IF they could pull off who they wanted (Embiid) and a little Derrick Favors on the side, that would be crazy. However, if Embiid is off the board before 5. Who do they take? Basically all of the players in that range are Power Forwards or Point Guards.

I think Joel will slide to the fifth if this trade happens. And I think Derrick Favors would put up way better numbers in the Eastern Confrence. Utah gets Jabari and frees up money as well.

I would pull the trigger during the draft to see exactly where Embid would fall. So cavs still draft parker who Utah wants ,  and see where the dominos fall in place. IF embid falls to utah trigger the trade. Only if they also take Bennet salary. People say favors deal is overpaid but 4 years 48 mill for a rising big man is nothing

If Cleveland wants Embiid they have three options. Take Embiid 1, and risk everything. Trade to #3 with Philly and get Thad Young back knowing Milwaukee won’t take Embiid. Or take a second risk(risk his health and risk someone stealing him) and trade to #5, and get Favors back. Favors is a better player than Thad but it comes down to whether they believe that Philly or Orlando would take Embiid at 3 or 4 or if they would trade down to someone that wants Embiid like Boston or LA.

If I am the Cavs, I need more than that. As a Sixers fan, I would be happy for this deal to take place because it makes it more likely for Parker to go first leaving Wiggins to the Bucks where they may be willing to either take Exum or trade down with us for Exum.

Me personnally, I would rather have the first pick and select either Parker or Wiggins then trade it for the 5th and Favors. I’m not sure why everyone thinks Favors is good or going start being good.

I agree with you.  Favors is overrated due to his "potential".  He did have a good season last year (for him), 13pts and 9 rebs a game, but this is on a poor team.  Favors doesn’t have any real one on one go to post moves to score.  It’s either a put back or a catch and quick finish when his defender helps stop the penetrator.  He is too mechanical and I don’t see him developing his fluidity in the post offensively.  He is not a good post passer either.  However, he is a pretty decent rebounder on both sides of the floor, which is going to be his forte going forward in his career.

I don’t classify him as an elite athlete in the post, but he is  a little above average to me.  The injury problems with Favors are what would really deter me if I were Cleveland.  He has had lower back problems of late, which is not a good sign in big men.

If I’m Cleveland, you use your #1 pick to draft Wiggins and be done with it. He actually has potential to be elite on both ends of the floor.

Favors is still only 22 and he should start seeing some more touches and better form. Plus him next to Thompson could be a nice defensive big man tandem. Can always trade the 5th pick either down or move up to Orlando if they can still get their targeted player at 5. Or Cleveland can always reach for lavine. He may be one of those guys with the most potential. Personally I’d keep the pick but if they were to trade it favors and the 5th isn’t such a bad return.

i have to say i’d be happy with that trade.  favors can play center and at #5, i’d take aaron gordon.  he’s the perfect compliment to irving, bennett and waiters and will bring some much needed blue collar mentality to that team.  maybe utah can sweeten the deal with burks or the #23 and then i’d be all in if i’m the cavs.

Favors is a legit big. He’s got great size and is 22. He’s younger than Zeller and can play the Center spot, which is weak in the East.

      Really?

Tyson, Roy, Bosh, Noah, Jonas, Big Al, Horford is back, Twin is back…   I will say bull sh*t…  The truth is Favors got decent numbers on a bad team…  Key word being DECENT…  I understand that he’s 22, but he’s been in the league for 4 years.  He had more than enough time to show us what he could do…  He’s a decent starter, that’s about it…

If I’m Utah, there is no way I include more than Favors and 5…. I might not even do that. You’re going to get an all-star quality player at 5 in Randle, Vonleh, or Gordon, so unless you’re really sold on someone else (Parker OR WIGGINS) then I think you stay where you’re at.

Favors is a legit, quality big in this league, with athleticism and size. Think young Jermaine O’neal. Is going from 5 to 1 worth giving up a guy like that??? Tough call. If you think Wiggins/Parker is a SUPERSTAR, you do this deal if you’re Utah… but if not, then Keep Favors and go get one of those three quality bigs I already mentioned.

If you’re Clevelend, you do this deal if you think you have a legit shot at Lebron. Neither Wiggins or Parker seem ideal fits next to Lebron, and Clevlend needs a LEGIT big. Favors plus Gordon, Vonleh, Randle, or Smart seems like a better fit next to Lebron, and liekly more compelling to him than just Wiggins or Parker.

