I came across this insider article on ESPN and wanted to get this forum’s opinion on the idea. Would this benefit both teams??? Would LeBron actually allow CP3 to be the point guard?

I don’t know what their relationship has to do with it. Due to LeBron’s isolation/hero ball style of of play, he’s basically the point guard. CP3 is one of the best pure point guards in NBA history and I can’t see him being okay with standing in a corner while LeBron plays hero ball.

By 2012-13, Miami was much more than isoball. It took some time, and they won a title in the mean time, but they figured out how to play with one another in a way that all of them were the most efficient they had ever been. The injuries and LeBron’s decision to leave following 2014 made it a one year story, but it has been done. Would it again? I don’t know. Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra are lacking from the Cleveland setup, and LeBron does not appear to have a counter force to push something that might require time to work.

The ESPN article read like it was just throwing something out there as click bait, so I would not make much of it, but I do think LeBron could be more adaptable to playing with someone like Paul.

for LAC, it would be a pretty bad trade, its not Paul’s offense tahts the problem, they don’t have guards that can play any sort of stout defense.  Reddick Paul and the awful Austin Davis.  So the solution is bring in a gunner in Kyrie?  Clippers just aren’t good enough, Kyrie doesn’t make them any better.

Only so many teams can win….they play within a system and have some unbelievable players too.

Kyrie is not a system guy……..doesn’t know he has teammates, sure knwos he has a crowd watching him though.

I’d like to see it from Cleveland side though.  Paul is a dog.  Lebron needs more dogs.

This trade is a pipe dream but could be ideal for both teams. Paul raises the Cavs immediate ceiling on defense and would likely help Kevin Love’s production as well. Kyrie has more long term value and his prime will occur in a better window for LAC, as the Warriors, Spurs, and possibly the Thunder are likely to dominate for the next three years. Blake’s playmaking could blend very well with Kyrie’s spot up shooting, though DeAndre likely plays worse.

The only reason I consider that trade if I’m the Clips would be due to Paul’s age. How many years does he have left on his contract? there are so many damn opt-outs these days that it’s impossible to keep track of who is under contract until when.

If Paul has an opt out coming up, I’d consider it because Irving is under contract for a while but Paul is a far superior player.

From Cleveland’s standpoint, I don’t see how it would work. LBJ needs the ball and he needs everything to go through him. Paul does his best work in pick’n’roll and he’s a ball-dominant guy even more than Irving.

On the other side though, Paul is a much better defender and him and LeBron are tight, so I guess who knows. LeBron is calling the shots, so you just never know.

It likely won’t happen, but man how funny would it be if Irving and Love got traded at some point within the next year? Both guys sign contracts with that organization and are traded less than halfway through. Sadly it wouldn’t surprise me, knowing that the Cavs are a joke of an organization.

The Cavs are already run by LeBron and someone with the last name Paul, so another Paul is a good fit.

Clippers might benefit from the change, and get something else in the deal too.

Mozgov and Irving for Paul, some equal salaries there.

LeBron and Chris Paul do seem like a good fit, they both share some controversial views and together could cause lots of trouble.

Nah I wouldn’t do it if I were the Cavs. Bad defensive guards can be hidden. Curry is not a elite defender either. The Cavs need better pick n roll D from the PF position. I think Kyrie’s shooting helps Lebron’s game more anyway.

LeBron, Sasha Kaun, and Jared Cunningham to the Knicks for Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingas, and Sasha Vujacic.

The Knicks can reload around LeBron.  He could help attract free agents.

But, would Phil Jackson hang up the phone?

The Cavs would have a front line that could really, really score and shoot from anywhere: Carmelo at the 3, Love at the 4, and Porzingas at the 5.  TT, Mozgov, and AV also fill in at the big man spots.  Kyrie Irving gets the ball in his hands more.  JR Smith would also get some more chances to make plays.  Either as the fifth starter or as a 6th man.

This is the only way the Cavs can match up with the Warriors and Spurs.  The Cavs can now go big OR small.  They can throw out a lineup with FIVE shooters on the court, or feature lineups with scrappy defensive players like Delly, Shump, and TT.

What does LeBron do that Carmelo and Porzingas can’t?

The Cavs have an all star point guard (Kyrie), and two solid backups in Delly and Mo Williams.  JR Smith can also make plays from the wing.

I am still not sure the Knicks would do this trade.

I said what Cleveland issues were going to be and got railroaded by you IndianaBasketBall for it last year.   Cleveland main issue is LeBron and the fact he lost weight.   He played great basketball in Miami (the best ball for his career and won 2 back to back titles because of it) when he played in the post.   He decided to lose weight and go back to the old type of basketball, which we saw a dip in his shooting percentages.   (Now he only go to the post when they’re losing by 20 or he has a mismatch)…

I thought initially getting Love and having Kyrie would make the Cavs damn near unstoppable offensively.   You have Love, who was considered a better shooting stretch 4 than Bosh.  Kyrie, who was considered a better shooter and scorer than Wade w/ LeBron.

