Plain and simple, the the current system does not fit with the current economic climate. We as fans should not have to worry about how are favorite teams are gonna shed salary or how they might sell ownership or change cities. Trades should be about improving as a team. But the reality is that players are making more money then the owners. Teams are losing money and searching for new investors while the players are wondering why they should settle for 8 million per year when they used to get 14 million per year.

it’s necessary for a new collective bargaining agreement. And in the end, the players association does not hold the cards. Players rely on their salaries to live their lives. Owners are billionaires due to outside resources other then basketball. Owning an NBA team is like a hobby. If they are barely breaking even with their franchise, why would they feel pressured to sign a collective bargaining agreement that does not satisfy them. The Players would be wise to look to settle quickly. They did’nt win in ’98a nd it’s doubtful they win this time around.

I agree the players have to realize something is wrong when expiring contracts have been the biggest trading chips for the last several years, and when salary dumping has become more of a norm than the exception.

I saw this coming for a while now and the biggest problems is young player think they deserve 20 millions after they put up good years and no matter how good they play there is not that kind of money. There will be a lockout and I am going to get back into college basketball so that it does not hit me as hard.

a player should never earn a third of the teams’s whole salary. It’s wrong. We need to go back to a 18mill or 16 mill cap max. The mle should be lowered as well, along with age requirements for max eligibility. Looks like a goood group of owners on the committee and i hoope the can fix this.

Didn’t the players already lose out w/the rookie salary & age limit. Now the cap down this year to 57.7 and talk of it going to 50-53 mill next year. Its not the players fault owners & gm’s overspent for guys that aren’t franchise players like Rashard Lewis, Peja, Kenyon Martin, Randolph, Redd guys big money and long term contracts. I didn’t hear Miami or Boston complain when Shaq and KG helped them win titles.

Still i’m sure the players will settle they have the most to lose, teams have to be smarter with their spending though.

Some of y’all make my laugh, Really?! Come on, I don’t care what profession you’re associated with, whether your job is sports, office, or in the field regardless if you earned or barley earned your pay, (lets be honest we’ve all work with some dbag who does little work or try to push if off on coworkers but they wont miss payday.) If your jobs comes to you and say you know what, we’ve been evaluating your performance here’s a contract for 20 mil. Someone going to not sign that contract? We are all going to sign it.

Why don’t we put some the the woes on the GM’s/President in the NBA? If you sign a guy who had previous mediocre seasons then one break out contract year, you then sign that player to a 4 year 15 mil contract and the player bombs, most of the heat has to go to the GM. I understand that each case is relative and has to be judge cases by case. A player or any regular person will always want to be paid his/her worth, so that person will always sign that contract.

I’m not talking about the players, I don’t think the GMs should be ALLOWED to make those kind of offers.
