How important are Chalmers and Pittman for the Heat’s quest for glory. Are they seen as developmental role players that they’ll groom to eventually become the counterparts alongside the “big 3”, on their starting lineup for the future. Or will they be merely pieces for the short term until someone of better quality comes along?

Chamlers is going to have 2 step up. Right now even though they have a big 3 . I Doubt they can win a championship with teams having deeper teams. If shaq joins the celtics and CP3 Comes 2 Orlando. They should really be scared. Pittman is going to have 2 play like a Vet for sure and least be a Defensive presence in the post , like a Kendrick perkins type player. Chalmers going to have 2 shoot the ball exceptionally well with 2 great playmaker, and scorers. Defensive will collapse at times and when the ball is kicked 2 chamlers he has 2 hit that shot

Chalmers projects possibly as the PG of the future but at this point not much is expected out of Pittman. I doubt he even gets much if any playing time this year with Juwan Howard, Magloire, Haslem, Big Z, and Joel Anthony ahead of him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pittman in the D-league this year. He just doesn’t bring much as of now. He needs to get in shape above anything else first.

I think both will be required to play 10 min on any night. I think they will be solid and strong enough to play for 10 min. They should be relied on for solid defense and some rebounding.

Edit: I thought you said Varando and Pittman. Chalmers will just be a 20 min guy who shouldn’t turn the ball over and play defense.

Chalmers’ ability to make open shots, get the ball in the hands of the playmakers, and play off the ball will be value. Especially if he keeps TO’s down, which is a safe bet.

Pittman won’t play much. He plays too weak right now for his size, is a sluggish defender, TERRIBLE finisher when met with contact or when contested, and can be outrebounded by athletic bigs or wide bodies (AKA most of the bigs in the NBA lol). Joel Anthony, Udonis Haslem and Magloire should all make up the C spots. Pittman is at least a year and a half away from factoring.

Juwan Howard should be good for the Heat too.

He was solid for the Blazers last year and can provide 10-15 meaningful minutes.

Well Chalmers was giving the starting spot after he complimented Wade so well his rookie year…
His outside shooting allowed Wade to penetrate ,dish or create plays for teammates..
But last season teams adjusted their defenses to stop his game..Chalmers struggled with his shot…And when his shot wasnt falling,he was no good to the team..And he was benched..
Pittman is a year or 2 from being a factor..
I’m not really impressed with the role players the Heat have signed..Mike Miller,Juwan Howard,James Jones & Big Z all have been on the decline the pass few years…

The only way pittman serves a purpose/role on the team is if they meet Orlando in the playoffs, I think him and his 6 fouls could be efficent in the hack a Howard, but even that is giving him credit by suggesting he will dress to preform this”great and exciting to watch” basketball strategy

^^ With Chris Bosh, Juwan Howard, Udonis Haslem, Zydrunas Ilgauskus, Jamaal Magloire, and Joel Anthony that’s already 6 men for 2 positions, so yeah even if they face Orlando he won’t even be on the active roster. If all you need is fouls that’s something Anthony, Magloire, and even Big Z can do and they have at least proven on the NBA level to be able to hold ground. Even LeBron can play some PF at times against Orlando since SVG loves playing Rashard Lewis at the 4. At this point I don’t even know if Pittman could box out Brandon Bass. As big as he is, Pittman is extremely poor at this point in post defense and isn’t as strong as his body might suggest. He just needs to spend the year in the D-league getting in better shape and getting stronger. To be honest I don’t see him getting any playing time the next 2 years baring some major injuries.

Not in any way bashing Pittman because he has some nice skills and touch for such a big guy but he’s much more of a project than people realize. If they were thinking immediate impact they would have taken a guy like Hamady Ndiaye who specializes in rebounding and shot blocking and could step into that situational role. Pittman is a complete project and to be honest I think they could have had him with their 41st or 42nd pick had they waited instead of at 32. I think they will really regret passing up on Hassan Whiteside as a project or guys who could have been instead role players this year like Terrico White and Gani Lawal. Now of course at the time they had no idea they’d be getting Bosh and LeBron but I don’t think having these guys really changes draft opinion. But hey I’d love Pittman to prove me wrong but if guys like Mike Sweetney, Lonny Baxter, Travis Watson, etc, can’t make it in the league despite being superior basketball players and being in better shape, I have a hard time believing Pittman can make it. The key for him first is to work hard just to make sure he can handle running up and down the floor. I am rooting for him though with how much weight he’s already lost since arriving in Austin.
