I give update here on Greek power forward / center Georgios Tsalmpouris, that I have talked about here for last few years now.

Tsalmpouris is now 20 years old, and he is like NCAA junior in USA classification system.

He has been recently measured as 7-2 tall in shoes, with 7-2 wingspan, and weight of 235 pounds.

He plays at both power forward and center positions, but in current time, he plays mostly as a power forward.

Now he is in Greek team AEK Athens, of the top level league in Greece, and also he plays in FIBA Basketball Champions League (3rd European league after EuroLeague and EuroCup). He also plays in the Greek national under age 21 league with the Under-21 team of AEK.

He is considered as best player now in Greek national under age 21 league.

In AEK senior men team, he is the 3rd string power forward of the team, and also plays some as a center.

At 7-2, he is a very good defensive player and shot blocker. He is very good in both man defense and team defense. He can guard the paint and rim well. Also, he is very good at covering on the perimeter, in covering switches, and in covering screen roll.

On offense, he has a low post game and can post on either side, and shoot with either hand. He also has a face up game, and a mid range jumper. Also he can shoot 3 points, with having deep NBA range and can be used as stretch 4 or stretch 5.

He also is a decent ball handler and passer, having ability even at 7-2 to do some ball handling and play making.

Anyway, here is a recent video of him in YouTube:

Is this the guy who averaged like 1 point per game for Iowa State?

I won’t pretend I know much about him but for someone turning 21 years old to be a third stringer on a Greek team and I’m assuming doesn’t get much game time at all as he is still playing in the Under 21 team he probably won’t become a household name.

    Good write up anyway.

3rd string in Greek League is very hard for any NCAA age player.

Dinos Mitoglou was Aris’ 3rd string power forward in Greek League, and played only 2 games all year – 2 months later he was a starter in the ACC conference.

The level is far above NCAA basketball.

Euro Basket — Is Tsalmpouris a better prospect that Sacramento’s Papagiannis?

No. He is more skilled on offense and better on defense than Papagiannis. But Papagiannis is much more dominant of a player.

It would be nice to mention some weaknesses too.
