Soulrebel15ParticipantAll-Star point guard Deron Williams has made one decision about his free agency: If the Brooklyn Nets win the No. 1 pick in the NBA’s draft lottery on Wednesday night – and the chance to secure Kentucky center Anthony Davis – it won’t be enough for Williams to sign a contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
"IWilliams doesn’t want to stay with the Nets unless they become an instant Eastern Conference contender and wouldn’t accept waiting for Davis’ development. The Nets have a 7.5 percent chance of winning the lottery, and sources said the organization would be willing to part with Davis for the chance to pair Howard and Williams for the franchise’s move into a new Brooklyn arena next season.t’s Dwight Howard or bust," said a league source who has spoken to Williams.
For the Nets to beat the odds and get the rights to draft Davis, they believe that they’ll be able to hold onto forward Brook Lopez in a potential deal with Orlando. Howard regrets forgoing his early termination option on his 2012-13 contract, sources said, and wants a trade before next season. Nevertheless, the Nets become far less appealing should Williams leave in July as a free agent, so Howard’s camp is applying pressure on Orlando to expedite a deal once it hires a new general manager.
Orlando ownership has softened on moving Howard and doesn’t want to spend another season pleading with him to sign an extension. The organization’s preference is to get the best possible trade package for him and start retooling the franchise. Nevertheless, the Magic will give a new GM some latitude to navigate Howard’s future once he’s hired. Several of the potential GM candidates in Orlando have already been devising trade scenarios for Howard and plan to propose those ideas to Orlando president Alex Martins in the interview process.
Unless the Nets get one of the top three picks in the lottery, the Portland Trail Blazers will own Brooklyn’s 2012 choice. The Nets made a trade deadline deal for forward Gerald Wallace, whom they hoped would help convince Williams to stay as a free agent. Nevertheless, Williams has been largely unmoved by the potential free agent and trade scenarios that don’t include Howard joining him in Brooklyn.

aamir543ParticipantWell, yes, this is what we all assumed, but indirectly it’s might be enough, think about it, if the Nets keep Davis, they lose Williams, but if they deal Davis, Lopez, and Brooks for Dwight, they keep Williams. I don’t know whether the two sides would reach a deal under that scenario, but they would definatly be in talks about it.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantIf they get the #1st pick Orlando would have to seriously consider trading Howard to them for a package including it. Even at the cost of not being able to get rid of Turk’s contract in the process.
Dwight and Ryan Anderson (who i think is more effective playing off Howard and wouldn’t be as good a fit next to his buddy Lopez) for a resigned Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks, Brook Lopez and Anthony Davis would be a good young haul for us and would give NJ the salary flexibility to keep Wallace. The Nets would be instant contenders with Deron, D12, Wallace and Anderson, with Morrow spacing the floor as a shooter (their major weakness would be depth). And the Magic would have a good young core for the future in Lopez, Brooks and Davis.

SoilworkerParticipantWhat role can have Bojan Bogdanovic in this scenario? The Nets could give their rights in a possible deal? or stay with them and let Brooks go?

benny15Participanti said it before in another thread, this reminds me so much of when Orlando had that terrible season and T-Mac said he did not want to wait for Dwight to develop and Emeka wasnt good enough to elevate them to the next level. simillar situation, but with one major difference, Deron’s a free agent. if ever New Jersey does win the lotto, will they keep Anthony Davis and rebuild with him, a resigned Lopez comming of an injury season and whatever young talent they may still have or go all in with their chips with Deron and Dwight? Normally, you would go with the young talent group since why would you like to retain a disgruntled talent who trys to bully his way into decisions of the management, but is loosing both Deron and Dwight worth it?

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf I were Orlando I would take Brook Lopez and Anthony Davis for Dwight Howard if the Nets end up getting top pick. I think that they could put Ryan Anderson at the 3 which would give them a front line of Lopez, Anthony Davis, and Ryan Anderson with Big Baby off the bench. … Orlando might ask for another player, or just for the Nets to take Hedo’s contract. Marshon Brooks would be nice too, but getting AD is the big thing with Lopez another great addition.
The best deal would be Orlando getting Anthony Davis, Brook Lopez, the Nets’ 57th pick, and a future second round pick. The Nets get Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu. Orlando gets a great front line for the future, and a few late draft picks, plus they get rid of Hedo’s contract. The Nets get a guy to pair with Deron Williams. They also get Hedo Turkoglu who makes sense as a 4th or 5th option since he can score, pass and rebound. If they resign Gerald Wallace (and Gerald Green who won’t make too much) then they have a nice core of Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Marshon Brooks, Gerald Wallace, Hedo Turkoglu, Kris Humphries, and Gerald Green.
The Magic could use Marshon Brooks too but I am not sure if the Nets would throw him in the deal.
The Magic might find a steal at the 57th pick or with a future 2nd rounder (to go along with their own pick at 19 and another one at 49) or they could trade the two Nets 2nd round picks for cash.
I think that both teams really win with this deal.

aamir543Participant^You bring up an interesting point with Anderson, Davis, and Lopez all being on the floor at the same time, Davis will have to defend threes, and Anderson will have to be on the wing on offense. It might work, but than you have to depend on Davis to also do some wing oriented stuff, hopefully he can do it.

Memphis MadnessParticipantaamir,
I think Ryan Anderson can play like Hedo a bit. Hedo was a stretch four who also played the 3.
I think Anthony Davis might actually be better defending small forwards until he grows into his frame.
Coach Cal also said that they might want to play AD at the 3 until he fills out.
An AD, Lopez, and Ryan Anderson front line would be unorthodox but it could really work. Lopez can really score, while AD can rebound, block shots, and defend multiple positions. Ryan Anderson can score, rebound, and hit 3’s. AD and Lopez can each play the 4 or the 5. Then you have Big Baby off the bench who could come in for any of those 3 starters (you could then put Anthony Davis at the 3 with Big Baby at the 4 and Lopez at the five). I think that AD will be most effective next to a scoring big man who can also help out on the boards. That would define Brook Lopez. Then the Magic also have some more shooters and playmakers to put around Davis.
They still have their own picks at 19 and 49 to add some more players plus the 57th pick in my trade scenario. They could go with a young point guard like Teague or take a flyer on Tony Wroten if he is there. Or they could go for a shooter like John Jenkins or Doron Lamb. If they need a small forward they could go with Moe Harkless or Jeffrey Taylor. Then use the 49th pick for up front depth if they don’t resign Daniel Orton. Take a guy at 57 and stash him in Europe or trade the pick for some cash.

aamir543Participant^I don’t think so, he may have played the three at times but he would have an incredibly difficult time guarding threes and his handles are no where near Hedo’s. Turkoglu was a great point foward in his prime, Anderson is a shooting big man that camps at the three point land. He might be able to play the three on offense because he hangs around the perimeter, but he’s not nearly quick enough to guard 3s.
