    Detroit get Melo and Smith.
New York get Monroe, Stuckey, Villanueva and T Mitchell.

My thoughts are that New York suck and need young talent to build around and that’s not going to happen through the draft. Monroe is a young good big man, Stuckey could audition for a bigger role and Mitchell has some potential. More trades are needed for the youth rebuild movement.
Melo would have to guarantee that he would resign (probably never happen, but lets say he hypothetically does). Detroit could be scary, the only problem I see is that there is only 1 ball between Melo, Jennings and the 2 Smiths. Could Melo drag them together (probably not)

Just a thought. Would like to know what people think.

The “only” problem? That’s a pretty BIG problem.

I don’t know what New York needs to do. They can’t just let Melo walk because they won’t have any cap room whether they let him go or not so they are almost forced to resign him. They can’t really trade him because they would be getting back pennies on the dollar. New York seems to be in a lose lose situation. As for this specifc trade I think you nailed it on the head with only one ball between Melo, Smith, Smith, and Jennings because it could never work.

If NY and Det were to do a trade, I think that one of either Iman or JR would be a great fit with the Pistons. If I was Det, I’d rather Shumpert due to his contract and defense.

Knicks get a much better team with the additions of Smith, Evans, Gordon, and Stuckey. After this trade they are ready to be a competitor in the east witha lineup of

     felton, prigioni

    gordon, stuckey, rivers

    melo, evans

    smith, artest

    chandler, smith

Detroit gets rid of smith and his contract which wasn’t working for them, also giving them the chance to keep both drummond and monroe. next year bargnani is an expiring contract that should be tradeable for an asset. hopefully Jr smith can get his act together and take over stuckeys role.

New Orleans gets out of two bad contracts in evans and gordons. The negative side is that they have to take on Amare, his contract expires next year. They also get back hardaway and shumpert who are both nice young players.

I think all sides would do this trade.

Really? Really? You think all sides would do this trade? You think Detroit would trade Stuckey and Josh Smith for J.R Smith and Barn?

That’s giving up a chuking but talented Smith for a…chucking but talent Smith; and a giving up at talented, above league average on PER Stuckey, for at best, a role playing 3 point PF/C who has no concept of rebounding or defense.

      Less 2k14 for you…

Of course the talent levels aren’t going to match up. I would definitely do this if I was Detroit, because if I don’t find a taker for Josh Smith I won’t be able to keep both Monroe and Drummond once their rookie contracts are over. They need outside shooting bad and can use barn and JR to stretch the floor. If detroit keeps smith they will probably lose Monroe in free agency and become destined to be a poor to mediocre team wihtout a real chance of contending. Also, if detroit becomes a bottom 8 seed they get to keep their draft pick in this years draft. So becoming worse for this season doesn’t really hurt them.

New York obviously gets the most talent in the trade but both of the other teams are better off because they have flexibility going forward. New york is one of the only teams desperate enough to take on those types of contracts.

From a pistons fan point of view,..1. The pistons don’t have a pick this year (char. has it) . Bargani would have a "Mehmet Okur kind of role) which is fine….but Harrellson is a cheaper version of Bargani . Harrellson produces, when givin consistent minutes. JR smith would be a question mark. I think that surgery in the offseason hurt him, along with the erratic behavior.  I would like to take on Shumpert contract instead…in a seperate trade (maybe see what offers are for jerebko)…but ultimately no for this trade cuz we have a poor mans bargani ) Harellson. And we dont need Smith as another distraction.
