Ersan was really having a solid season in Philly. I thought he was a player they could move forward with but instead they decided to move him to Atlanta for Tiago Splitter and two second round picks (or at least one and the right to swap the details are murky yet).

Saric can move into the starting 4 role no problem and is really just a better younger Ilyasova so it isn’t a terrible move. Ersan is a better shooter (though cold lately) but that is as far as it goes. I liked him in the starting lineup next to Embiid with Saric coming off the bench but moving forward the versatility Ben Simmons will bring to the lineup helps overcome this move.

Essentially they moved Grant for a 2020 1st rounder from OKC and now a 2nd rounder that might be the 31st overall pick if it belongs to the Nets as rumored. If they can target somebody like Josh Hart that would improve their roster balance and is mocked there right now this trade would certainly be worth it considering they probably weren’t bringing back Ilyasova either way.

If the Lakers pick comes to Philly this opens up someone like Jonothan Isaac on the Sixers draft board that wouldn’t be as much as a roster logjam anymore.

I’m a bit surprised they have moved him on as he looked a very good fit alongside Embeast and Saric coming from the bench looked a nice combo. When he first went there I just assumed a rental and possible flip on for another asset but he had settled so well and with all the Oak/Noel rumours I thought they should actually look to retain him.

We don’t know if any money was mentioned or what Ersan’s asking price was. Also Saric can play there and could this be a move to create court time for Ben Simmons who isn’t far away from playing.

Word is Chicago is trying to get them to take back Mirotic for Jahlil. This could be a precursor to another deal tomorrow.

If it is for the Brooklyn 2nd rounder, then it’s not hard to see why they moved on. That would give them an opportunity to draft for need, or steal a quality talent that slips out of the first round for whatever reason.

The Brooklyn 2nd rounder will likely be 31st pick so a contender might look at that and flip it for their late first rounder as it gives options as regards guaranteed deals. Plus if teams are looking to buy into the draft, Philly could make an easy $3 million from it.

Illyasova gets traded for what seems like about the fifth time this year. He was actually having a really good year for philly but with saric, Simmons and noel all requiring mins at the pf spot it really didn’t make sense to keep him around long term. He should be able to help Atlanta push for playoff seeding down the stretch and they were able to dump splitter, who basically did nothing in his time there and might not ever play in the NBA again.

Good move for both teams imo.
