dwilks101586ParticipantMy brother and I were arguing about how much the game has changed. Mainly the money aspect. I said, " There wont ever be a team like the great bulls because the players of today are more worried about money." So i wanted to do some digging. Check me out.
1996-1997
Rk Player Salary 1 Michael Jordan $30,140,000 2 Dennis Rodman $9,000,000 3 Toni Kukoc $3,960,000 4 Ron Harper $3,840,000 5 Luc Longley $2,790,000 6 Scottie Pippen $2,250,000 2010-2011
1LeBron James$14,500,0002Chris Bosh$14,500,0003Dwyane Wade$14,200,0004You see back then if a team was a contenter and they had a big time player or a key player’s contract was coming up they would stay for less money or they would be like the spurs of old and tell players if u want to win a championship u will have to take less money.
So for example can anyone tell me how in the hell Pippen is getting less then Longley, Harper,Kukoc, and Rodman? By this time they were goin on their 5th ring and Pippen was a hugh part of that. My point is thats there’s no team in the league that has superstars or even an all stars on it were only one player was getting paid and the other or others are playing for pennies.
Future Thinking:
Serge and Harden are up for ext after next year. They already have two max players in Westbrook and KD. When it’s time to paid them, will OKC have the money to paid?
The Heats Big 3 (43.2 Million)
96-97 Bulls Big 3 (41.39 Million)
How the only reason why its close is because MJ was making 30Mill but they still had a team of good role players.
Let me know what you guys think

JunkYardDogParticipantYou can’t compare salary cap from teams playing in different decades… especially 90’s and 10’s. It’s ridiculous… things have changed so much from a pure economical point of view. This is like trying to compare teams from different countries.
In the 90’s there were players benefiting from a huge economical growth (rookies and re-negociating contracts) and there were players stuck with bad deals…
Dennis rodman was well paid (at that time 9M was a good salary 🙂 ) cause he only got 1 year deals and was succeeding (as if chandler would have accepted this 20M $ 1 year deal cuban offered him last summer). Pippen was in an open conflict with bulls management, for years, about this salary (nearly dealt against eddie jones or charles barkley) as kemp was with seattle (about McIllvaine salary) .

dwilks101586ParticipantAnd pippen stayed because he was at the end of his prime when he when to the blazers. I know about rodman so what if those player were playing in today’s game?

JunkYardDogParticipantIt would depend on their teams…
Rodman could get some 10 to 12 M $ deals (1 or 2 years deals with Teams option)… but not so much more cause now centers are overpaid and he would still be a dangerous bet.
Pippen would get 15 to 20 M $ deals (long term deal)… but he already could have got this kind of money in the 90’s if he had played in another less successful team. Whereas kukoc would surely be a 10 to 12M $ player (à la gallinari).
The man who would benefit the most from playing nowadays would be Longley cause he’s big and enough skilled to get money. He would be a 9 M $ player (the kind of money he got after his bulls years).
Jordan would still be a 30M bargain….

PabloFiascoParticipantNo comparison dude…Michael was gettin $30 million that’s not happening nowadays and he didn’t play with 2 other superstars

llperezthe salaries in the early to mid 90’s were all over the place. You had superstars making less then scrubs. Its becasue some guys were playing on old contracts before the salaries skyrocketed so guys with newer contracts were getting paid more then vets on old deals.
