery the year of John Wall draft. On the morning of the lottery I made the claim that the NBA would give DC the number 1 pick because they knew Wall was going first and that they wanted Arenas outta there (due to the controversy he had with the guns). That was the fall of Arenas. I also said that the sixers would get the second pick.
On Anthony Davis’ year, New Orleans had a new owner. What a great gift than to give a new owner Anthony Davis. I also made that prediction.
And we all know about the Cavs’ luck.
Ridiculous. I’ll make my prediction for this year once the season is over.

HitsterParticipantI’d be interested to know what Philly’s owner thought of this decision if the league pushed for it. Philly’s owner would surely want them to do well as a struggling team would reduce the value of his investment.
A very good point by Ballisfye above, having Jerry on board gives the 76ers access to all of Jerry’s contacts and experience when it comes to trying to add any FA,

MatosParticipantI dont think Jerry is making any big name FAs come to the sixers. No offense to him but they aren’t attracting any FAs unless:
A) They put out an offer that tops Anthony Davis’ contract – and for a player not nearly worth it of course
B) They’re a legitimate playoff contending team
