Right now DraftNet has the 76ers slated to take Andrew Wiggins(#1 overall before the season) and Zach Lavine(11th currently via New Orleans)

Everyone knows it’s still early, we have the NBA trade deadline, the NCAA tourney and half the NBA season to wait out, but man is it fun watching the situation in Philadelphia up close…

We’ve made it to the bottom 3-5 range in the draft without losing any pieces minus the Jrue Holiday for Noel and the Pelican’s first round pick, we’ve got the favorite for Rookie of the Year Micheal Carter Williams playing well alongside former #2 pick Evan Turner, who’s been a suprising M.I.P candidate this year along with Memphis castoff Tony Wroten, throw in Thad Young being his usual awesome self and you’ve got the makings of a good team…Philly’s problem this year has been depth and the mistakes being made be the young players (MCW and Wroten turn the ball over a lot and we’ve got some D-Leaguers getting minutes at every position, Hollis Thompson, Brandon Davis and Lavoy Allen anyone??? Noel also hasn’t played a minute this year and MCW has been banged up, this Team will look 10x’s better when they get some depth through the Draft and Free Agency

Which brings me to my point, with all the potential already in place in Philly and their current position on Mock Draft Boards(3rd and 11th) what are some of the scenarios you see playing out for the 76ers?

We could we win the Lottery and the Pelicans pick could be as high as 8th for example.

I think picking 3rd and 10th would be absolutely fine IMO, it would allow another Team to take the riskier picks of Embiid and Wiggins at the top, then we just pick between Parker/Randle/Exum/Smart with the 3rd pick

So I’m guessing that when Turner hit that buzzer beater against Boston last week you weren’t cheering?

Yeah they have a very nice outlook for next year/the year after. The 2 picks are key, plus Noel coming back will basically give them 3 lottery picks coming into next year plus a (likely) reigning rookie of the year. That’s a serious amount of young talent (on paper anyways).

Throw in the players who’ve shown big improvements this year (Turner, Hawes, even Wroten) with Thad Young (a proven player), some solid role players, plus J Rich coming off the books. They’re obviously going to make some trades, but none of them will be pure salary dumps and Philly should get decent peices in return if they trade Turner, Young or Hawes, or at least more 1st rounders.

They won’t be good for a bit, but it’ll be awesome watching this team develop.

The Sixers also have 3 second round picks to play with as well. My dream draft would be the Sixers getting Parker and Randle in the first round and getting CJ Fair in the second. I didn’t think this scenario would be realistic before the college season started but now it may be. I know some people are down on Randle but I still think he’s a beast and if the Sixers can trade the 11th pick and their two lower second round picks to move up 3 or 4 spots I would do it for him.
Even if the Sixers made no trades at all and decided to use their late first and three second round picks it wouldn’t be the worst because I have a feeling this draft will produce a few solid NBA players in the second round.
Hinkie seems like more of an upside type of guy so Wiggins and Lavine seems more likely to happen which is not a bad thing but I’d prefer Parker and Randle.

I fear some of these top prospects not coming out to the draft tho… i.e. Parker & Embiid (which would ruin getting wiggins if not getting #1) and other freshman guys like Ennis and Selden (nbadraft.net has him not coming anway) ruining our 2nd pick being of higher quality like a Levine/Gordon.

What is the exact date that these players have to commit to the draft?

Still, this rebuild is pretty exciting.

Every lose brings us that much closer to a Top 3 Pick and back into Playoff Contention

This year’s draft should be amazing for every fan of the teams involved inthe Top 10, we could have 2 of those picks and I think our Big Board should be

    1. Jabarri Parker-Like most NBA teams in the Lottery we need a Go To Scorer and we need one NOW, I think he’s the only guy in the top 3 debate that can and will look very confrotable from day one, he’ll have his ups and down like any young player but he’s the Rookie of The Year in waiting if he declares and gets drafted by Philly to Score Points and sell tickets

    2. Joel Embiid-I’d rather not build around 2 raw big men in Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel although if Parker is gone somehow and it’s between Embiid and everyone else I’d want to draft Big in the Top 3, if they both develop into the Twin Towers of this generation I’d be one happy fan but what are the chances of that happening with Noel and Joel

    3. Andrew Wiggins-Wiggins is by all means a Top Flight prospect and we’d be happy to take him if Parker(A 20ppg scorer) and Embiid(A rare C prospect) are completely off the table, I feel like Wiggins would be another ticket seller for the 76ers, what I worry about is the Alpha mentality. Does Wiggins have the A type personality it takes to become a Great NBA player, the only guys I think have that Alpha in the Top 5 are Parker, Randle and Smart, Wiggins has looked like he’s it inside him, in Philly he’d that to survive his Rookie Contract, look at Evan Turner who has had a solid career for a guy taken #2 and buried behind Iguadola, Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday and Jodi Meeks for playing time when Doug Collins coached the team, in fact Collins punished Evan for him wanting to take Derrick Favors

