CavFanPRParticipantThe first one I posted got bashed and I don’t understand why. Obviously, Favors is the best player in the trade but Dion is better than Burks imo and Zeller is better than Gobert. What do you think about this offer?
Utah receives: Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, Tristan Thompson, Tyler Zeller, Sergey Karasev, ’15 first round pick from Miami via Cleveland.
Cleveland receives: Derrick Favors, Alec Burks, Rudy Gobert.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantThe thing is…
The Cavs get the Jazz most important players.
And the Jazz get all of the Cavs spare parts.
The only thing different in this trade than your last one is you included a first round pick…

CavFanPRParticipantI also included Bennett instead of washed up Varejao. In my opinion, if the Jazz decide to build around Exum, a player like Dion who can play off the ball and score a lot of points would fit pretty good. I don’t get why people undervalue Dion, I truly believe he’ll be an all star at one point in his career. But when you target a player like Favors you have to sacrifice something good and I believe it’s a good offer for both sides.
The Jazz offered #5, Favors, Burks and Gobert for #1. They didn’t think Exum was gonna be there so they wanted to trade up. In this scenario, they keep Exum and get some good players to put around him.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantBennett is a total and complete bust. He is not a trade piece. You canceled out Varejao with a lesser player and included a first that will likely not even be close to a lottery pick. Its essentially the same thing you posted earlier. Your bias is hanging out.

xJumpManxParticipantIf Dion knew how to play off the ballhe would never ever be discussed in a trade.

SwatLakeCityParticipantNo, Jazz did not offer Favors, Burks for #1 pick. that was a RUMOR. Rumors are false. (well, most of them are) We discussed this in your last post. David Locke cleared it all up by saying that Favors is the cornerstone of the Jazz right now. So unless the Jazz get another cornerstone player back then, no deal. And I’m sorry but Waiters is not a cornerstone player. He is better coming the bench as the 6th man. And Burks is more valuable than you think. I think Waiters and Burks are about the same age. They are both good off the ball scorers. Yet, Waiters thinks he’s key player to the Cavs franchise, while Burks actually works within the system. He is a dynamite scorer like Waiters is, but Burks actually works within the system and does not think of himself as the key player to the franchise, he thinks of himself as just a piece to the puzzle (the puzzle being the chemistry of a team) So who would I rather have between Waiters and Burks? That’s easy Burks in a heart beat. You get the same player, yet one that will actually fit your team’s chemistry. No deal.

thunderjerkParticipantDon’t believe everything Locke says. He’s an employee of the franchise. I’m pretty sure that offer was correct, but when the Cavs backed out, Favors was pissed and the team needed a PR out by saying the proposed trade was false.

Mr. HookShotParticipantAnd regarding Zeller beats Gobert: that might be true, but both are fringe rotation players, let alone solid starters. If Utah gives up on Favors, they have to get somebody in return who they consider will be their best player in 2 or 3 years. The thing is, Utah has all the pieces in place for a nice team in a few years, with Burke – Burks/Exum – Hayward – Favors – Kanter. Not saying these guys will win it all, but that is a nice solid core. The one position I feel they should do better is in their frontcourt, where both Favors and Kanter are a little bit static.

bloodshyParticipantI would not trade Favors straight up for that entire offer, much less throw in Burks and Gobert. To be clear, I do not think Favors is a superstar and I do not think he will ever become one. That is why I may have been willing to trade Favors in a deal that landed Parker/Wiggins, who have star potential.
However, at the very least Favors is a very good defensive anchor for a team–a very important component for any contender. None of the pieces offered here from the Cavs fill a critical role like that. Rather, they are role players who, for the most part, cannot adequately fill their roles. Favors is, at the very worst, a solid role player and above average defensive big. And his remaining untapped potential is likely as high as the untapped potential from the listed group. He still has elite measurements and is only 22 years old. I’d just rather have that then that compilation of players who generally don’t seem like important components of anything.

sheepish_moParticipantSo you posted one homer Cleveland trade got smashed then decided to post another just as bad trade? Teams don’t want to trade defensive anchors and pivotal players for a bunch of garbage you’re trying to get rid of.
