Who would you rather have as the Wolves future PG, Rubio or Kyrie Irving?

Lotto StudParticipantKahn will eventually give up on him once the Lotto takes place IF he has a shot at Kyrie. If I was Kahn I would trade Rubio a** before the pick went up to the podium, that would be announced before the Kyrie pick.

ghettosermonParticipantIf he really is serious about playing for the Twolves than the smarter basketball move would be to draft Derrick Williams or Harrison Barnes if available, but then again if Rubio is just blowing smoke to gain leverage might as well trade him and draft a PG you know will play for you day 1 and doesn’t pull a JCN and bolt back for Europe once things get hard. Ideally the Twolves would have Rubio play for them and have Derrick Williams or another top player, but it’s fairly risky. PG is a huge problem for Minnesota so passing on Kyrie would be awfully difficult to do when there is so much uncertainty with Rubio’s situation and that doesn’t even consider yet how he will translate to the pro’s.

BKKnicksfanParticipantThe bigger question is what’s Rubio’s value?

WolvesFutureParticipantI won’t believe it until he’s here, but all we keep hearing here in the TC is that he’s coming, the Wolves front office has told him at the very worst there will be a half season. From what I’ve heard in the local media and through one of my boys with the Wolves org is that he’s okay with that. Recently there has been a Radio/TV Wolves marketing campaign that says "Expect more Rubio sightings". IDK, I want to know more of Kyrie, I didn’t get a chance to watch any of his earlier games, I heard he’s not very athletic, something that worries me with the recent flux of extremely athletic PGs in the NBA today. I’ve heard he’s got good range though, I saw his shooting % are off the charts. They have one established starter (Love) so I’m sure they won’t be hesitant to take Williams, Perry Jones, or Barnes, but in having Love as their PF I’m sure they’ll stay away from Kanter, Love needs athletes around him in the frontcourt.

bennydabullParticipantAre the Timberwolves not confident in Beasley as their 3man? They also have Randolph who can slide in at 3 or 4 off the bench. But you never know what you’ll get from him.
Its unfortunate there aren’t any big athletic centers in this years draft… should’ve taken Cousins when they had the chance.

thunderbear82ParticipantI’ve watched Irving play serval times he is a very good athlete, with a very smooth confident game. He is a natural PG with great natural leadership qualities.

RubioTuesdays01Participantrubio has a lot of value. mark cuban for one said hed love to have rubio on his team. he was a top 5 pick, and is still younger than some of these guys coming out of school. hes also been a pro since he was 14. not saying hes going to be good, but until he plays here and sucks..his value will be high. if kyrie irving is available when the wolves draft. you have to take him. if this cba goes to the wire (june 30th) im guessing that would be after the draft so we might not even know if rubio is coming over by draft night. all of this is just speculation considering we’re not sure whos opting for the draft and who isnt. id love a guy like barnes or williams, but pg is the biggest need for the twolves for sure. and as for beasley. we do like him at the 3 offensively, but hes struggled against a lot of quicker 3s. hes been more productive when we can put him at the 4 against a smaller lineup. it looks like the wolves are going to have 2 first round picks so picking up a center would be my next choice. And all this movement is disregarding rubio coming over, our 14 mil trade exception for al jefferson, and signing a mid level fa. so good outlook for us next year, but it is going to take some work

sheltwon3ParticipantIf wolves get the number one overall pick and Irving is in the draft they should trade Rubio before the playoffs are over. The hard thing would be who would they look to get back in the trade.

M-DYMESParticipant"If wolves get the number one overall pick"
Haha that’ll be the day.

the27guyParticipantLets say the Jazz land the #1 overall pick with the pick they received from the Nets (7% chance). They offer the #1 pick, and Raja Bell (who the TWolves were reported to have serious interest in at the TD) to the Wolves for Ricky Rubio and Wesley Johnson… Who says no?
If you’re the Wolves, you get a guy who has zero risk of just deciding to play in Europe, and perhaps the only candidate for Super-stardom is this league. You also get a veteran to teach the young guys what it means to be a professional. And if you’re Khan, you sell it to your fan base by saying, "hey, look, I know I said Ricky was coming, but look who we got instead!"
If you’re Utah you get the #4 overall pick last year who happens to fit their biggest need, and if Rubio comes over, you get a guy who may (or may not) be your franchise PG.

RubioTuesdays01Participanti’m not sure i like that idea. it seems good in theory, but we have a shot at the number one pick anyways. or at least number 2. if we could get devin harris or someone else in the deal then possibly. but right now were looking at two first rounders. i say you can package the 2nd one and beasley, darko, ridnour, flynn..one of those guys in a deal to move up in the draft if youd like. but to be good you cant have so many young guys on the team. also im not ready to give up on wes. with a pg that can get him the ball i think hell be a good player in the nba. hes already miles ahead of where corey brewer is even to this day. take the best overall player you can get with our pick and then try and add some veteran help. i.e. kaman, camby, dalembert. something like that to help our interior d. if we don’t have to give up rubio i say we give him a shot. with all this hype it would be a bad trade to just get rid of him and have him end up being good.
