druneave3ParticipantProbably the biggest question going into this season is- Can Dwight Howard push the Lakers over the Heat and award Kobe with his 6th ring, and match Jordan? Well this would already be the case if it weren’t in fact for the worst day of Kobe’s life: July 31, 2007. Three days prior Ray Allen was traded to Boston and on the 31st they landed Kevin Garnett. The original Big 3 was created and would eventually go on to beat Kobe’s Lakers 4-2 in the Finals the next year. If this never happened on that day Boston would have never been there and the Lakers would have most likely faced LeBron returning to the finals, or Detriot. LeBron or a fading group in Detriot would have been hungry but I believe the Lakers would have beaten both. If not for July 31, 2007, Kobe would have in ’08, matching Jordan in two 3-peats and 6 rings.
I believe this day will continue to haunt Kobe for the remainder of his career and beyond as the Heat or maybe OKC will win until he is gone. Kobe will be stuck with 5.

NbanflguyParticipantI think the worst day of his life would be the day his sexual assault charges became public

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantThat next day when all he would talk about at the police station was Shaq, was the worst day. The next divorce court settlement day might be even worse when half of all the money he ever made in his life gets took probably will take the cake.
Everybody wants rings but a 5 to 8 in jail or a hundred million dollars is alot more important.

BostonkingsParticipantI have to agree with this druneave3, I firmly believe to this day had the Celtics big 3 not come together Kobe would have 6 rings and 2 three-peats, thank god for the Celtics to put down Kobe’s dreams of 6 rings dream. In my opinion if you lose in the Finals even ONE time you are not in the conversation for the GOAT. Then again, I guess Kobe’s finals loss to the Pistons in 04 means that he was never in the conversation anyways

IndianaBasketballParticipantBased on your criteria to be the GOAT (never losing in the Finals), other than MJ, who’s left?
