I bought League Pass for last season (and it automatically renewed this season, wtf?) and I wanted to document how many times Blake shot an AWFUL shot from the post.   I couldn’t keep up with the season and during the summer, League Pass wasn’t available to watch old games…  SMH…  So, I was surfing YouTube and ran into this… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt-ykC6JQOM

I’m not saying Blake is a terrible player, in fact it’s scary that he’s able to dominate with an ugly post game.  But this is disgusting.  One Sunday game the Clippers played OKC, I counted 4 straight possessions where Blake got the ball on the left block and either shot a terrible shot or got bailed out with a foul.

Also, the way he throws himself into contact is 80% of the reason he’s getting fouled hard.  I also predict if he doesn’t chill out with the exaggeration of fouls, he’ll end up getting injured.  I say that because sometimes when he goes down to sell the call, he doesn’t brace himself and throws his hands up…  That’s not a natural reaction to being hit, period.  Blake doesn’t play through contact unless he initiates it and it’s normally wildly disrespectful..  The way he drops his shoulder into players or using his off hand to stop players from blocking his dunk/shot.  By looking at him this preseason, things haven’t changed.   He improved his jumper though!!!

Is it really that hard to get a low post game?  Your thoughts?

Yeah, it really is scary to think of his potential when you look at how he does things. Poor footwork, questionable shots, but really good efficiency.

    Blake Griffin – 2013-14 – 4th Season

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/griffbl01/shooting/2014/

    FG% at the rim – 736%  FG% 3-10 – 40% FG% 10-16 – 415% FG% 16 – 3 – .375% 3PT % – 25%

    Dunk % – .906% Layup % – .663% Hook Shot% – 504% Jump Shot% – .349%

    Tim Duncan – 2000-01 – 4th Season

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/duncati01/shooting/2001/

    FG% at the rim – 691% FG% 3-10 – 444% FG% 10-16 -413% FG% 16-3 – 414% 3PT% – .285%

    Dunk % – .922% Layup % – .606% Hook Shot% – .605% Jump Shot% – .374%

When comparing Griffin to possibly most skilled post player since Olajuwon, their efficiency isn’t exactly far off. How they operate is vastly differenct, but if Blake can tighten some things up then his ceiling is almost scary. His jump shooting ability to face up is probably his most encouraging part of his budding offensive game, but even if he’s ugly at times, he’s very comparable to Tim Duncan’s offensive shooting numbers during his 4th season.

    1. He is a supreme athlete (breaking news).

    2. He knows how to get great post position and attack weak points of defenses.

    3. He sets great screens which require defenses to constantly rotate and expose weak points.

    4. He can pass out of doubles.

    5. He says "give me the !@#$ ball!"
