Never would’ve imagined he’d actually request a trade, even after all the behind the scenes stuff. The draft just got 100x more interesting and this offseason will change the landscape of the NBA for the foreseeable future

East.  Saw a LA snippet that purposed Leonard to Lakers.  Can’t see Spurs helping build a big 3 in LA.  Saw Cavs trade rumor.  #8 + Love for Leonard.

Aldridge, Love, and Gasol on the same roster making $60m/yr? I can’t see San Antonio doing that.

As a Spurs fan I would actually be pretty psyched if we came out of this with Ingram, Kuzma and the ghost of Luol Deng for Kawhi. (Not Ball, please. He and Murray can’t play together until one becomes an excellent shooter, which is probably a couple years away at least.)

The only idea I like better, among those I’ve read, is Kawhi and Rudy Gay to Toronto for DeRozan, Anunoby and Siakam. But that requires Rudy to opt in to his final year, which I don’t think he’ll do. Someone will offer him a three-year deal based on his performance this past season.

When you think about it, adding Ingram + Kuzma to a 47-win team is pretty exciting.

Doubt the Spurs get Ingram and Kuzma…He’s already said he wants out, it hurts his value. AND he’s a FA end of the season. Lakers can just say "wait till next summer"

True, but there would be risk for the Lakers in that scenario. Especially if they are going for the LeBron/Kawhi/PG13 trifecfta. What if the Spurs trade him to, say, Boston for Kyrie Irving and the Celtics win the championship. Then maybe Kawhi decides he likes it in Boston.

Boston would not take that risk… The only way Boston makes a trade for Kawhi is if Kawhi committed to re-signing with them.

Kawhi has all the leverage here. No team trying to win is going to give up anything significant to rent Kawhi for one season.

Given his health, contract situation and the fact that he’s requested a trade I can’t see SA getting anything close to full value for him. There’s probably only 3 or 4 teams that have the cap space to take him on without gutting their whole teams.

Didn’t I say that like a month ago that PG13, Lebron and Kawhi could happen, nobody believed it to be realistic then, but it could happen now. This will be an interesting summer.. If they get those 3, I’d pick them to be favorite over the Warriors.. PG and Kawhi on Durant would actually slow him down alot

LeBron won’t go west. He wants to keep his finals streak alive, and being in the same conference as the Warriors, it ain’t gonna happen.

If Kawhi says he’ll likely walk next summer and with his injury issues his trade value isn’t as high as what it would have been. If you think along the lines of PG13 trade and why should Spurs help Kawhi land at his favoured destination if another team comes in with a better offer.

The Cavs and 76ers may be very interested and the 8th and 10th picks immediately come into play as part of any deal. The Spurs would want best possible deal but in a deep draft there must be players they like the look of and may thus be more prepared to do a deal.

I’d even throw Boston in if they decided to dangle Hayward if he is recovering well and a future pick. That way Spurs get a proven replacement who is under contract and a decent asset.

There’s nothing official or substantiated there, just more of what’s been reported for months (though I would believe he wants out). Not sure where most of y’all are from, but here in Texas we have no state taxes and an incredibly low cost of living (especially in SA), and when you combine that with the supermax the Spurs can offer, Leonard would be leaving A TON of money on the table if he left.

One move the Spurs could make is to tell Kawhi, We’ll trade you to a contender before the deadline, but first you have to raise your value by starting the season with us, proving you’re healthy and not a basket case/hypochondriac.

If Kawhi claims he’s 100%, he can’t just throw a hissy fit and refuse to play for the team that made him what he is. I mean he could, but he’d be the most hated player in the league.

If he does start the season with the Spurs, as the trading deadline nears all the teams that want him — which would be pretty much every contending team — might get nervous. They know that if the deadline passes, he’s a lock to sign with the Lakers in the offseason. Their only chance is to get him now and convince him to stay (most likely by winning a title or coming really close).  Maybe they would start to sweeten the pot, and the Lakers would feel like they had to make a move before the deadline too.

Of course the down side is that we would find out there really is something wrong with Kawhi, physically and/or mentally. Then the Spurs would be really screwed. But they’re also screwed as long as teams are lowballing them.

There’s also the conventional wisdom that says a team can’t play with a guy who openly doesn’t want to be there. I’m not so sure about that. They’re all professionals who know what’s up. They can understand the game’s a business and still play to win.

Its hard for me to imagine the spurs will be willing trade him to a western conference team. I think they will try to avoid it at all costs. Here are the teams I’m watching.

Celtics: could certainly make the most complelling offer if they wanted to but how much are they willing to risk that Leonard resigns considering that he’s a Lakers fan.

Raptors: some package of derozan, valanciunas, anuoby and picks might be possible.

Wizards: Wall or Beal/Porter for Leonard deal if Wizards wanted to roll dice next season

    Knicks: Zinger/Noah for Leonard trade

Philly: Saric, Fultz, Covington and No.10 for Leonard. Probably not enough

Pistons: Griffin, future picks for Leonard + Gay. Just an idea

Cavs: Love and nets pick for Leonard

I don‘t really see Fultz as the type of player the Spurs would like but overall a Kawhi along with Embiied and Simmons looks fantastic. The loss of Convington would hurt as he is really a underrated player to me and fame a long way what I respect and value highly.

not a bad offer overall if the Spurs like Fultz and the pick of maybe another one. Saric is really a player the Spurs would use perfectly.

