valentineAccording to some wasn’t this guy suppossed to be doing alot more? He’s averaging 6pts and 5reb. His career average is 6pts and 5 reb so as far as rebounds and points he has gotten worst because he’s getting almost 10 more min a game then his career average. He still has a low defensive basketball IQ hence the 3.5 fouls a game. The good thing is he’s blocking 3 more shots then his career average. It’s still early but u doubt much changes especially with Gilbert and Josh Howard yet to come back. Another case of not taking summer leauge so serious when NBA vets kill in it. If i’m not mistaken ibaka is winning in the early debate about who’s better (10pts 8reb 3blks) also foul prone

butidonthavemoneyI think it’s safe to drink your own juice, but most people only do it out of desperation when they’re lost in the desert.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI said this before when you see Tyson Chandler you’re watching what McGee will be..Except McGee has a hook shot and is a superior shot blocker..But if he really wants to make that next step..He has to get more physical and stop with those finesse Bull Shyyt A$$ Ballerina moves and go up Strong..
Expect about 12 points & 8 rebounds with 2.7 blocks a game from him this season..

stanford hoopsNope not to early when he’s shown the same stuff that he’s shown the past too years. Just like the clippers have shown they are still the clippers. He still is limited on offense like always. Out of those 7ppg he’s averaging I wonder how many of thoses are open dunks

WizardofOzParticipantIf youu actually watched every sing;e game he’ve played so far, you would realize that stats don’t tell the story. The reason why his stats are so low is because he gets in foul trouble early. He picks up cheap fouls and has to sit for a long time, and for some reason, in their 2nd game vs. the Hawks, Flip refused to bring Javale in for most of the 4th quater. In the Orlando game, his defense was terrible, but in the two other games, I’ve found his play to be quite solid. In te two games after Orlando, he’s played solid defense, and has done what he’s supposed to do on onfense. I think his play will pick up as the season goes along, IF he somehow finds a way to stay out of foul trouble.

HitsterParticipantMcGee is near the top of the blocking charts, he’s picking up more rebounds with his increased minutes so to say he isn’t filling the stats column after 3 games is very harsh. His ppg in my mind is almost irrelevant as he is the 5th option on the team and his need is on the defensive end.

stanford hoopsHe’s not getting more rebounds with more min. He’s averaging the sane amount as his career average
And I’ve watched every wiz game with my leauge pass and or website and he looks no different to me this year then he did last year and I doubt he scores much more when Gil comes back. The coach prob didn’t put him back in because he is a liability on defense late in a game because he is foul prone. Just because you’re a fan of his doesn’t mean he gets a pass for not playing up to what you thought he would play. The fact of the matter is he’s very athletic and a very good shot blocker but he’s not very skilled yet. And a starting center getting 7 and 6 is not doing what you want him to do unless you’re the Miami heat. Can wizards fans honestly say they are content with what he’s doing? None of my friends who are huge wizards fans are. Mcgee isn’t happy with how he’s doing and feels he should be doing more. So does the coach. I may be mistaken but he’s putting up Joel Anthony/darko numbers. Are you really happy with that on a 1-2 team with a point guard who’s averaing 10ast and a starting shooting guard who’s injuried? Can’t put it all on the fouls because he’s averaging the same amount if fouls as last year but getting more min and putting up the same rebounding/scoring

IndianaBasketballParticipantMcGee WILL be very good eventually, but right now he’s mostly still potential. He’s raw.
Mr. 19134 was the main guy saying McGee would average double figure points and rebounds, and 2-3 blocks. It’s just not going to happen. He’s not a smart player and still doesn’t know how to play.

OhCanada-ParticipantMcGee is having the same problem Hibbert has had all his career, Amri Johnson is having, Marc Gasol cannot become a premiere Center because of it, DeMarcus Cousins would probally be a rookie of the year candidate if it wasnt for foul trouble. All these players have a habit of committing senseless fouls which keep them of the floor for extended periods. Other then this mental lapse I really like what Ive seen from McGee, he is still skinny and a liability at C, but he is wiry strong, extremely athletic, and he plays hard. His understanding of the game has increased dramatically, and his weak side shotblocking maybe second to none in the NBA. He had 7 blocks in one game already this year. The future is bright in Washington, McGee will one day lead the league in blocked shots, and Wall will one day lead the league in steals. Could even be this year…

All the players that were named (cousins, hibbert, ibaka, gasol) have shown to be better while being in foul trouble or have learned to foul less because of higher basketball IQs

IndianaBasketballParticipantMcGee is athletic, long and can dunk, but that’s about it right now. He has a few moves, but just doesn’t know how to use them. He’s very raw. It’s going to take him more time than people think. He’s not a smart basketball player.
Defensively, he tries to literally block everything. Big men have to know when to stay on their feet and just put their hands up. He also doesn’t hold his ground well. He’s thin chested.
He’s going to be good, but people need to lower their expectations this season. People did the same thing with Anthony Randolph last summer league.