The issue arose when LeBron no longer wanted to play the post and they refused to hand Love the ball down there.   So, now they’re no longer getting easy points when needed.  LeBron has NEVER been a great one on one scorer from out towards the 3pt line.   For the life of me, I don’t understand why he chose to lose weight to play faster and when Jordan gained it to slow down at 30.

After seeing the game versus the Bulls, I think part of the issue was Blatt’s defensive strategies.  At first, Love was legit a victim, but after watching the Bulls game with Lue at HC, he was getting back on PnR.   Which reminded me of what Cleveland was doing to the Warriors last year in the Finals.   They completely abandon the screener and double teamed Curry and Klay off picks.  Which enabled Barnes, Iggy, and Green to be wide open.   Wide open to the point that Iggy was taking open jumpers below the free throw line and won Finals MVP.

Cleveland needs to calm the hell down and get to playing as a team.  Especially defensively…   Rotating on defense and helping out.   It’s not rocket science.   LeBron also need to take his a$$ to the post for 75-80% of his touches so they can get easy baskets.   No need for Paul or trading anyone.   They’re good, I hate when teams panic for no reason.

Dropping the weight would have an added advantage for him and the longevity of his career.  It will also let him play back on the wing more…..etc.

Oh okay. I mean, yea and I still believe that him dropping weight was good for him considering all of the mileage he has on his knees, back, etc.

He’s still bigger/stronger than most players who are defending him though. He should still be playing in the post more, but he chooses not to. He’d rather iso on the perimeter.

Honestly, I may be the only one, but I think this trades works out well for both sides. I think the main problem with the Cavs isn’t Kevin Love, but I think it’s Kyrie Irving. That’s not to say he isn’t an excellent player but he doesn’t not mesh well with Lebron and Love IMO. He’s a shoot first PG who is at his best when he isolates. He’s not a good passer and he’s not really a pick and roll player either, he’s almost like a PG version of Melo tbh. That’s not to mention that he is a bad defender as well. Like I said, I still think he’s a very good player that can thrive in a system that better suites his talents. I think he can thrive playing for a team like the Clips because of his one on one scoring. The knock on CP3 for years has been that he isn’t aggressive in looking for his shot, that he can be a little bit to unselfish, which obviously isn’t a bad thing, but substituting CP3s lack of aggression with Kyrie’s incredible scoring ability can benefit the team. I also think that with the trade, Blake Griffin becomes the undisputed best player on the team, and his overall game would expand even more sort of like it did last year in the playoffs without Chris Paul (The year Blake came in 3rd in MVP was also a season in which Paul missed a ton of games). I don’t think Deandre becomes worse because he gets a lot of his lobs from Blake as well.

For the Cavs, CP3 is probably the perfect player for this team. He makes them a more complete and well rounded team. If you watch the Cavs, what do they do on Offense that makes everyone crazy? The isolate to much, they don’t really move the ball well. What is CP3s best skill? Passing the basketball. With CP3, I think Love as well as Lebron can get a ton of easy looks, Mozgov would thrive playing for a PG like CP3 that’s gonna look for him when he rolls hard to the basket. JR smith and Shumpert would get easier looks from three as well. They would also benefit because Tyron Lue was an assistant coach to Paul with the clippers for a couple of seasons, so the relationship between head coach and PG is there. And although he’s never been to a finals(Lmao), Paul also has years and years of playoff experience compared to the brief post season that Kyrie had last year. The only downside would be how Lebron and CP3 would divide leadership responsibility being that both are outspoken guys, but being that the two are really great friends that part can resolve itself.  dam

Really interesting trade and would instantly make the Cavs my favorite to win the Chip because CP3, like Wade, is a natural leader and would command Lebrons respect.  He instantly makes the defense better and offense more efficient.

Plus a big factor in Brons efficiency in Miami was his ability to play off ball eith Wade, only Kyrie isnt nowhere near the facilitator Wade is.

Also overrated is Kyries ability to space the floor cuz hes actually not a good catch and shoot player at all he has to dribble into his shot.

I feel like the Cavs biggest problem is actually Kyrie hopefully Lue finds a way to fix his innefficient non defense playing ways.

Also the Cavs need a player like Reddik or Korver who are lights out from 3 and must be accounted for.

CP3 is still a superior player to Irving IMO despite being 7 years older. I could see logic in the Clippers being attracted to get a younger guy but would Irving bring what CP3 does for them I wonder.

Also CP3 is one of the top creative PGs so if he doesn’t have the ball how effective would he be and would LBJ give up a lot of ball handing in favour of him. CP3 would certainly spread the Cavs play more and make defending harder as LBJ would be playing more a free role.
