220ParticipantThe Pistons have just fired Stan Van Gundy. I’m not sure where they go from here. They have little to no cap space along with two large contract injury prone players in Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson. I wonder if the team moves forward with the roster as is or if the new GM tries to start over. I imagine they’ll have trouble moving their big pieces and will largely have to go forward with the roster they have.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantWooow !! Huge news… Not sure where they go, but I think they have a coach in mind. I am thinking Bud or Mark jackson

Reptilian MonkParticipantThey better hope the Drummond, Griffin, Jackson big 3 works out. I dont see them going far with this roster and giving up draft assets but hopefully guys like Stanley Johnson and Luke Kennard develop for them

ChoppyParticipantI think the acquisition of Griffin will see us better able to handle any Reggie Jackson injuries as he can handle and pass effectively. Further development from Kennard is possible. A 42% 3pt shooter, he showed towards the back end of the season he can do a bit of playmaking too, much like he did at Duke. I’ve given up hoping for a breakout year from Stanley Johnson. All I’ve got my fingers crossed for is above 30% 3pt shooting. At this stage, he’s a shorter, less athletic Josh Smith…

220ParticipantThe challenge is that Blake Griffin is just as injury prone as Reggie Jackson. It’s hardly ideal to have two of your three highest players be injury prone.

cohenbc1ParticipantI’d be surprised if Budenholzer or Jackson want anything to do with this roster of untradeable underachievers.
Maybe Mike Woodson is a good fit, if he had a good relationship with Griffin during their time in LA?

Andv1 WaitingParticipantI guess Stan probably gave him I want both roles or no roles sort of move and it failed..
The problem with the pistons was he inhertied a trash roster from Dumars which didn’t help his cause….Meaning he was trying to dig himself out of a hole from day 1.
They have two options blow things completely up- Trade players and maybe either future picks or young talent to get expiring or way cheaper deals.
or
Ride with this roster and then let some of then hope like hell something good happens in the immediate future as they have no cap room until 2021…
I wouldn’t mind seeing Stan in one of the following teams:
OKC,Bucks or Suns(eventually as if they draft the big from arizona he could run his system with Booker)

CoachWyersParticipantI think David Griffin GM and Jerry Stackhouse as Coach. With some dominoes falling already this is how I see open jobs being filled:
Atlanta- Nate Tibbetts
Charlotte- Will be either Ettore Messina (Kupcheck high on) or Jay Larranga
Milwaukee- Mike Budenholzer
Orlando- Nick Nurse (Had Stackhouse here before, but Stackhouse and Budenholzer are said to be atop Pistons list and I think Budenholzer would take Milwaukee over Detroit. Also think if given his choice Stackhouse would take Pistons over Magic)0- Posted on: Mon, 05/07/2018 - 4:17pm #1116465

ChoppyParticipantForgot about David Griffin… I like where your heads at.

OhCanada-ParticipantStackhouse turned down some HC jobs last year because they werent good fits I doubt he would decide to go to a bad situation in Detroit. He seems content taking his time for the right oppurtunity to present itself and the Pistons are just full of players with bad habits and big egos.

RicoParticipantMark Jackson and Griffin have beef. So you can forget about that one.

r377ParticipantWe need Laimbeer – he won two champs as wnba coach

HitsterParticipantDavid Griffin to run the front office and I’d look at Chauncy Billups as Head Coach but if Griffin went in would he maybe look to David Blatt who he hied at the Cavs.
With both posts up for grabs might the Pistons look at a top level college coach who may want both role?
Detroit are fairly tied up for cap over the next couple of years and cashing in on Drummond doesn’t make sense. I feel they need to play to their strengths which is one of the best frontcourts out East. Griffin and Drummond work well as a duo and Griffin has refined his game by becoming a better 3 point shooter and expanding his passing duties. However his ongoing durability against his big contract is a major concern.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantIf they’re sticking with this roster, Steve Clifford would be a logical coaching choice. He runs a system very similar to SVG’s and gets the most out of his players. 3 years of him while they’re capped out to see what this team can be, then decide which direction you want to go in as a franchise.

Mr. JewboyParticipantTalking about all these coaching jobs and people to fill them out, what about David Blatt? His first and only year in the NBA he reached the Finals and even took 2 games with no Love Or Kyrie
In Europe he is just amazing : has won a Euroleague title, the Eurobasket with Russia, and this past year has won the EuroCup. The guy wins everywhere he goes. I may be biased, but I definitely would give him a chance. What do you think?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/08/2018 - 3:44pm #1116524
CoachWyersParticipantI thought Blatt was going to get the Knicks job.
Pistons said they won’t go with dual role again will be hiring two people a front office person and a coach. Never have heard of Billups as a coaching candidate only in front office positions.
