ExumInfernoParticipantI don’t blame Bennett, I blame the Cavs, they picked him.
People can blame him for not putting in effort, on and off the court. But the Cavs picked him at 1, so getting hit with the bust stick should be done to them too.
Toronto will waive him, Suns might want him.
The question, is he is the very worst draft pick of all time?
He is a bust, is he the bust of all busts?

BleedGreen808ParticipantI totally agree with you about the Cavs being at fault for drafting him #1. He was never really in the conversation as the top pick and was dealing with a shoulder injury so he couldn’t even workout for teams. You know it’s a surprise when even Bennett didn’t think he was going 1st. However, unfortunately he will be labeled a bust because he hasn’t managed to even be a role player yet which is also on him for not performing.
I think there are teams that will still take a shot at him considering he’s only 22yrs old. Phoenix is already a possibility and I think Boston should take a look as well. Phoenix is an obvious spot for him since they want to play young players. Boston would probably not have playing time for him but maybe it’s an environment that he could grow in. Philly is another obvious choice for playing time and opportunity.

ChewyParticipant#8 Rafael Araujo and #12 Robert Swift and #9 Patrick O’Bryant and #10 Saer Sene and #11 Fran Vasquez are worse to me
Kwame has some seasons around 7/8 pts and one season of 11PPG, so I guess he was better than Bennett’s 5.2 PPG
Olawakandi had 4 seasons of 8-12 ppg right off the bat. No longevity, but still better than Bennett.
Maybe #6 Jan Vesely with his 3 seasons in NBA and season high of 4.7. But I read some articles about him planning an NBA comeback…
Maybe #10 Marcus Haislip and his season high of 4.1 PPG
Maybe #5 Nikoloz Tskitishvilli played 3 seasons and season high 4 ppg and 2 rebs
Maybe #11 Trajan Langdon… never seemed to turn the corner like Redick did. Nice career overseas.

BleedGreen808ParticipantHow about Hasheem Thabeet #2 overall? Career high 3.1pts 3.6rebs as a rookie but in 224 career games an average of 2.2pts and 2.7rebs.
0- Posted on: Mon, 02/29/2016 - 12:36pm #1045523

ChewyParticipantand I was a believer in him. I thought he was 12 pts 8 rebs a game type player for sure.

OaktownWarriorsParticipantHomeboy has been a BUST before getting waived by his home town team! I didn’t think he was NBA material during his one year at UNLV.

I am an idiotParticipantNo one higher than the #5 pick should be on this list. They may be busts, but not all-time busts.
My vote is for Thabeet

darko4prezParticipantI’d say he’s a terrible draft pick but not the biggest bust because his potential wasn’t all that high. You also have to consider what else was on the board at the time. Darko, Beasley, Mayo, Thabeet, Flynn, Waiters are all worse picks for that reason.

doubledribblerParticipantCan you really be considered a bust in that draft? He wasn’t a can’t miss pick. Cavs tried to get cute and pick a tweener…those guys rarely ever become starters and everyone knows Draymond Green is the exception. It was just a bad pick in a bad draft. I don’t think he even had much of a ceiling even if he took care of his body. Just one of those guys that look a little better in college because he is physically stronger than others.

phila9012ParticipantTristan thompson and draymond green are making 16 million a year while playing key roles on a contenders while guys with more talent like beasely, derrick williams and bennett are doing very little. All three of those guys had more talent coming out than thompson and green but they don’t know who they are as players and they don’t have the fight like thompson and green do.

omphalosParticipantProbably the worst #1 pick of all time, didn’t get a foothold anywhere, been cut twice now and traded once.
Has showed no promise of being even capable of making the rotation for even a bad team.
Maybe Philly will take a flier on him as a theoretically floor-spacing big who can be had for cheap, but it doesn’t seem likely.
Then again, he could end up somewhere like the Spurs and be nurtured JUST right to deliver on his potential.
But I really, really doubt it.

Hype MachineWho had more upside?
Anthony Bennett #1 pick for the Cavs in 2013
Lusia Harris: Pregnant woman drafted by the Jazz in 1977
Side note: Got to feel sorry for the 33 players drafted after her in the draft.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantLMAO, there was 8 rounds in the draft back then. Teams must have been scraping the barrel for draftable talent after the first 4 rounds.

nath09ParticipantIs he the worst draft pick of all time?
My answer is no. There could have been a half dozen "worst picks" in that draft. McLemore was considered the number 1 for quite some time. That pick would not have been much better.
In terms of worst pick I think you have to look at who went right behind him. Olidipo is good but as far as worst picks go I’m gessing Portland might like to have Jordan and Durant associated with their franchise. Bennett’s draft was a crap shoot that a lot of teams got wrong.
Now I’m not laballing Bowie and Oden busts but Portland wouldn’t think twice second time around with either pick.
Also when you look at the player drafted directly after your pick Johnny Flynn is the worst pick of all time with Curry being the next pick.

TRC1991ParticipantCJ McCollum has become the best player from the 2013 draft right in front of Giannis and Oladipo

220ParticipantI still can’t believe they took Anthony Bennet number one overall. He clearly wasn’t the best prospect and he didn’t fit in with the roster they had at the time either. I mean there was no clear cut number one, but Nerlens Noel, Alex Len, or Otto Porter would have been better picks for them at the time. In hindsight Rudy Gobert, The Greek Freak, Gorgui Dieng, or Stephen Adams would have also been wiser choices.

ropeParticipantCheck out Chris Washburn. If it wasn’t for his problems he would have been in consideration for #1 in 1986 (the Len Bias draft). His drug problems limted him to 72 games in 4 years. Len Bias, of course, played zero. Bias, Washburn, Tarpley. The 1986 draft is a tragedy when you realize what some of these guys could have been.

TyroberParticipantI was insanely shocked when they made the pick and just feel sorry for him at this point. It wasn’t his fault they drafted him #1 overall, but it is what it is. He is a tweener with no real position in the NBA. I really wanted the Cavs to draft Oladipo, but will admit he hasn’t been as good as I thought he would be either.

European BasketballerParticipantBennett has good ability and I think he can be a very good player. But clearly there is something wrong with him in mental aspect. He must be very lazy or just has no competitive spirit. Because he obviously has ability.
