The Chicago Bulls. I know there aren’t a lot of Gay fans on here, but hear me out.

The Bulls need, and reportedly are looking for, offense. I know they’re talking about the ‘Melo route, and he is unquestionably the better player, but could Gay be the better fit?

There is something about watching Anthony play that I’m not a fan of. I don’t know if it’s the indifferent look on his face for most of the game or what. I think, even though he’s not as talented, Gay is the better fit.

Gay seems to be more of a team player than he gets credit for. . . or at least that’s the vibe I got from watching him this season. He is solid defensively and I think he could be even better on that team. He could fill the main scoring void if Rose is out, and be able to play well with him when he is there. I would worry a bit about the chemistry of the team with Carmelo. I don’t know if he could integrate into the way Chicago does things, as well as Gay could.

I’m not sure if he will opt out of his contract, but if he’s interested in joinging a contender this would be a perfect match I think.

Rudy Gay is like a poor man’s Carmelo so he’d be a great alternative if the Bulls can’t get him.

I wouldn’t having Rudy be the consolation prize if Melo cannot be had.  He’d be a good scoring option next to Rose.  He is much better suited to be the 2nd option on a championship team than the #1 option on a bad team.  But only if he doesn’t require max money.  He has a player option of 19.3 million this coming year.  if he is willing to take a pay cut (maybe 12-15 million) I’d be very interested.  Never know if a player is just out for the money.

If he takes this kind of pay cut, I think at least maybe 20 teams would be interested…

Yup, that’s right.  But I just don’t want another Carlor Boozer albatross contract!  The Bulls will have some options out there.  No need to give Rudy Gay max money.

no way he takes a pay cut. he is owed 19 mill. His market value would be aorund 12 mill i think. It’s easy for fans sitting on the internet to say thats a reasonable pay cut, but reality is there are very few if any guys willing to loose that much in order to win.

If I’m not mistaken Andre Iguodala was faced with a similar situation last offseason and he elected to opt out of the last year of his contract in Denver, which was set to pay him slightly over $16 million, to sign a 4yr-$48 million deal with the Warriors. So he sacrificed some immediate salary for long term stability and a choice to control his own destiny as a unrestricted free agent. And considering how well he fit in in Oakland I’d say it worked out for him. Maybe Gay goes along the same route. He’d be great in Chicago, but I doubt they’d move heaven & earth to acquire him, which is what’d it take to avoid the luxury tax. They’re better off hoping they can grab a wing scorer in the draft if they strike out on Love & Melo.

If he played better team ball I’d love him in Washington. Upgrade from Ariza but that starting 5 (wall, beal, gay, nene, gortat) would be scary.

I don’t ever see this happening but it would be cool.

No I wouldn’t say Gay is a better fit than Carmelo.  But as a Bulls fan, I’d be happy with Gay as well.  He just isn’t as dynamic as a scorer, obviously.  The Bulls need as much offense as they can get.  I’d rather have Anthony.