Jermaine O’Neal was a franchise big and the best big man in the East for awhile. He was highly skilled could shoot it from mid range, post up and great shot blocker.

I admit For Never Ever, a young Jermaine O’neal is not the best comparison for Favors. I compare Favors to Al Horford. When healthy, the Hawks were 3rd place in the East. Had Horford been healthy all year, the Hawks would have competed and been a better opponent for the Heat then the Pacers were who went south after the all star break. If Horford is healthy next year and Lebron stays with the Heat, (which is what I expect to happen) Then I think Atlanta and Washington could be serious contenders to the Heat. More so Atlanta because they would be a veteran team while Washington would be a young, up and coming team.

The Jazz had bad coaching last year, yet Favors was still able to average 13pts, 9 boards and about 1.5 blocks per game. Those are darn good numbers considering the bad coaching Utah had last year. Now that they have a legitamate coach, I expect Favors to average about 16 pts, 10.5 boards, 2 blocks a game.

So if the Jazz decide to do this trade they are giving up a legitamate double double threat with 2 blocks per game guy in order to get a Mormon who could probably average 15-16 a game with 3-4 boards and .3 blocks per game in his rookie season. Put those averages with what Kanter might average next year (I’m thinking 15 and 8 with .5 blocks per game and it doesn’t look so good. So for me, I would not trade Favors just to get Parker. Now if the Cavs are willing to include Tristan Thompson in the deal as well then I might consider but definitely not with just Favors and #5 pick for #1 pick. If I were the Jazz, I would want the Cavs to offer Thompson and the #1 pick for Favors, #5 pick and #23 pick, before I even consider moving Favors to get Parker.

Its a solid idea, but what can the Cavs truly expect to get at number 5? Maybe Randle or a reach for McDermott. IDK, just seems better to go for a top-tier player especially with Kyrie having one foot out the door.

If I were the Cavs I would ask for Utah’s 23rd pick as well. The Cavs don’t necessarily need another rookie on a guaranteed contract but it would be nice to have that bargaining for a possible another deal before draft night.

    WIGGINS! WIGGINS! WIGGINS!

If I’m Cleveland it’s not even a debate what I do with that #1 pick. (and this is coming from a guy who favors Jabari’s playing style)

The NBA is a business as well as enterainment, Wiggins is the guy to take considering the Bennett fiasco last year. They need to RESTORE the faith of the fans AS WELL as compete. Weren’t we all just salivating over the Wiggins hype just 1 short year ago – and then again over his performances during the final stretch of the college season? (minus tourney hehe)

Look I love the possibily of Joel bringing back the ‘true’ big man and I truly understand his Hakeem comparisons – also wishing him a speedy recovery! But Andrew would’ve been my pick even if Joel would’ve never got hurt (foot or even back issues)

This league is DOMINATED by perimeter play and point guards. They have the PG of their future, now add that SF and fill the pieces as you go.

To me passing on Wiggins/Jabari for the possibilites of Joel’s potential seems non-essential. I HATE when people compare this to KD/Oden or Jordan/Bowie… but I see their point at the same time.

Why RISK when you just BOMBED on last year’s pick?

    Why?

It’s as if God himself is hand-wrapping Wiggins to the Cavs from the Heavens and they STILL don’t get the picture.

if you’re Cleveland (now that embiid’s stock is supposedly falling) you take it and run period. This trumpss Philly’s offer by a mile and you wouldn’t feel bad for them because they would probably end up with Wiggins at 3 anyway. Win win win

I actually think that LeBron would rather play with Andrew Wiggins than Embiid.  Wiggins can help LeBron with perimeter D.  Wiggins can slash more, and take over some of the scoring load.  Embiid might also clog up the middle for LeBron’s drives.

Also, hey, if the Cavs get Wiggins AND LeBron then that would give them a bunch of talent at 1-4 (LeBron, Wiggins, Kyrie Irving, Sugar Dion Waiters, and Anthony Bennett).  Next year is a big man draft anyway, so why not go with WCS as a shot blocker/dunker type in the Tyson Chandler mold?  If they resign Andy V, then Side "Show" Andy, Tyler Zeller, and WCS would be a pretty good 3 center rotation.

I also don’t think it was an accident that the "Final Four" NBA teams started LeBron, Durant, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard at small forward.
