Kawhi Leonard has his biggest game of the season in SDSU’s biggest game of the season. He had 16 points and 21 rebounds, setting the Mountain West conference tournament record for rebounds in a game. He was MVP of the tournament. He hit 8 straight free throws down the stretch to ice the game and ensure SDSU got the automatic bid in the tournament. Now, why did he get taken off of the 2011 mock draft where he was the 19th pick BEFORE his monster game?

i cant agree more with you
this has happened with other players too
also i have noticed the opposite happening ,for example a player is projected as a late first rounder and after 2-3 really bad games i see him in the next mock as a mid first rounder

He is only a freshman so maybe they think he will stick around until his JR year.

DanEboy: That’s what I was thinking, but then they actually put him on last weeks mock draft. That is why I’m confused. Why put him on the 2011 draft, then take him out AFTER his best game?

Stats are not everything. Talking to scouts about players readiness and evaluating a player’s skill level are just as important. While we definitely like Leonard (he wouldn’t have been put on the 2011 mock at 19 in the first place if we didn’t), he’s still very raw skill-wise (outside shooting, ball handling). Is he a borderline mid first rounder for 2011? Yes. Could he get there? Yes. Is he on the 2011 mock right now? No.

I understand his flaws, I just thought that was a very strange time to take him off of the mock draft after appearing for the first time last week. Usually, guys don’t get taken off after their best game of the season.

Anyways, I love how he plays. No other top prospect hustles as much as he does. I’m just hoping he does improve his shooting and ball-handling for next year, because I see him as a lottery pick if he’s able to do that.
