Wanted to get opinions on the young Sacramento team. The trade of Demarcus signaled they were ready to buy into another rebuild. With Fox, Heild, Skal, Bogdan, and a handful of vets, this team seems to finally be rebuilding the right way.

In the summer of 2018 the Kings will have 82,310,912 in salary. 30,000,000 of that is tied up in George Hill & Zach Randolph. My hope is that we’re able to trade Hill before the final year of his contract so we have more cap flexibility during FA in 2019.

In the summer of 2019 the Kings will only have 53,612,324 in guranteed salary. That number doesnt include their 2018 first round draft pick that will likely cost around 5,500,00-7,500,000 a year. Willie will also be a RFA, but I’m hopeful they’ll be able to resign him to a contract around 13,000,000 a year. They will still have plenty of cap space regardless with the cap projected around 108,000,000.

Assuming their pick is top 5 they’ll have a chance at Porter Jr, Bagley III, Ayton, Doncic, and Bamba. As a Kings fan this is who I hope we’re targeting Ayton. We are thin at the 3, but Ayton has a chance to be a game changing force on the inside while still having a rounded play-style that fits the modern NBA. Porter Jr is another target and is going to be a great scorer, but I feel he’s better suited for Atlanta or Chicago.

The Kings owe their 2019 first rounder to either the Celtics or Sixers, so they’ll be trying to put themselves in a position to win during the 2018-2019 season. With continued development from the young guys and another good young player in the 2018 draft, this team could really turn the corner with a splash during free agency. A lot of teams misread the CAP situation and will have money still tied up in bad contracts giving the Kings a chance to pry some solid free agents if they can buy into the new look roster. Their thinnest position is at the wing/forward position. Some free agents I expect the Kings to take a look at are:

    Summer of 2018

    – Jabari Parker:  If he can stay healthy, he’s a consistent 20-point threat from the 3/4 position. If he underachieves in his return from injury, the playoff bound bucks might not be willing to match an 18,000,000 a year offer.

    – Julius Randle: Much improved defender, who has come a long way with his playmaking. Still isn’t a rim protector or outside shooter, but his skills mesh nicely with the Kings roster.

    – Robert Covington: Great 3&D wing, if the Sixers aren’t willing to pay him the Kings may be able to convince him with more money and playing time

     Summer of 2019

    – Tobias Harris: Has improved every year in the league and has a good head on his shoulders. Fits in with the new Kings culture perfectly.

    – Khris Middleton (Player Option): An analytics star, he is a great complementary wing defender and shooter. It’ll be hard to get him from MIL, but if the Bucks resign parker it’s hard to see how they’ll be bale to afford Middleton.

What are some other free agents the Kings should look at if:

    1) They draft a wing in Porter Jr or Doncic?

    or

    2) They draft a big in Ayton, Bagley, or Bamba?
