NbanflguyParticipantHey guys,Recently I keep hearing people talk about how Kobe is the dark horse to win the MVP this year or how Kobe is the MVP this year. I just do not get it. The only reason he is in the discussion is because of his brand, popularity, and history. Statistically speaking, this has been one of the worst years of his career.Bryant made it his goal to win the scoring championship this year and it is obvious that he is trying to do just that.I came up with some pros and cons of his mvp canidacypros:- He is leading the NBA in ppg
- His team is winning
Now some cons:- Other players especially Bynum have visibly shown frustration and anger at Bryant for taking too many shots.
- He is among the lead leaders in 3 pointers attempted at 5 a game. He is shooting 29% from 3.
- He is shooting 43% from the field on the year. That is his lowest mark since 1997.
- He has his 2nd lowest apg mark since 1998.
- He is turning the ball over the 2nd most times of his career.
- His team is 3-1 without him.
I am not knocking Kobe. He is one of the all-time greats, but the idea of him being MVP this year is absurb.0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/14/2012 - 4:26pm #659419

ChrisCrossParticipantRondo needs some MVP consideration.

aamir543ParticipantWell, he won’t win, he’s had a great season, not his most effective season, but how often do we see a guy maintain this type of greatness with so many miles on their odometer. Even before the season began he was right there with MJ in terms of total minutes player, including playoffs. 16 seasons plus another 2 or 3 in playoffs, he’s managed to stay at that elite level.
Let’s face it, Lebron and Durant are the only two guys in contention for the MVP, and with Lebron continuing to defer in the big moments and refusing to take over fourth quaters and OTs like we all know he can, it looks like Durant might get it, it’ll be close, and if Durant has more 41 point games like the one he’s working on right now, it looks like it’ll be his, but you can’t count Lebron out, he’s just so good but it frustrates me like hell to just see him not want to be involved in close late game moments.

Future_Scouti think he can def be in mvp talk mainly because "how often do we see a guy maintain this type of greatness with so many miles on their odometer", but he wont get it…. same for k. love.
…
"Lebron continuing to defer in the big moments and refusing to take over fourth quaters and OTs like we all know he can"
honest to god. (again, im a lebron/heat fan)… i don’t know if he can.

NbanflguyParticipanthonest to god. (again, im a lebron/heat fan)… i don’t know if he can.
We have seem him do it and I know he can do it again. I do not know what has happened to him over the past few years, but he used to not be afraid to take over and take the last shot in Cleveland. The biggest example is when he single handedly beat Detroit by scoring 29 of his teams last 30 points in the playoffs.

aamir543ParticipantI was just about to post the same on the other Kobe thread that I sort of turned into a Lebron MVP thread, but watch the video above, and remember, he was acol blooded killer. Remember that shot against Orlando in 2009, I know you do, that isn’t somthing cowards do, that was a man’s shot, especcially after Hedo made a shot that we thought iced the game. We saw him take over so many games with the Cavs, I have no doubt he can do it with the Heat. He isn’t on the same level as Kobe or MJ as far as "killing" goes, but he can do it well too, he really can. So I’m gonna be sitting in front of my couch in May watching the Heat going through an understandably tough series against say the Pacers, and even though I won’t be rooting for the Heat to win the tittle, I’ll be rooting for Lebron to take over games, like we all know he can. Just think back to Cleveland, and all of those games he single handedly won.

Future_Scouti’ve seen it, he caught on fire. but he is not that guy that’s comfortable taking over in the clutch. every heat fan knows this, and say give the ball to wade in the crunch. he is not cold blooded. last year in playoffs when they needed him in the clutch against bos and bulls he came thru, you know how? making threes, the worst low percentage chucks contested threes he made, iwo: he got lucky those went in and got bailed out by them (hard to believe me ik). he always takes threes during the clutch, last game against the bulls what he do in the clutch? spot up for corner 3 from a bosh pass… i’ve seen happen over and over and over… he doesn’t feel like he’s the BIW in the closing mins.
very hard to explain everything i want to say but 2 years in a row i watch 95% of his games and his overall feel for the game changes in the clutch

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIt’s not that his season isn’t good. It’s not efficient whatsoever. He hasn’t taken this many shots in 6 years and hasn’t shot such a low percentage in the last 14 years.
The fact that LeBron is much greater defensively (in the running for DPOY) and Durant has his team #1 in the West pretty much seals it up, they’re run-aways at this point and nobody is catching them barring a miracle.

NYK2010ParticipantCould be worse at least no one said Derrick Rose for MVP.

akhan786ParticipantLooking at that video…that is not the same Lebron today. I don’t know what happened from that year till his last year with the Cavs but apparently it took the killer out of him.
Just look at his facial expressions. I see a determined motha f’er in that video.
Nowadays you just see that kind of worried/"I don’t give a f" face from Lebron whenever it gets to crunch time.
I don’t like the Heat, but part of the reason why I’m a NBA fan is that I love seeing greatness happen before me.
And the fact that Lebron is holding back from the player he COULD be and not giving me my selfish hunger for greatness, just makes me hate Lebron and the Heat more.
If the Heat are to win it, then I’d only be happy if Lebron put the team on his back and gives us fans some of the memorable performances that we can tell our kids in the future.

tuck243ParticipantRussell Westbrook a MVP candidate… Dwyane Wade a MVP candidate… Bynum NOT… So to blame Kobe for having a team is a little ridiculous…
I tweeted this yesterday… New coach, new system, turmoil beginning of the season, Odom traded, D. Fish traded, divorce, 33 years old, and leading the league in scoring??? Be clear shouldn’t he get lead way with this??? They owe him a MVP anyway… Since this a year where there are no clear cut MVP give it to Kobe…
I’m a Kobe fan but he’s been some trash for the past couple years… Very overrated but in the public opinion (which I think because you are either a Kobe fan or LeBron no in between) (I’m a in between because I appreciate good basketball) he’s the top player… But here with all the issues you have to give it to Kobe…

The only reason he is leading the league in scoring is because he takes 23 shots a game. He is shooting at a 43% clip. He really is not playing well at all and statistically this is one of the worst seasons of his career. I dont see how him going through a divorce, being 33 years old, or D.Fish being traded has anything to do with Kobe being mvp. He has been a inefficiant and selfish player this year. He is not mvp and shouldnt be in the top 5. They dont owe Kobe anything. Lebron and Durant are both having great years, but since it is hard to choose between them we should just give it to Kobe? Yeah not going to happen.

tuck243ParticipantKobe been inefficient and a selfish player for years… But he shot 45% the year he won his only MVP… Is 43% that bad compared to that??? The MVP have been a joke for years though… Malone won and it should have went to Jordan… Steve Nash with 2??? LAUGHABLE… Writers give it to players with the best record anyway… Shaq has ONE MVP… ONE… The most dominate player of all time (other than Wilt) with ONE MVP… I’m with you it shouldn’t be Kobe but once you look at the whole landscape?? Should KD or LeBron get it??? IDK if you got Dwyane Wade and Russell Westbrook… With James Harden and Chris Bosh… It’s a toss up…
How about this Tony Parker??? Dude been next to unstoppable this entire season… In fact if I had a vote I’ll chose him…

Malik-UniversalParticipantit seems once lebron can get a few crunch time shots goin… he doesnt mind having the ball in late games
but one he misses some…. he does shy away
i remember TOL said it the best…. ever since lebron joined the heat… he has become inconsistenly clutch
sometimes he delivers… other times he doesnt…….
idc…. he can have the label of a choker….. but hes still one of the more feared players with the game on the line just cuz of the talent he brings…… and thats true
