The Kings have been ripped apart the past couple of weeks, so I just wanted to make a possitive post regarding them. Vlade has done a pretty good job so far, and their roster is coming together nicely. I personally think they will regret not taking Winslow, like 5 other teams in the lottery, but what’s done is done. As it stands they will most likely have a rotation of:

    Koufas-WCS

    Cousins

    Gay

    McLemore-Belineli

    Rondo-Collison

I’m hoping Karl realizes that this team is build for a slower pace, and opts to slow it down. The Kings were 8th in pace last year, and 27th in defense. They added Kosta and WCS to the backcourt, and both of them are great defenders with a lot of size. Kosta had his best years under Karl, and was a starter for the Nuggets team who won 57 games and over acheived by most standards. I think he’ll play him in the same role, getting the start but only playing around 20 minutes a game.

I also like the versatillity of the Kings roster. They can go big or they could go small, they could slow it down, or they could speed it up. I don’t think they make the playoffs, but they could have a winning season.

It all comes down to B-Mac in my opinion. If he can take that next step this coming year, and be a solid 15-17 ppg scoer, than the Kings could have an even more potent offense with Rondo/McLemore being a good imitation of the Rondo/Allen set plays that were used in Boston. I think Karl is a good coach, and will get the most out of this team.

There has been a lot of negativity around the Kings, but we all know how to fix that…by winning

I think the signings they made are pretty good ones.  Rondo is a low risk move with a 1yr contract.  Belinelli adds shooting which the Kings need.  Koufos is a nice big to add to their depth either as a starter or off the bench.

However, there are some concerns with the roster as it is.  First Rondo, Cousins and George Karl will need to not clash.  Rondo had issues with Dallas in part due to play calling.  Rondo also struggles to play off the ball because of his lack of shooting.  Shooting could also be a concern for the team.  McLemore only shot 32% last season.  Belinelli also had a slightly down year shooting the 3.  I think this team will be great at getting out on the break and attacking.  The versatility of the players will allow them to go big or small.  The team looks good on paper but we won’t know until we see the team play.

There hasn’t been much to look forward to in the last decade as a Kings fan, but this off-season has been the best one in a very long time.  Yea, people have been hammering the FO for giving away draft picks, but look at what those picks have been turned into.

The Kings have been in the lottery forever, and the word "potential" has been repeated ad-nauseum.  Finally, the Kings get interior defense and proven players.

The players are fine. They may win 40 games or so and be a relative success. But no, this was not a successful offseason. They have no direction. With their moves clearing cap they clearly want to win now. But they are in no position to do so at a high level. For more wins this year they gave up Stauskas, and future picks and pick swaps. Plus, while it looks good on paper, who knows how they’ll perform with that chemistry and who knows how Rondo will do.

I think the Kings definitely have a direction, they added two great front court partners for Cousins, a good three point shooter, and took a low risk chance on a PG. Not winning a championship this year or even anytime soon means nothing to fans who have watched this team struggle for years. Just competing for a playoff spot would mean the world to them. Only one team a year can win the championship.

Most of the "this team is terrible" came from two things: the trade rumors about Karl shopping Cousins, and the Stauskas trade. Yes before that people were still talking about Malone firing, but no one was proclaiming the Kings a dumpster fire. As for those two events I can say this: while the Karl and Cousins rumors are disconcerting, if they can coach and play through any resentment then it will not have mattered, and if you told me a week ago that the Stauskas trade would result in the Kings signing the players they ended up with I would have approved right then and there.

Most of the Kings perceived horrible disfunction is created by the media (most / not all), the majority of which have almost no knowledge of the Kings players or anyone in their front office.

Took a major PR hit tho.

They’re currently 28th in my official new stat – The Regular Joe Approval Rankings. Still more cred than LA and NY in living room circles tho.

This would be a great off-season for the Kings if Mike Malone was still the coach.

The George Karl drama is the biggest issue they’ve faced and this roster is not well suited to an uptempo style.

I will admit they have improved this off-season…Im just confused as a mf’er…

Karl doesnt like Cousins, so they go out and get WCS and Rondo???

Rondo is probably more of a head-case than Cousins, and even though I like WCS and his defensive potential, they reached on him in the draft and i dont think hes the brightest crayon in the box.

It will be interesting to see though. They look to be committed to building around Cousins, but if this experiment goes wrong, its going to go REALLY wrong.

there’s no "if" about it. Cousing and Rondo are probably already laying the groundwork for a mutiny.
