AderitoParticipantAfter 6 years not playing playoffs, finally Love plays for a ”good” team . And he is proving that he is not better than Antawn Jamison.
Jamison was great, with super stats in depleted Warriors teams, but then his stats never translated to good team performances.
To be honest, I think Jamison was a way better player than Love, his tenure in Washington was impressive.
And yes I know that Love can give you a lot of empty rebound, the kind of rebounds that if you dont get someone else on your team does.

ropeParticipantI was just looking at career stats last night and was surprised to see Jamison over 20,000 career points and at #40 in all time NBA scorers. (NBA only, not counting ABA). Who knew? I guess it supports your point that he has been a good player operating in the shadows of some pretty mediocre teams.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI don’t think that’s fair to say about Kevin Love. Obviously he’s a really good player and Antawn Jamison did put up some great numbers also he won the 6th man of the year award with the Dallas Mavericks so he was a very effective player on some good teams before in the past. I just think that Kevin Love has had to make the biggest sacrifice to his game for the team. It’s too early in the season I think his numbers will be on the rise soon enough. He’s just adjusting to a different role. As long as he’s on the Cavs he will never average more than 20ppg again. But he can still be a great rebounder and passer. Don’t think he will ever be the a good pick and roll defender or even a decent rim protector like Chris Bosh became though.

phila9012ParticipantIt took bosh a few years until he really clicked on the heat and that is how it is probably going to be for kevin love, Minnesota ran some of their offense through him more last year, that is happening a lot less now. The spots he gets the ball are all different now as well. He won’t have the post touches either. I don’t think we know how Love will develop just yet, give it a year or 2 and we will have a general idea where he fits.

nick5354ParticipantStill way too early I feel to start saying Love was only so good on a bad team 10 or so games into his new environment and team. I do like the Antawn Jamison hypothesis though, it is intriguing. If Love is still struggling after the All-Star break then I may start to worry but definitely not now.

Mad MaxParticipantDo you watch the games? Love has become a catch and shoot 3 point shooter pretty much in this offense. I had a bad feeling this would happen to Love, he’s draw the short end of stick considering he’s a big and Lebron and Kyrie are guards who handle the ball. It’s kinda sickning to see such a talnted player reduced to an average role. It happened to Bosh in Miami with Lebron and Wade (Kyrie), and everyone was saying omg Bosh not that good!!!!, totes overrated!!!, he can’t even!!!!!
It’s so easy and ignorant to say nope Love ain’t good, didn’t go to the playoffs. He played in a stacked western conference his entire career on teams were the second best player was who, Ricky Rubio? Seriously take a minute to think. During his time in Minnesota, Love missed a chunk of time with injuries and if it wasn’t him, it was someone else important on the team. Seriously go look at the T’Wolves rosters over the last 4 years, it’s a joke.
You probably think Borris Diaw is the best PF since he won a title right? Oh and Marco Bellinelli is actually better than Lance Stephenson too, right? Corey Joseph > Goran Dragic right?

juves4783Participanti’ve never been a huge kevin love fan. he’s a career 45% fg shooter which is just too low for my liking for a post player. he’s not a shot blocker and the more he sits on the outside, the less chances of offensive rebounds (which statistically has dropped wtih 3-pt attempts/game). i get that varajao and thompson are the guys for rebounds now but for the cost, i just don’t think you get as much value with love.
but, i may just be a hater because i was really into the idea of wiggins being on that team. i think minus love, they could’ve started irving, wiggins, james, thompson and varajao and not had as many chemistry issues since james and irving could play more selfish.
the cavs will be good either way. it’s still taking time for everyone to get their bearings. love’s stats will go up and i think he’ll find a happy median soon. the one thing nobody can ever question is his work ethic and desire to improve.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantAV and TT rebounding numbers have plummeted because Love is a better defensive rounder, only slightly but better than both AV and TT who are both in the top 12 in the League. AV top 6.

thunderjerkParticipantI think it’s more of Love playing a lot more minutes than either of them and also being a bit of a rebound theif.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantBoth were not physically imposing (despite both looking kinda athletic) 4’s who put up offensive numbers in a lot of different ways. Love is better in every way than Jamison but only by a little in some ways, but still better in all ways.
Love is a better 3pt shooter (mid-lil), 2pt shooter (lil), rebounder (lot), iso’er (lot), passer (lot), defender (very lil, in Love’s favor, both suck, both terrible weak side defenders/contesters, Love better on ball), poster (lot by default, Jamison was great in the post, had the Marion flip shot before Marion, he just seem to hate it down there).
Its early in Cleveland, IMO there is no way Love averages less than 20 points a game this year if he plays 34 minutes a game. Even yesterday with the Spurs and against Denver they force fed him in the paint on post up opportunities in an obvious iso fashion, not an option at the end of a set or to start one, just a iso post touch. They will get there he is a efficient player with every move in the books, its like a QB that "can make all the throws". They just have to find a flow that let’s everyone get touches in areas they are good in.
As a side Dion, Lebron, Love and Kyrie all love the left side of the floor. Lebron, Dion and Kyrie suck at going right on penetration and when a pick is set to there right it becomes useless.

GronounoursParticipantAs always, people start praising or criticizing a player after a few games, as if everything was said and done, and forgetting everything he did before.

HitsterParticipantAntwan Jamison had a long and successful NBA career but like a fair few players had a few years on losing teams. K-Love has been more of a puzzle to me, a moster stats filler but not able to turn it into results. He’s much better than a stats padder on a poor team but at T-Wolves he was putting up monster scoring stats not that far behind LBJ, KD etc but still didn’t get the team into contention.
Al Jefferson to a lesser degree rather like Antwan Jamison statswise, considered a great team guy ableit with a dfferent skill set only had a winning season last year.
The one guy whose output always seemed to be the most consistent against wins without being a monster scorer was probably Tim Duncan in recent years.
I’d be interested to see how people compare current K-Love to Bosh circa when he joined Miami careerwise, they are roughly the same age and have/had been in the NBA 6 or 7 years.
