RUDEBOY_Participanti dont know about best player in the world..but he’s among the top 5 candidates for mvp..his (pie) rating is 22.7…
alot of people had questions and were worried about how successful the thunder could be if westbrook became their number 1 option..but so far since his return from injuries and kd slowly working himself into form.westbrook has become their go to guy, they’re 8-1 in their last 9 gms,on a 6 gm winning streak and 1 game out of the 8th seed…
he’s shooting a career high 49%fg,he’s attempting fewer 3s and his percentage have went up to 35% compared to 31% last yr….

phila9012ParticipantHe did play the best basketball of his career in the playoffs last year getting 27ppg, 8apg, 7rpg, and 2spg. He had 3 triple doubles. He only shot 42% but that was because all they had was durant to take the focus off of him. He is playing at his highest level yet. He is the heart of the thunder. His intensity sets the tone for everyone else. I dont know if he is the best player right now, but he is playing like one of the top 5 players in the NBA.

dcaseParticipantI’m a huge Westbrook fan and think he gets criticized far too much. He is playing at an unbelievable level since coming back from his injury and as RUDEBOY suggested should be among the 5 candidates for MVP. With that being said, he is not the best player in the world right now. Too often fans have knee jerk reactions and make statements based on a small sample of games. Someone might be one of the hottest players and play out of their mind for a 1-2 week period, but it takes much more than that to vault someone to the BEST PLAYER in the world title.

lalailaParticipantidk about the statement, but as far as the best NBA player early in this season, YES it’s him or Brow.
33 PER he avg 26 6 8 in 29minute!!! it’s liek 32/ 7 / 8 in per 36 that’s simply sick. and add to that OKC are 7-1 since he back.
and if you think he wouldn’t keep up this production remember last year, played only like half regular season with 30mpg averaged 22/6/7 this translated into 27/7/8 for the playoffs..
He is just one hundry player, alpha dog.
And after all that you even can say this guy is pretty efficient shooter probably for the first time in his career
yikes

dcaseParticipantBest NBA player early in this season…Westbrook or the Brow? Are those the only two or can others be considered? Yes 26/7/6 while helping his team go 7-1 since returning is extremely impressive. But what about 24/7/5 with slightly better shooting %’s all while leading a team to a 21-2 record for the entire season (not just an 8 game snap shot)? I think that would qualify for best NBA player thus far this season. This is coming from a guy that likes Westbrook more than Curry.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantHe’s been beasting on a team that has no other major offensive threats until a few games ago. His usage rate is through the roof. Put any superstar in a similiar situation and the numbers would be the same. This is what they get paid big money for. He is a top player in the world, but to suggest he is the best in the world because he is putting up crazy stats on a relatively empty team offensively, is illogical.

B-ball fanParticipantWestbrook isn’t just ridiculously productive, he is really efficient. His TS% is 59.7 for the season. And he has a usage rate of 39.2%, which is ridiculous regardless of context.
And the Thunder are 7-3 with him on the season, despite KD being limited or not playing at all in those losses.
I think Westbrook’s stats are due for some regression to the mean, but right now he definitely is in contention for the title of best player in the world. James Harden also deserves consideration, as does Steph Curry, but nobody is as dominant as Russ right now.

BiggaveliiiParticipantHis motor is on another level. This type of motor wins championships. Hes turbocharged he makes his team play harder. At the end of the day you want your best players attitude like his. Hes not the best point guard but hes the best guard.

ballislyfe25ParticipantHis physical gifts, intangibles, and basketball skills are all-world. He brings it each and every night and is absolutely fearless. He is an unstoppable scorer, willing defender, and has that killer instinct everyone looks for in a star player. Top 5 player in the league, at the worst.
However, I would like to see him playing for a better coach in an actual system. Scott Brooks is hindering Westbrook’s growth from a basketball IQ standpoint. Many of the Thunder’s possessions in the half-court end with Russell or Kevin Durant in ISO, which is fine being that they are two of the top 5 players in the league. But I do not think they are neccesarily put in position to get the most effective or efficient shots due to the offense schemes, or lack thereof. I’d like to see Russell play off the ball more in half-court sets, take less "long 2s", and develop a post game to use his physical gifts and natural scoring instincts.
Eric Bledsoe has been referred to as "mini-LeBron" but Russell is the LeBron of guards. I think in a perfect world, or just with the right coach, Russell’s game will take a step forward, much like LeBron once he landed with Miami. It’s scary that there is room for improvement with this guy.