    4. Dante Exum-The Australian connection may be enough for Brent Brown to convince the GM to take a risk on Exum if something crazy happens and Joel goes back to Kansas for his Sophmore year, if Exum is the real deal he instantly makes us better in transition and gives us wiggle room with Turner in free agency

    5. Julius Randle-I wouldn’t mind taking a bruiser like Randle to pair up Noel down low, somehow I feel like Randle ends up being an awesome consolation prize for someone out there, the 76ers are big game hunting though and Randle’s a guy I’d try to trade up for at 5-7 using that Pelican’s pick and a future 1st

    6. Marcus Smart-He’s got so many intangibles that you couldn’t pass on him if the other guys above are gone, he’d be one hell of a defender and slasher in the lineup, 6th man from day one and if he hits the game hard and develops a knock down jumper he’s a Starter and potential All Star

    7. Aaron Gordon-I believe Gordon is going to end up staying another year at Arizona but he declared he’d be the guy I’d want with the Pelican’s pick no matter what, I think he’ll get bigger in a few years and be one hell of a PF in the league, he’s a winner, he’s got big time athletism and a knack for making plays at both ends of the court, he’s Blake Griffin lite at best and Thad Young/AK47 2.0 at worst

    8. Noah Vonleh-Once Aaron pulls out the next guy I really want to target with the Pelican’s pick is Noah Vonleh, he’s a sneaky good prospect, a solid rebounder at the next level who can develop a nice mid range game to compliment Noel’s shot blocking and slashing, I just think he’ll be a very good pro PF/C, he’d be a guy I’d liken to Greg Monroe or Chris Bosh, scouts agree with me and bumped him up to the Top 10 range

    9. Gary Harris-We need as many skill players with a winning attitude as possible, he would compliment MCW/Wroten/Turner very well and I feel he’d be a great get at any point in the lottery, you know what you’re getting with Harris, a tough defender who can knock down the open shot and create for himself if things break down

    10. Doug McDermont-I wish I made the Wally Szerbiak comparison 1st but after watching him closer he’ll be better than Wally at the next level, he looks bigger/stronger/faster, he’s got an exellent outside jumpshot and can play in the mid range too, he’s a gamer IMO, he’ll be a 10 year pro for sure

For me it’s more like : 1. Wiggins 2. Parker 3. Randle/Embiid.                                                                              Why Wiggins ahead of Parker? You see that this Sixers team it’s going to be a nice to watch, running team. Wiggins with his creazy athleticism for me fits better to that style. The second thing is the Sixers dont want to make the playoffs because they would have to give away their pick to the Celtics ( Moultrie trade ). Parker is more ready and he can make them a playoff team next year. Wiggins is more a longterm prospect with higher potential.   Why Wiggins over Embiid? Brett Brown already told that Noel is a 5 for him. You dont want to start a running team with drafting two 7ft guys. I see the crazy the crazy potential that Embiid has but you dont want to start building a team with drafting players who dont fit to the guys you have already drafted. Randle would a much better fit to the Sixers than Embiid.                                                                                                                     Wiggins and Randle/Hood/Lavine/Gordon – thats what would make me as a Sixers fan happy.

Lol when did the future look great for them? How much people actually liked the Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters pick?(don’t really even need to mention the Anthony Bennet pick)Yeah the 76ers drafted a PG that will probably win the rookie of the year like Kyrie is,but the difference is they aren’t drafting for a role player the next year. They are drafting for a superstar.

All true, but we could also end up with the 6th pick for ours and not get the Pelicans pick at all.

There is SO MUCH variance in what can occur even if the season ended now as it currently stands simply because the lottery could get us Embiid and Lavine, or Wiggins and Vonleh, or GULP! just Aaron Gordon. LOL

One of the biggest days in the modern history and near term future for this team will occurr in late May when the lottery happens. We could be the most talented young team in the league going into next season if we continue on the current path and get a little bit of luck.

Following this situation right now is very much like watching the Phillies in the world series. It isn’t really that much fun. It is more like EXCRUCIATING pain that you can’t wait to be over, but you have to follow every development along the way. LOL

MCW has had an excellent debut season, Evan Turner is a legit MIP contender, maybe a year after several people including yours truly tipped him to win it for the 2012-13 season. Throw in Hawes and Thad and the team has a nice young score.

Looking at the team stats, the 76ers are:-

    14th ppg scored

    9th in rpg

    11th in apg

    30th in points allowed

So from that raw stat, a defensively elite player is a huge need Luckily they do have Noel to come back in due course so if they miss out on Embiid then it would not be a disaster.

