Titilating night in the NBA Worst Record Department.  Nets on a winning tear of late have won in vain, securing the Celtics the number 1 worst record award with wins of the Lakers and Suns. Second and Third worst record got closer to being determined.  Suns needed to lose one of last two games for a share of 2nd worst but began by winning at home to Mavs.  Determined to build on their all rookie team efforts the Suns have back to back wins to the Thunder and Mavs throwing care to the wind for Worst Record runner up award.  Only the Lakers late game heroics against the T.Wolves stymied the Suns attempt to move out of 2nd worst and guarantees a tie at best in W/L column.  Lakers lose their last two and a Suns win is a season ending tie but anything different is a Nets/Suns/Lakers worst record finish.  Lakers on the line to get that third pick or lose it to 76ers.  So…. Let the confusion begin

Celtics (via Nets) have the best chance of any single team winning the lottery at 25 percent   yet they have nearly a 40 percent chance of another team winning the draft instead.

Suns and Lakers tie.  Both teams get equal combinations of ping pong balls in the lottery selection.  So if per say Mavericks win the draft the Suns and Lakers would have an equal chance of winning 2nd or 3rd behind the Celtics with the best chance to win 2nd or 3rd

If the Mav as the example above win the lottery and the Magic would happen to win the 2nd pick the Celtics have the best chance at the 3rd pick followed by the Suns/Lakers.  Lakers would have to win 3rd to keep their pick.

The craziest of all outcomes is three teams supplanting the Celtics, Sun and Lakers with the Suns/Lakers tied.  Let alone two of the bottom 13 coming out to beat the odds this would land the Celtics 4th but would it land the Suns 5th and the 76ers (via Lakers) 6th OR the 76ers 5th and the Suns 6th since the Suns and Lakers have the tie in standings and odds?  It might have to come down to W/L record with Suns/Lakers head to head.  Yet is it the winning team of their games or the loser of their games head to head the decider in this unlikely scenario?

I dont have all the info but dont know where to find it.  Anyone have the knowledge feel free to share…. Next State of the Tank:  CONSPIRACY THEORY !!!

In the event of identical records at the end of the season for lottery teams, there’s a coin flip to see who gets the better odds.

For the lottery that’s only if they tie at a position where there is an odd number of lottery combinations then the coin flip winner gets the one additional combination. Teams that tie at a position where there is an even number of combinations split them 50/50 with no coin flip. After the lottery has concluded all teams that didn’t win are placed in order with a coin flip breaking ties.

Haven’t been watching lakers much, got my fix with college ball this year. But I have caught some games recently as well as highlights. This team is in a tough spot. Odds are we lose the pick. We have lots of solid young guys in clarkson, druss, Randle, Ingram, nance and zubaca. But none of them show signs of being a star yet. The growth of Russ and Randle this year was lackluster. And who knows how much it will cost to keep all of them while also trying to get better. And boy do those dang and mozgovdeals look bad now. Both guys averaged 7ppg in limited roles and both appear to be bench players going forward yet they will combine to make over 30 million a year for the next 3 years all while the younger guys will be taking turns trying to get their own deals. Not the best of positions to be in but keeping the pickqould be huge if that plays out. And to think we traded this pick so we could drag the carcass of the player formerly known as Steve Nash out there. How did the pick end up in philly anyways? Imagine if the suns kept it they would be sitting pretty right now.

As I said in recent post, and I had some agreement, Brandon Ingram’s play recently makes him look like a future star. I expect Russell and Clarkson to be very solid starters. Randle is a no. I’d move him. He’s too big of a defensive liability, turns the ball over way too much, and takes over the ball more than needed. He’s got flashes of brilliance occasionally, but his problems are consistent. Trade him. Nance is their best +/- guy and a good team player. I think they need a Nerlens Noel or Willy Cauley Stein more than they need a top draft pick.

They need defense and athleticism. Hence: goodbye Randle.

If they just go with draft, I’d like them to take Josh Johnson 3rd and Johnathan Jeanne 27th. Jeanne is mentioned on other prominent mocks in the 1st round. 7’2", 7’6" wingspan and runs like a gazelle. Blocks 5.6 shots per 40 minutes. Quick and lengthy: it’s all he’s got, but they could teach him to play basketball and hit the gym. God knows they have no one close to those physical skills.

if the lakers fall out of the top 3, I would consider moving moving Randle for some assets in the future. They have a nice core, but Randle’s defense is a problem like you said.

Lakers fans admitting that they no longer watch the Lakers play,  or are openly wanting them to lose.   The showtime shine is gone.
