Bill Self is correct.  The Kansas guards haven’t been making Wiggins better.

Self: "I don’t think our guards do anything to help [Wiggins] right now."

Isn’t Wiggins supposed to be making his teammates better rather than the other way around?

Wiggins does make his teammates better.  It’s not his fault for all of the turnovers committed by his guards.

Ah okay.  I don’t watch any KU games so I’m shakey on the details.

What he said is just as obvious as if he had just said "we lost". Everyone could see that issue.

They are 24th overall in the NCAA in field goal percentage but 100th overall in points. They are shooting just 31% from three point range- which is 266th in the NCAA. Pretty soon, teams are just going to sit in a zone against them until they prove otherwise. They also turn over the ball 13 times per game on average, which is 176th in the NCAA.

Wiggins, Embiid and Ellis all post efficient offensive numbers. Selden even shoots .483 from the field. Ellis is only taking 8 shots a game and should have double-digit shot attempts for now on if they want to win. Even bring a guy like Conner Frankamp off the bench who can light it up from downtown to improve the lack of three-point efficiency.

They have had a tough schedule and all, but it doesn’t get any easier from here. They still have 7 games against teams ranked now and also play games against team that will be ranked at some point in the future like Georgetown and Oklahoma (x2)

How does he make his teammates better??In the past 4 games he has 1 assist and 11 turnovers, and had 4 against Florida. Is he a super franchise player that makes others better or a complimentary guy?

With that said i love that improved jump shot, and that defense is impressive for his age.But yes he also has to improve, especially his dribbling and passing off the dribble. But i feel this is just the next step for him, looking forward to see what he looks like in march.

The PG play at KU is terrible-Mason is not really a set up guard and Idk what happened to Tharpe, I didnt expect him to be an all conference player but he looks like his is the freshman, no control, focus or leadership. He needs to step it up from a leadership and control stand point if KU wants to be successful. Wayne S, looked lost againast FLA he played 14 mins and had 4 turns-self benched him for the last 16+ mins of the game. He started the 2nd half with back to back turns and just looked out of it. Greene is a shooter and so is Conner but their defense needs work. The last few games they really havent gone to Ellis on the block as they have focused on getting Joel A lot of post touches and working through him, not sure that is his strong point yet. Ellis/Wiggins need 10+ shots a game Joel/Seldon 6-8 each and everyone else from there fill in where you can. I would like to see White play a little more to see what he has, bc next yr you have Kelly O coming in to lets say ‘Start/Be the man on the wing" then you have Wayne who might come back if he doesnt show a lot more aggression with Greene /conner hopefully getting better. White might be the odd man out if he doesnt produce this year.

I have watched the last few game as well as the Duke Game and I havent seen wiggins or wayne really post up since the Duke game. They are big perimeter players and especially wiggins he is too quick/explosive in the post for most players. They might consider running a few post plays for them too or FT line and in isos 1/2 quick dribbles and your at the basket.

I think this shows how hard it is to incorperate 5 freshmen in a rotation early in the year. When we get into february and march Kansas should be better. John Calipari some how manages to do this every year and still wind up with good teams but that usually depends on the point guard. Kansas doesn’t seem to have one and Kentucky’s PG is struggling this year. Hopefully they fix that so we can see these teams reach their potential.

Frank Mason is as good of a freshman point guard defender that I can remember. He’s way ahead of most guys his age, and that’s why he’s on the court, but man…he forces the issue on drives too much and turns the ball over. That’s my biggest issue with Frank’s early season play. We knew coming in that he wasn’t a great outside shooter, but he needs to slow things down. He had 5 TO’s and 0 assists against Florida and as a starting point guard…thats just not acceptable.

Tharpe hasn’t been all that bad, but he’s not looking like the most experienced guard on the team. He has a 2.42 A/TO ratio, but he’s been far more quiet than many expected. He can actually shoot from the outside, which would help the zone, but he (for some reason, most high school guards can) cannot run a zone offense. He seems to always find himself trapped in the corner or he drives in too deep and passes on a shot he could make in favor of a difficult pass. Tharpe is a good passer with range ( also shaky shot selection ) but if KU hopes to bouce back, they need Nadiir to play like a Junior who’s been to a Final 4 instead of guy who looks lost when other teams aren’t playing man to man D.

Wayne Selden has showed some point ability, hit some nice outside jumpers, and clearly has size and strength, but he’s quiet, and his decision making hasn’t been all that good either. I think Wayne should stay another year and be a class of 2015 draft pick. Kelly Oubre is 6’7” and can play the 3, and Wayne will be able to improve a year and be a big time player that he has the potential to be. I just don’t think he’s there quite yet, but it’s early…a deep NCAA run with great play out of Selden could change his situation, but right now, I think he’d be smart to play two years.

       agreed with everything.

In my asseessment of the team the offense is horrible at moving the ball. Like many young players today they dont understande the concept of productive offense. You pass the the ball and move, its that simple. The kansas Jayhawks players dribble for a couble seconds with no movement then pass the ball then step away and it has been that this whole season with them. When you have this manyhigh level players from high school you would think they could put it together. Like in recent years some groups just cant mesh, especially when they never have been in a position in high school of having to mentally tough out so many games. Its foreign territory to these guys who think they can just charge at the rim and that works in college.

For me im giving frankamp and White a break. Self barely gives them enough time to get any rhythm on the court. If their only going to play 2-3 minutes how does he expect them to immediately jump in adjust to the flow of the game?

For me its Wiggins, Embied, and ellis, all these guys need to step up consistently. Everybody else needs to fall in line behind them.I wish Self or the players would please tell Embied to stop posting up 12 ft from the hoop! Run to the rim slide around the guy and seal him!
