valentineThis guy is turning into a monster every night. 24-20reb , 23-17reb, 14-13-12blk
These are numbers that dwight howard can only dream of putting up now.Dare I see hassan is the better player now?
and to think if this guy had a real point guard and played 36-40 min a game what his averages this season would look like – prob 17.5pts 12.5 reb and 2.5blks.
I say next year with more experience and confidence under his belt, he will break out and average 19pts 13.5 reb and 3blks

BogDon_KryptParticipantI say next year he average 22, 14, and 4 followed by a setback year of 8,11 and 3 followed by a 6th man of the year with 29, 7, and 7( assists)

Prime TimeParticipantWhiteside’s streak of stellar player is very similar to the whole Linsanity thing we experienced. Both are players who were never given much of a chance, and then when they got a chance, exploded with insane numbers.
With that being said, we saw what happened to Lin, so it’s definitely way too early to claim Whiteside is even close to Dwight Howard’s level.
However, the great thing about Hassan Whiteside is the fact that he’s an athletic 7-footer who is still only 25 years old. When he was drafted, everybody knew that he was a project. Big men typically take a longer time to develop, and he has all the tools to be successful. He’s starting to figure the game out, and might become a breakthrough all-star in the next couple of years.
He’s putting up insane numbers right now in the small sample size that we’ve seen. Teams will eventually gameplan for him, and he’ll have to figure that out. His current production probably isn’t maintainable over an 82-game season, however, he could still be very good once that drop-off occurs. I hope he becomes a big time player, I’m a fan of exciting post players.

Mr. HookShotParticipantSecond coming of Chandler, who also took a while to get his career going but ended up with a championship ring. The issue with athletic big men like Whiteside is that because they are that athletic they have never developed actual basketball skills or knowledge about defensive rotations, as they can always make it up with their sheir athleticism. As soon as these players play in the NBA they get exposed until they gain understanding of defensive schemes and start using their athleticism to their advantage. It takes them a while to understand how to really play the game… or they don’t and you never hear anything from these players again.

sitlbitoParticipantHe’s not a deandre jordan clone to me,just because he can finish in many other ways than Jordan,he took fade aways and mid range jump shots against boston where DJ can’t even hit a FT. Whiteside isn’t great at the line neither, but he isn’t as horrible as DJ. And that’s where I don’t agree with the second coming of Chandler idea,Chandler is much better at the line, which is the most underrated part of Tyson Chandler’s,Rudy Gobert’s and even Roy Hibbert’s games.

Mr. HookShotParticipantIn the beginning of Chandler’s career (with the Bulls and in New Orleans) he shot his free throws around 60%, which is almost what Whiteside is shooting as well. I believe that players can improve their FTs, but they have to put effort in it (which is what Chandler did, considering he shoots around 70% since leaving New Orleans). I also agree that this is what differentiates players like Chandler/Whiteside from Jordan, as he cannot shoot free throws at all. Jordan’s shooting form is horrible and it ends up in embarrasing attempts. Whiteside’s form is however pretty ok, and I can see him improving if he puts in the same effort as guys did before him.

lakesidebenParticipantI can’t remember any such similar and sudden ascension for a big man in the modern NBA. He was just getting passed up and passed around months ago, and now he is putting up huge numbers at a premium position. He would be top 30 nba trade value with an extended contract.

SpacegrassParticipantWhiteside is 25 now. That is about the age raw big men typically really start to grow and become what their potential shows. The next 6-8 years are his opportunity to make the most of the chance he has earned and cash in.

natevalParticipantHe will be an Unrestricted FA at the end of 2016. Whiteside is going to get paid! Absolutely a perfect fit in Boston

HitsterParticipantIf Pat Riley has found his long term starting C then it was a great move, I like the comparison with his current streak to that of Linsanity. Lin got a $25 million 3 year deal out of it, other slow maturing players like Brandan Wright got a $5 million a year deal, I can see Whiteside getting a nice deal in due course.
