Final score: Thunder win easy over Magic, 88-77.

Guard Russell Westbrook, another ’08 first-rounder who averaged 15.3 points as a rookie, also had eight points and four assists in the first half.
Guard Russell Westbrook led the way with 22 points and 9 assists, with a strong 16-for-18 effort on free throws. Rookie guard James Harden had 17 off the bench, going 6-for-9 from the field and hitting two of three 3-point attempts.

Stats are good, but it is Summer League. A guy named Donte Greene dominated last year in Summer League, but struggled during the season as well as Jerryd Bayless although neither were given a shot, but Russell has already proved himself. I like the fact that he went to the line 18 times, shows he is being aggressive and using his strengths instead of his weaknesses like shooting Jumpshots. Also the 9 assist shows he was setting up him teammates. Not bad for Harden’s first game against some NBA Level Talent. Good percentage from the field.

yeah dude, it’s summer league. Friggin Adam Morrison was dominating in summer league, and now what? Russell is a really good player, but all star is an overstatement

on what planet is going 3-11 from the field w/4 turnovers in 33 mins an all-star performance against a team w/only 1 player (ryan anderson) who played decent mins in the league last year??????????

Look Russell is never going to shoot a great % from the field. His ability to get 22 pts on 11 shots shows that he’s capable of overcoming the most glaring weakness in his game. He did it last year, and he’ll do it again.

I used to really hate the DWade comparisons, but I’m starting to see it more and more. DWade is CLEARLY on a different level and this was summer league, but Russell has proven himself in the NBA and has that same extraordinary knack for getting to the line (not to mention out-of-this-world quickness and athleticism) that reminds me some of DWade.

The next step (towards becoming DWade) for Russell is to finish despite the foul and get to the line for one shot instead of two… If he’d have done that three times the line would have been: 6-14 FG, 13-15 FT for 25 pts. That’s the difference between being great and a promising rookie. You can live with 43% (6-14) shooting, 27%, on the other hand, I’ll agree is not going to cut it next year

I think people dont take into account who is he playing with. Numbers don’t meant much unless you can interpret them correctly. Harden can get his points in the flow of the game and play with big time scorers and still produce. That is big. He will be able to be a beast next to Durant and Westbrook because he will blend in and punish team when the double. Westbrook is a slasher and he has shown that he will go strong to the hole. This will open up the game for perimeter players like Harden, Durant and now Gerald Green. If he gets stronger he can put up Wade like numbers maybe. Wade was not a good shooter coming in to the NBA but he was older and could finish a lot better than Westbrook. Wade just now started hitting 3’s at a decent clip.

I like what Tyler has shone, If he can put put number similiar in the regular season, he will be a solid player. I figured if he did well he would be those hustle types but it seems he is trying to bring a more well roundness to his game. Brandon Rush seem to have a off shooting game but he needs to keep shootings and stay confident.