If the Spurs like Fultz, that is a good deal. Saric is a Spurs type of player. Maybe add in another first round pick. Not sure that’s good for the Sixers though when they could just sign a guy and keep the other guys and draft picks.

I don’t care where he wants to go. He won’t sign an extension,  so every team risks him leaving after one year. Killing his value. So Spurs will trade him to whoever offers the most.

The Spurs might consider an offer of Tobias Harris, Patrick Beverley and the two late lottery picks. Although all the Eastern Conference contenders probably have more to offer.

(On second thought, did anyone realize that Tobias Harris averaged 19, 6 and 3 with the Clippers last year, with shooting percentages of 47/41/80? And he’s only 25? It seems like he’s been in the league for a decade somehow).

     report ——

The Clippers will pursue Kawhi Leonard, according to Brand Turner of the Los Angeles Times.

Boban and Kawhi reunion? Additionally, the Celtics are also expected to pursue Kawhi, and Adrian Wojnarowski mentioned Jaylen Brown as a possible asset thrown in a potential deal. Leonard reportedly would like to go to Los Angeles, so maybe the Clippers can somehow put a package together with the No. 12 and 13 picks.

Wonder if the Knicks might have a look they have 9th pick and could possibly put a deal together.

A lot will depend on how Popps and Burford handle this, we know they won’t accept a bad deal but with a strong draft coming up and Kawhi’s contract ticking down they may have to deal sooner rather than later if he is likely to walk next summer.

There is below market value and not getting anything back at all.

    Lakers: Ingram with 25th pick

Clippers: Tobias Harris with 12th and 13th pick

76ers: Fultz or Saric with 10th pick

Nuggets: Gary Harris + Juan Hernangomez with 14th pick (they showed interest in PG)

I get Boston stuff, but they really don’t need him. I know people are going to say how talented he is etc, but I think they should stay consistent with their chemistry.

The Ringer are reporting that the Suns are looking at a deal revolving around their number 1 pick. If I’m the Spurs, I think that the Suns have the best package of assets to put together…so I think I’m going all in and looking for a deal like:

    Leonard&Aldridge (+maybe picks)

    For

    Ayton, Booker, Knight, Chandler, Dudley

I think the #1 is probably the top asset available out there, followed by Ingram, followed by Booker. Therefore, I think my starting position is ‘how can I flip anyone apart from Dejounte Murray for Booker and Ayton…?’ It’s tricky (and unlikely) but the chance to pick up a top 3 player via trade really don’t come around very often!

The Suns aren’t going to trade Booker and First pick in any deal!

But the Spurs could be canny enough to try and maximize any deal by including LMA as he had another excellent season but turns 33 next month and is due $72 million over the next 3 years. By packaging them also it giving Kawhi a top team mate who he knows.

Combined they have $42 million in salary so a team would need a lot of cap space or acceptable contracts back.

The Cavs immediately spring to mind with Hill and his very large unguaranteed deal for 2019-20, K-Love has a player option next summer so would want a mega deal or could move on. Some combo of Hill, K-Love, Zizic, 8th pick, TT and JR Smith could get the deal done.

The Spurs move Kawhi out East get a top 8 pick, K-Love/TT or very nice team option contracts.

Cavs have delivered LBJ – Kawhi and LMA so that could tempt him to say.

Boston did well minus Hayward and Irving so how about LMA and Kawhi for Hayward and Irving. Spurs might look to include Pau Gasol and Boston send Morris the other way.

Boston have core of Horford, LMA, Kawhi, Brown, Tatum plus resigned Smart, Rozier and co.

Spurs get Hayward who is their type of player plus Kyrie who would really be the main man there and they could resign him and he fills their PG slot.

I’m not a fan of that Cavs deal – mainly because it involves acquiring Kevin Love and the 8th pick is too low for me!

      Spurs counteroffer to the Suns:

      Ayton, Jackson, Bender/Chriss, Dudley, Chandler

      for Leonard and Aldridge

Whaddayasay? You get to roll out a lineup of Knight, Booker, Warren, Leonard and Aldridge. Small-ball heaven!

And I also think I’d take that Boston deal – one year of Kyrie/Kawhi cancels each other out, and whilst there’s obvious injury flags on Hayward’s huge contract, better that than Aldridge! I’d also be trying to flip Murray (if this was the case) for another asset – the Suns might again be a contender as they’re one of the few teams without a PG they’re happy with!

How do we judge Kawhi’s trade value at the moment, he only played 9 games last season and if there are injury issues along with the fact he will be a FA next summer.

Would his value effectively be anymore than the Pacers got for PG13 last summer?

The Pacers like the Spurs have a good Front Office so they would have likely taken best deal.

The Spurs will be reluctant to put Kawhi onto a rival and with Popps pushing 70, would be want to go through full rebuild unless he got a couldn’t miss talent so the Spurs may look for established talent as much as draft picks.