OhCanada-ParticipantActaully I looked at his stats and he just isnt getting minutes…The game that he had 7 blocks was his best game and he had 5 personal fouls in 27 minutes. The other 2 games he averaged 21 minutes and 2 personal fouls.
I guess the blame lies on Sanders to give him minutes over Armstrong and Blatche. How is he supposed to play better if he doesnt have the confidence. If he stays on the floor he should be fine.

stanford hoopsHe’s not getting the minutes because he’s limited and others are smarter and do better when they are out there so they get the time. There’s a reason players don’t get minutes and it’s not because the coach doesn’t like him. Mentally he just doesn’t deserve more min. Like someone said u don’t just jump and try to block everything

HitsterParticipantSpecialist shotblockers often foul out in games but the really good defensive players stay on court and thus provide the difference. McGee has become the Wizards main defensive option early in his career and is having to learn almost on the job since Haywood was traded. He has to get away from trying to block everything as Stanford Hoops rightly says and the coaches need to help him refine his defensive game to give the team the pivot they need.
The PG position is now sorted, the scorers are there in all positions and so McGee has to become the defensive anchor for him and the team to progress otherwise the likes of Kevin Seraphin may be given a chance over him. If Coach Saunders can improve McGee’s defensive basketball IQ then the team will always be able to feed him baskets on offence as Wall can give him some tip ins and dunks etc thus to keep him interested and almost reward him for his defensive efforts.

OhCanada-ParticipantThink about it thou, McGee starts off the offseason polishing his game with his individual workout, then he probally plays in a small local league l;ike many players do, then he goes to another brand new team the Wizards Summer League, then he goes to Team USA and worksout with them and their players, then he fgoes back to individual and then he gears up with the Wizards. Thats alot of action and for him to truely get acustom to the Wizards game they will have to settle in.
I mean can you really say anyone other then Wall has been consistant. Everyone needs minutes to be productive and to learn and if Mcgee is going to learn how to position himself he is going to have to be on the court. Sanders has a couple guys in Booker, and Armstrong who are workaholics as well and if he doesnt give them minutes he is promoting errors that McGee and Blatche make. They will find a rotation everyone will settle in and McGee will play well. No matter what the stats say Ive seen with my own eyes he is a better player.

stanford hoopsI’m sorry that’s an excuse. Many players go through a bunch of different trainers and leauges. The fact is he’s still raw and average to below average on offense and low definsive IQ. Will he get better. In sure but he’s not where some on here like to think he is.

WizardofOzParticipantMcGee isn’t getting the minutes, but I’m sure it’s with reason. In the first game vs. Orlando, McGee made a stupid play on defense and Flip Saunders yelled at him, and McGee was basically bencehd for the whole game. He just isn’t that smart. In the second game vs. Atlanta, McGee got in foul trouble. He had gotten his 5th personal foul in the 3rd quarter, and Flip Saunders didn’t bring him in for the rest of the game. I think the Wizards lost the game vs. Atlanta because McGee wasn’t in. Yi played TERRIBLE defense late in the game. Now Flip, I know if someone is playing worse than somebody else, that you gotta reward the other player, but C;MON! This is supposed to be a rebuilding year where player development is very important. McGee does make some dumb plays, but you gotta let him play some more and coach him up so he can learn from his mistakes. But, I think that we can all agree that Javale McGee has low basketball I.Q..
I think the Wizards need to hire a big man coach. MAYBE Kevin McHale. Him & Flip had a great relationship in Minnesota, and the Wizards’ bigs need someone to teach them how to play in the post. McHale was a great low post guy, and I think he can teach McGee some moves. McGee is still very young, and has potential. If the Wizards get someone who can teach these bigs about low post offense, and when McGee gets stronger, it should be so easy for him to score because of his height and EXTREMELY long arms.
And one more thing, I’m getting tired of McGee getting so many goaltending calls. OK we get it, you can jump REALLY high.

Mr. 19134ParticipantI told ya’ll Ibaka was better.
But McGee will come around. He isn’t a very intelligent player tho. At last nights Sixers game when he got called for goaltending a shot that Turner took, he turned around and ran upcourt with a face of sour lemons. He was whiny all game and doesn’t appear to have it all upstairs. He was not switching fast enough and doesn’t hit the gaps fast enough for Wall to feed him the ball on offense.
He will eventually be averagin 12, 8 and 3 before this year is over tho.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantLack of a low post game and other things a bigs need. I remember seeing people predicting a 17-11-3 for this guy.
I did have him as a breakout guy and do expect him to have a solid season but more like 10, 9, 1.5 is realistic for him

HitsterParticipantWizard of Oz has probably hit it on the head, the Wizards do need a specialist big man coach who can work with Blatche, McGee, Yi and Seraphin and help them develop. The roster does not have an experienced big who can mentor the youngsters so someone like McHale could be an option as a frontcourt coach. Also has Sam Cassell helped to develop John Wall already I wonder?

HitsterParticipantWizard of Oz has probably hit it on the head, the Wizards do need a specialist big man coach who can work with Blatche, McGee, Yi and Seraphin and help them develop. The roster does not have an experienced big who can mentor the youngsters so someone like McHale could be an option as a frontcourt coach. Also has Sam Cassell helped to develop John Wall already I wonder?

stanford hoopsWhen is it not too early to say McGee should be playing better according to some?
7.3ppg 6.7reb 2.8blks 24min
last year
6.4ppg 4.1reb 1.7blks 16
its early yet Roy Hibbert has seemed to step up same with holiday, taj gibson, tony douglass
And its not like people can say they dont need him to step up considering that the wizards are 2-4
