Surprised it took so long since he was the guy they always wanted, but Tom Thibodeau signs a 5 year deal with the Knicks.

I heard Stephen A said the deal is 3 years guaranteed the last 2 had stipulations. Too bad they used Jason Kidd as a bargaining chip to to get THIBs. NY will never be taken seriously until Dolan is gone. If The Knicks fail to acquire a top 3 pick. And remain where they r slotted to draft. I doubt a defensive coach like Thibs will want defensive challenged Obi Toppin . Ball isn’t known for his defense either, but his upside and marquee value will be too hard to pass up if they land the first pick.

I agree canada. I imagine it will change a little bit at first. But then I think he will get frustrated and do the exact same thing and run Julius Randle for 40 minutes a game. Although I do trust Walt Perrin, so in the draft, I think he could find something. He got Millsap, Gobert, Mitchell, Hayward all out of the draft. So I am a little intrigued about how this will go. I definitely don’t think Thibs is the coach, but I think NY will be more likely to get better pieces.

My best guess: He’ll get maximum effort out of the young players, at first. They’ll improve — he could probably lead the current Knicks core to a 30-35 win season. But they need way more talent and experience to become a playoff team. Who will want to play for the worst-run organization in the league, with a coach known for leaving his players washed up at 30?

I like seeing the best players play. I think Thibs is a good coach…. but yeah the future is a wash for the Knicks. They’ll be worse than the Timberwolves for sure. Unless Dolan leaves they won’t be acquiring any talent.

Thibs is a good coach, and the Knicks stumbled their way into a strong position with the number of players they have with non-guaranteed contracts or partially guaranteed contracts in the middle of a pandemic where teams will be looking to cut payroll. In as much as their current roster does not look good in anyone’s system or setup, they are set up to transform the supplemental and peripheral players on the roster. They do, still, have to get a leap from RJ Barrett. I don’t think people fully appreciate how bad his rookie year was. A lot of jokes about Barrett playing 45 minutes per game next year forget that if not for being taken 3rd he did nothing to merit playing 15.

To be fair to Adam Silver on making Lou Williams sit in his hotel room for 10 days, many wives and girlfriends who have caught their man making an impromptu appearance at Magic City have socially distanced from them and quarantined them on the couch for more than 10 days.

Armchair GM, you’re wrong. Florida is a republican state. That’s why they’re not shut down. Has nothing to do with geography. The democrat leaders subscribed to a philosophy known as “post modern.” They’re socialist dictators Kim Jung Un Style. —-Prove me wrong-

On one hand, it is stunning that there are areas of the country where strip clubs are open. On the other hand, you don’t get to 150,000 dead without a steady stream of stupid coming from all directions.

I noticed this story about how things in the US might impact possible 2020-21 scenarios. The mini-bubbles with breaks for family leave might be the best plan should there not be a vaccine. The lack of progress in the country makes anything but a bubble seem unrealistic.

Thibs is a grinder with a reputation for getting the most out of his teams, but truth be told, the league looked like it had kind of passed him by recent years. The strategies that made him successful in Chicago were not really in effective in Minnesota. Aside from playing his best players too many minutes (which I’ve always considered to be a little bit overblown of an issue) his once revolutionary defensive strategy of walling off the paint and loading the strong side off the floor has fallen out of favor in a league so heavily predicated on shooting and spacing the floor. How much has he learned in his time away from the game and how willing will he be to adapt his philosophies to fit the roster he has in place?

While I have serious questions about this hire, the Knicks did accomplish their goal of bringing in a big name coach with a proven track record of success. This roster is clearly still a ways from being competitive, and there’s a part of me that thought they should’ve went with a younger, more relatable type of coach who could grow with the roster. Thibs doesn’t seem like the guy you hire if you want to rebuild. I’m not saying it can’t work, but you could definitely say I’m a skeptic.

Thibs had a long stint with the Knicks as an Assistant coach and is from the area on a chance to work there must appeal to him. He’ll just be concentrating on the coaching and if the Knicks do decide to go longer term then he’ll drill the fundamentals into players. But if they go for the big names, will Thibs demanded work rate put off big names going to MSG.
We always hear about Thibs driving players too hard but Mike D’Antoni is famed for his 8 man roster and elevating the uptempo style yet we never hear about him burning players out. Is Thibs game about maximum effort at both ends whilst D’Antoni is very much about offence.
