The greatest player(s) of this generation (imo) will be the guy who decides to start from the beginning…. bare balls, nothing to offer but a chance to create a team on his own skill/merit without asking for the help of the “big three” Nonsense” that players are asking for today. Jordan never asked for help…. neither did Bird or Magic let alone the true great players of yesterday. They willed their teams to championships and greatness without disturbing the NBA’s natural balance. Freeagency is fine, but the way these players try to pave their way to “greatness” is a joke. “I want the opportunity to win championships”… blah blah blah! They all say the same thing… well earn it! Get out there on the court without stacking the lineup and show us what you’ve got! Don’t ask for others to create greatness for you, get out there and do it the way it is suppose to be done… on the court with players that have chemistry/like one another assembled by fate/chance in a manner consistant with fair equitable sportsmanship. These modern day players aren’t sportman… they speak of how they want championships, yet ask for others to provide the means to accomplish it. The challenge is suppose to be in the competition, not what is granted or what is handed to them. Some day the real sportsman will prevail… I’m talking about ther player that make his huge NBA contract and wins without needing to be media contrived “dream team” or conjured up by players claiming to be the greatest without the basis to to annoint themselves (LeBron/Wade just as an example) Am I on to something…. or on something? Sorry… for the rant, but I’m just getting tired of the way todays NBA is run. Does anybody else feels the same way?

i feel ya bruh. thats why i think kevin durant has the opportunity to do that. signed a 5 year extension already too. no hour special to announce it either. just seems like a guy willing to be patient and work with what he has. depending on where lebron goes i wouldn’t be surprised if durant wins more than lebron at careers end.

Well the difference between Bird, Magic, and Jordan was that they also played with some amazing players. I mean come on, one of the worst teams to ever win a title was the Miami Heat, and just look at that roster. Gary Payton, Wade, Shaq, Zo, Haslem, Walker, and James Posey were all pretty damn good players. Name me a player who has won with scrubs? Because none come to mind.

Basketball is a team sport, and to win your TEAM has to be great. Not just the one player. I thought we learned that from the Pistons and Spurs of this decade. The simple fact of it is that sometimes you need more help to win.

I agree but I only have a problem when the rich get richer. Like the Lakers getting Gasol or if the Heat LBJ.

i agree wit you some mgreener 34 but even that team had 3 future hall of famers and wade im pretty sure will be in the hall of fame as well. even tho zo, payton, and shaq weren’t in their primes they still did their thing. now if lebron would’ve beat the spurs with the lineup he had i wouldve placed him behind mike for greatest ever with that team he had. that team shouldn’t have even made it out the 1st round of the playoffs imo just looking at it on paper

we all know it’s every players destinty to win as many rings as possible, esp. when one of the nba’s elite (james, wade, etc.) but some players like jordan, bird, magic johnson, etc. had some great players to play with without actually demanding more and more like mgreener said. I mean magic won a ring in his first yr, y would he havfta complain to the front office bout havin better players surround him. but at the same time, some guys become to naggy and whiney

Kevin Durant is the exact opposite of Lebron. He’s really the only Superstar on his team (Westbrook is a future All-Star, just not a Superstar) and he’s only a few pieces and a little experience away from a title. So Durant is the most likely to do what you said

Most of the guys you all are talking about had better supporting casts.

Magic, Bird, and Jordan, all had other players on their team that were legit top 5 talent in the NBA. You cant say that wade or lebron have had that.

I just see it as lebron having been dealt a bad hand, and now he’s doing what ever he can to improve his chances of winning. If he signs on with a team with another superstar or a couple all stars, he will be making a smart choice, and the right choice.

If LeBron didn’t love cleveland the descision would have been made already. He’s in a bad spot. He probably feels like he’ll be letting the city down if he doesnt come back, but at the same time he desperately wants to win a championship.

Ya’ll are being way too hard on this guy. At the end of the day this is still a buisness, and LeBron has to do whats best for him

i do agree with you cameroncrazy511 in that he was dealt a bad hand but he made it to the finals in 07 and made it to the eastren conference finals last year with a so so team and mo williams was an all star last year. they had the best record in the nba without shaq most of the year and took boston to a game 6 this year. i personally don’t think his legacy should be diminished if he decides to leave but there is no question his legacy will be greater if he stays with cleveland and wins a ring.

CamronCrazy makes a great point in saying that LeBron was dealt a bad hand. I’m not a LeBron supporter by any means, but I feel like he didn’t get the type of chances other super stars are given. If Boozer never left then thats a different story, but because LBJ was so good the Cavs never once got that high of a draft pick, so they couldn’t truly rebuild, and always had to be in a “win now” situation. Thats why every year the Cavs have what seems like a differen’t roster. If LeBron was in Durant’s situation so far, and had a good young lottery team built around him maybe things would have been differen’t.
