TORONTO — Toronto Raptors rookie Ed Davis has suffered a knee injury less than two weeks before the start of training camp.
Davis suffered damage to his meniscus cartilage in his right knee while playing basketball Wednesday, the Raptors announced Friday, adding the team and Davis are evaluating treatment options.
A serious injury would be a blow to a young Raptors squad that lost Chris Bosh in the off-season when the all-star forward signed with the Miami Heat.
Toronto selected Davis, a University of North Carolina product, with the 13th overall pick in the NBA draft, hoping the six-foot-10 would help fill the front-court hole left by Bosh’s departure.
Davis showed promise in his Raptors debut during summer league action in Las Vegas, especially considering his U.S. college season had been cut short when he broke a bone in his left wrist Feb. 10.
Davis averaged 9.2 points and 7.7 rebounds in 61 games over two seasons with the Tar Heels.
Raptors open training camp Sept. 28 and practise for three days in Toronto before heading to Vancouver for the remainder of camp.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDamn… This is awful. Let’s hope the damage is very minor and it won’t keep him out for too long.
Depending on the tear, they may just be able to go in and stitch it up.

IndianaBasketballParticipantLet’s wait until we hear about the damage. IF it’s minor, he won’t be out for long at all.

torontoraptors10ParticipantMr.Knick pretty much summarized my facial expression.
On the other hand, hopefully this injury isn’t too bad. I read that it could be minor or severe, from rest even to arthoscopic knee surgery. Lets just hope it isn’t bad!

omphalosParticipantThis will put more pressure on Amir Johnson to play big minutes and produce. Hope it isn’t too serious, I like Davis’ potential.

Da1potParticipantIf it is a meniscus injury thats not too bad… Just hope it’s not a more serious knee injury. Remember, last season Brandon Roy had a meniscus tear, had surgery and returned in about 2 and a half weeks…

PaulsJayhawksParticipantLet’s face it the Raps are not going to be great this season anyways. They needed to make sure he is not rushed back and comes back 100% healthy even if its next year.

JoeWolf1That sucks, I thought if Ed Davis went #2 like he was projected before the season started that would have been a huge mistake, but I liked him at #13. He has some potential, I hope this doesnt ruin it.
