Minnesota has traded the 9th pick and NCAA player of the year Trey Burke to the Utah Jazz in return for the 14th pick, Shabazz Muhammad and the 21st pick Gorgui Dieng. As a Jazz fan I love this trade for Utah. I think Burke fell lower than expected and the Jazz secured their pg of the future. What do you guys think about this trade and the expectations for the Jazz going forward?

The Jazz are rebuilding on the fly and made a great move getting the most NBA ready PG in the draft. Burke will be a great leader going forward and for a team that desperately needed a point guard it was well worth it to move the 14th and 21st picks.

It was a great move for Minnesota as well because they turned their 9th pick into two guys that can help them right away. If they want to make the playoffs next year they needed to add a wing that could score and Shabazz fits the bill. Dieng is also a guy that can contribute from day one blocking shots and rebounding. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting next to Love if Pekovic doesn’t resign.

Best move the timberwolves could have made once KCP was gone, it made sense for both teams once that happened.

Agreed. Shabazz mentioned in an interview that he would work on his ball handling in order to play the 2 at the next level. I think Rubio could make him look good.

Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors and Kanter…

Not a Jazz fan, but I’m loving that young core.

Like bankjung I was hoping they’d trade up for Burke but didn’t think it’d actually happen. I was hoping for Schroeder or MCW coming into today. They got maximum value for those 2 mid first rounders. Shabazz will start for Minny and I’d have wanted Dieng on my Jazz but Utah wins this trade. I’ve said they’re a franchise PG away from taking that next step and Burke is the only real franchise PG talent in the draft.

He’ll compliment Burks (Burke & Burks :/) in the backcourt and give that young team a leader to rally around. All the young guys are being thrust into the starting lineup after being stuck on the bench behind Millsap, Jefferson, and a bunch of role players who shouldn’t be re-signed, Burke has big game experience from last year’s NCAA Tournament run and can will this team, which is on the cusp of at least winning a few first round playoff games, to success.

The total best case scenario for my Jazz, I can’t wait to see how they pull the new starting 5 together. Give them some time to form chemistry, give Favors & Kanter time to develop, and they could become a 5-8 seed in the West. The rebuilding is done, just get some veterans like Calderon & Kyle Korver to teach the young guys. I’m psyched about this pick, as a Jazz fan I plan on ordering my Trey Burke jersey sometime this week 🙂

Great trade for both teams. Minnesota is legit with those two additions and Utah once again proves they are among the best organizations as far as management goes along with San Antonio. Burke, Hayward, Favors, and Kanter is a great core to build on.

Where is my dude who posted months ago that he wanted the Jazz to draft Trey Burke and photoshopped him with a Jazz Jersey on? Once Michigan made it so far in the tourny I posted there was no way he slipped low enough for the Jazz to grab him but I guess the Jazz wanted to shut me up. Great move for them.

Another low pick that they cashed all in on. Gobert is a project whose size is his only really developed “skill” right now, but if he can come over and be Mark Eaton 2.0 (just block shots), he could end up being Kanter’s longterm backup. I had them taking Gobert at #21 a few weeks ago and thought it’d be a solid fit. Erick Green was a good pickup for the Nugs too, he was one of my second round sleepers heading into the draft and now he’ll get to learn from Andre Miller and backup Ty Lawson when Miller retires. Either way, I’m loving the way Dennis Lindsey works on draft night, turning 3 mid round picks into 2 guys I had going in the lottery on my final mock.

What a great move by the Jazz. This will be such a fun team to watch. Can’t blame Minnesota for trading back but Utah made the perfect move for their current roster. They needed a good point guard, especially one that could shoot to compliment Burks and his slashing ability. Great tandem with their skill sets. Add in Hayward and the two big men and there is a lot of reason for optimism for Utah.

I know I’ll get negged for this, but I really don’t think he’s a “PG of the future” kinda guy. I respect Utah for taking the chance of giving away their two 1st round picks for what they hope will be their PG of the future, but I just don’t see him as being that kind of a player. And I think it was a great trade for Minnesota.

And I also don’t think Burke necessarily slipped. By the time today rolled around, it seemed that most had him going at 7 or 8 and he went 9. When I think of a slide, I think of someone like Franklin falling to the middle of the 2nd round.

When you start your phrase with I know I’ll get negged it usually isn’t a good sign…if the best PG in a draft full of good PGs isn’t a “point guard of the future” than what is?

They can’t all be Kyrie Irving.

I just don’t think he was the best PG in the draft. I don’t think he’ll ever be more than an average to below average starter in the NBA.

I really like Burke as a pro. I had him, dipo, mclemore and porter and my top tier guys.

I would not of blamed Orlando for taking him @ 2 thats how highly i think of him.

Burke and Alec Burks backcourt is gonna be confusing for the commentators….