If they can get a pick in the top 5 it would be excellent for them, inside the top 3 to get a shot a one of the very top prospects even better. If the Pelicans pick can come over in the 8 to 12 range as seems likely then even better. Realistically the 76ers own pick should be in the top 8 but with so many teams within a few wins of each other plus the draft lottery still to come then things can change. But even worse case scenario the 76ers should have at least one top 10 pick this summer which in a deep draft is perhaps as good or better than their 6th pick last year.

I think going for the potential guys in Wiggins and LaVine would be brilliant. Trading Evan Turner for one of the Bobcats 1st round picks would be nice too. I know MCW is probably a rookie of the year lock at this point but his shooting percentages have come down to where I expected them to be and around 40% from the field and under 30% from 3. Now going into the season there is no way I would have thought he would average 17 a game but I didn’t think the Sixers would play the fastest pace in the league and be the only Eastern conference team in the top 10.

They are also tied for 2nd to last in offensive officiency. I think even with Wiggins and a healthy Noel the Sixers would likely be in the lottery next season again. Maybe Embiid will come back and the Sixers will strike it super rich in 2015 (wishful thinking).

The bobcats and the suns have multiple draft picks I think thad and turner are good players but we need to start a new.I suggested trade hawes to the thunder for the pick from dallas  a while back now it seems everybody else is on board. The sixers are in great shape to rob this draft we have assets and this is a strong draft and in strong drafts players get overlooked that aren’t at the top. Brett has a half  of a decade to turn this around that’s what he signed for so why not go all out for this draft and next years and build from their.

I only went to one game this season I’m waiting for next year. Heres where the sixers mess up if we are going to rebuild then we should overhaul. they tried to rebuild and compete when Iverson left that was a mistake and lead us to being a 8th seed contender every year. We  can make the playoffs with turner, thad, and hawes but will never be a conteder with those guys as a core pacers rebuilt , okc overhauled , magic are rebuilding, clippers rebuilt, Even teams like the lakers , golden state and Memphis changed the looks of their teams these last few years. we need to rebuild all the way. Theirs no reason we have all these assets but own no first round picks besides the pelicans.

From what I’ve read the 2014 picks Hinkie may be looking for in trade are too expensive. Most years you can get a mid round 1 pick for a reasonable price. This year they’re too expensive. Therefore Hinkie should try to get 2015 picks instead. The other factor is, the sixers will already have at least 4 rookies on next year’s team, that’s quite enough.

I agree the sixers have a bright future but they need a few vets on the team as well. Just young guys scare me. Need at least 2 rotation guys that have been around 6 or more years. Professional type guys. Nick Collison has done wonders for OKC as well as bringing in Perkins. Look at Sacramento who has been just a collection of young talent and has struggled. Philly needs some glue guys and vets. I agree Turner or Thad should go for something but I think one needs to stay. They’ve both worked hard and know what it takes to make it in this league. Then also they should sign a veteran defensive big man.

As for the picks it is tough because if you go wing early and want a big later there aren’t many in the late lotto area. I would love to see Wiggins in a sixers uniform but of it ended up being JoJo and someone like Rodney Hood that would be a win as well.

They’ll definitely have some vets around. J-Rich will be back, he has a player option @ 6.6. He won’t get that anywhere else so he’ll be back. Of the 3 established players I would most want Thad back (if he wants to be) because he is good (maybe too good, don’t want to lose that 2015 pick), Thad is a classy guy both on and off the court. Love for him to still be here when things get good. Draft-wise, if they’re lucky and get a top 3 pick, my ranking is Embiid, Wiggins, Parker. If not, maybe they go with one of the PF’s, then follow up with Hood, Lavine (depending on first pick), and Jabari Brown or CJ Wilcox at pick 33. No doubt they’ll have to mix in some (hopefully good character) vets. It’s been a while since us sixers fans have had a reason to be optimistic. I didn’t buy that mirage from a few years ago when Collins was coaching them.

I wish they would keep Thad as well. J Rich I’m not sure is the vet they need. I was thinking more like a floor leader. High IQ guy that can help yell out rotations and such. J Rich is solid and a good presence as well. I know there aren’t many of those guys available but they could use one. There is reason to be optimistic right now but let’s see what happens. 2 top 12 picks would be great but let us see later on who is available where.

The 76ers need to score big in this draft. With the picks they have they can get a guaranteed player to produce and then do what the draft is for…take a risk on a guy with potential….when it comes to wiggins he isnt a lock because of his lack of experiemce on the perimeter and his non agressive upside and question shot. He has the potential to be a superstar or end up being a igoudala type defense first and dunks and does everything well. Not big on Randle….if he knows his role as a more athletic lamar odom type he will be okay but with small hands 6’9 in shoes and a less than impressive wingspan im not sold on the hype. I think w the third and 11 pick get a solid guy and a high risk reward….no matter what the pick. The five guys that are risk reward and then the ines you know what you get and can produce. Wiggins Smart Young Ennis and Hood. resign hawes hope for melo cause they have some nice pieces and they could be good.
